She had been summoned for another duel! Just great. That wasn't even entirely a sarcastic 'just great', because Kalama really did enjoy duels. But she preferred dueling other firekin, rather than rogues. Firekin were well trained warrior, while she honestly had no idea what sort of skills some of the hopeful rogues that came about had. What if they had learned how to fight, from... well, fish, or something ridiculous like that?

She couldn't know! Yet, here she was, prepared to duel some other lion. Apparently it was a male this time, but she hardly ever bothered to remember her opponent's names. For once, it seemed Kalama had arrived first. She shrugged, sat down, and waited.

User Image Cyprinnus had finally made it to a new pride, but the entrance fee was a fight! He made his way to the battle grounds and was told to find a red lioness named Kalama. The only other lion besides himself was in fact, a fiery-coated female. "Are you Kalama? I'm Cyprinnus. I'm here to fight!"

His muscles tensed and he bided, waiting for her to attack.

An amusing enough introduction. Of course he was here to fight! She knew that! she might have made a verbal jab at him, but instead simply threw herself at the other lion, intent on getting this little fight over with.

In retrospect, it was probably good that Kalama hadn't mocked him. She might look rather silly otherwise.

Cyprinnus lept backwards from the lioness' attack, her heavy paws missing him. He was filled with a nervous energy as he went to return the assault with one of his own. However, his momentum was all from having dodged Kamala's attack, so when he attempted one of his own, it missed as well.

This wasn't going too great. He swished his tail as he circled the lioness, nervous and anxious to prove himself to the pride.

She was irritated by her miss, as well as his own, particularly because she hadn't even attempted to dodge that one. Duels shouldn't start this badly, honestly. They should be showing a hopeful rogue's skills, or a firekin chasing off this hopeful rogue for being inadequate. She lashed her tail irritably, and charged at him again, intending for a tackle.

The lion furrowed his brows and ducked to the side, a nimble maneuver that saved him from being tackled. He was leaner than the firekin, not only because of his blood heritage but also his time spent in the desert that probably cost him a few pounds.

Well, so far she hadn't landed a hit. Maybe things were going well? He tried not to get cocky- he couldn't really afford to, after all- and he went in for an attack, a well-aimed paw-swipe that would ideally land right on her face.

She slipped away from the attack with an irritated expression, as if he were just a fly tickling her ear. If Kalama had a list of duels she liked, this wouldn't be on that list. she hated this duel, it was stupid. Very stupid. She was, in fact, so irritated, she didn't even try to attack him this time around. Instead, she moved away a couple paces, and shot a glance at him.

"Come on. Can't you do better than that?" It wasn't really a taunt. Kalama was actually irritated.

He scowled. A miss! He blew air through his nose loudly. He thought better than to snap back, he didn't want to make a real enemy before he even was accepted into the pride. Instead, he stretched, his eyes locked onto Kalama and took in a deep breath. "I'm just warming up!" He was mildly confused by the lack of attack and instead of going on the offensive, waited to see what would come of it.

It seemed like this duel was going nowhere fast, but he wasn't the trained fighter, here, so he felt the Firekin was probably up to no good.

One thing about Kalama was that she was stubborn. She had decided this male should do something, not her. And he was just standing there. She set her jaw and laid her ears back, shooting him a glare. He was wasting her time! Kalama didn't like having her time wasted.

"If you're not going to do anything, leave now and stop wasting my time." She snorted, and briefly turned her gaze away, honestly considering just leaving.

Cyprinnus growled and lept forward more as a response than as a calculated move. His claws extended and his mouth open to bite anything, he was on the attack! He wasn't going to leave, not just yet. He'd just gotten there! His desire to prove himself was renewed again and so was his fighting spirit. He really needed to land a blow here if the duel was ever going to end.

She remembered that the fight wasn't over a bit too late, and by the time she turned jaws had clamped down on her shoulder. Kalama snarled and wrenched away, which probably wasn't the best idea. The result was, of course, pain, and a bit of blood. His claws had also managed to make a few scratches on her rump.

She was a soldier, and was hardly upset about the pain. What irritated Kalama most was that this meant she had lost. Not to mention... He used his teeth. It hadn't been polite. The fur on the back of her neck prickled, and she bared her teeth, a deep growl rumbling in her throat. For a few moments, it looked like the red cat was intent on chasing Cyprinnus away.

But there never had really been a rule about no biting. And even though Kalama could hardly be considered an honest lioness, there was no benefit in lying. If such a dishonesty were discovered, she would certainly be punished. "You won." She rumbled, ears laying back. She would not congratulate him, however. Instead, she simply turned and walked away.

Though Kalama wrenched away, it seemed he had landed some pretty good hits. He didn't relish the taste of blood in his mouth, but for the sake of the fight and his entrance to the pride, the ends justified the means. He was still tense as her body language was rigid and fierce. His ears laid back on his head but he was still on the offensive.

Well, until she said he won.

He won!? His shoulders went slack with surprise. He thought of what to say, but didn't think that a "thank you" would sit very well for a prideful Firekin. He watched as she walked off, and slowly, as she did, a smile crept across his face.

He won!

the end
