Christian was taking a walk through a meadow in the middle of the woods, a gentle breeze tousling his black mane. To the left of him was a crystal blue lake that had a few lily pads floating around. He could hear the birds chirping in the trees surrounding him and it put the red stallion in a very good mood. He walked closer to the lake and bowed his head, until his muzzle was touching the cool refreshing water. Then he started to lap up some of the water, that tasted so good and pure. He spent the next few minutes drinking, not thinking that there would be any trouble. After all, it was quiet in the woods, he couldn't see what could possibly happen.

Morcalma fluttered through the meadow, being at that point small enough to stand on a flower. Feeling pre-spring wanderlust, especially with the first birds and flowers around, she had left the safe jungles of the Dreamer's Glass herd for the day.
Looking ahead, she glimpsed a gorgeous pool and smiled. While she had to be very careful about bathing to not get her wings wet, she did like a nice, cool drink of pure, fresh water. However, so excited was she by the beauty of the pool that she barely noticed the red-and-black stallion already drinking from the pool.
Reaching the bank, she changed back to her full size, Arion and Lyra wings flaring, phoenix tail feathers floating back like the train of a princess' gown. Her head was already swiftly descending toward the water, bright purple eyes closing in anticipation of the cool, sweet taste of the pure water.

Christian finished his own drink of water and he looked up just in time to see a mare with butterfly wings just seem to grow out of the ground. He let out a whinny of surprise, wondering where she had come from, having not heard anything that would have alerted him to her presence. He figured she must have been quiet or he just had been too lost in thought to see her come up to get a drink from the pond. The thought had not occurred to him that she had been too small for him to notice when she arrived and had just regained her normal size had never even occurred to him.
After the initial shock had worn off, Christian looked at the mare with admiration in his blue eyes. He loved how the sun seemed to gleam off her delicate wings, seeming to make it look like they had a glow about them. He loved how her purple hair seemed to remind him of a gentle night sky and the bow in her hair made her look so peaceful. He smiled as he saw her tail, thinking how graceful it was.
"He...Hello,"he managed to say, though it came out barely above a whisper.

Morcalma looked up at the sound of the whinny, surprised. Looking up, she saw a fairly handsome young stallion, dark, smoky hues with what appeared to be a swarm of fireflies around his neck. Morcalma had yet to see glowing markings, especially ones so delicate.
Before she realized what she was doing, she was stepping closer to him, fluttering her wings enough so that her feet happened to move across the water in such a way as to appear to be walking on water. His greeting caught her short, and she halted, wings fluttering, suddenly shy. "Hello, good sir," she said shyly, still fascinated by the firefly markings against the warm, smoky coat...until she let her violet eyes drift up to meet the loveliest sky-blue eyes from which dripped shadows.
"How do you do," she said, almost breathlessly.

Christian watched her seem to glide across the water as she came his way and he felt suddenly weak in the knees. As she drew closer he looked at the eyes that matched her hair and seemed to get lost in them for a moment. Then he heard her sweet voice greet him and she had to clear his throat. Her tried to remind himself that it was only polite for him to reply back and to do that, he had to calm down. He took a deep breath and tried to look over her head a little, so he wasn't mesmerized by her eyes.
"I am doing quite well today, miss, I do hope the same holds true for you. I must admit, I did not even hear your presence. You almost seemed to appear like a dream,"Christian smiled, trying to keep his voice steady. He thought to himself he was doing a good job and hoped that he wouldn't say anything or do anything stupid.

Morcalma had to laugh. He seemed a nice one, if unfamiliar with Arions. She hadn't arrived that suddenly or magically, though there was almost no sound associated with an Arion growing or shrinking, aside from a very soft whisper of air in motion.
"Forgive me for laughing. I am part Arion, so I grow and shrink at will, to the size of a butterfly and back. I'm afraid there was no magic." Swallowing the little laugh, but still smiling warmly, she continued. "I am quite fine, thank you. If it's not too rude to ask, how did you persuade a swarm of fireflies to float about your neck? It's quite a magical effect itself," she added admiringly.

Christian looked down and pawed at the ground with his front hoof in embarrassment. He mentally chided himself, he should have thought about how she could be a different kind of Star, one that naturally could shrink and grow. That would certainly explain why he had not heard her presence before and didn't see her until she made herself known. When she asked him about the fireflies around his neck, he managed to pick his head up and smile softly.
"Well, I guess these little ones like the way I can sing, so they stay to hear me do so. Plus, I try to make sure they are protected from the elements and predators, so I guess I am kind of like their protector,"Christian replied. He loved the little fireflies who were always with him, they always were more than happy to light his way for him.

Morcalma smiled some more and stepped closer, extending a delicate muzzle to nose at the fireflies around his neck, and let out an amused giggle at the way he half-joked about why the fireflies liked him so much. The way the stayed around hi, and the pride with which he explained how he protected him...her heart warmed a bit at the stallion's kindness and strength, that he could protect so many creatures that were so small and beautiful.
Another thought occurred to her. "Are you out here alone with your fireflies? Do you have a herd or a family or something?" Having grown up in a loving family and a kindly herd, she could barely imagine not living in the company of other Stars.

Christian stood as still as he could when Morcalma came near and examined his firefly friends. He couldn't help but think how beautiful she was and how sweet smelling she was. His ears perked as he heard her giggle and thought how musical it sounded, which made a smile come to his lips. The smile faded quickly, however, when she asked him if he had a herd or family.
"I am afraid that I am out here all by myself, except for my little friends here. I know I have a loving family out there somewhere, but when I was little, I was separated from them. I tried to search for them, but I suppose I just managed to get myself lost even further. I haven't seen them since that fateful day, so I am not sure what happened to them. I can only hope they are safe and that I will get to meet them again some day,"Christian answered.

His story gripped Morcalma's heart. He was all alone? He'd been alone since he was a foal? That was horrible! How could anyone live alone like that for so long?
"That's terrible! You must've been so lonely without your family." It made Morcalma glad that she still had her family, even though she was still sad for the handsome stallion with his firefly friends. For all the ways she didn't always get along with her sister, Suli Lhach, or even all the ways that her parents were so busy with the affairs of the herd...she couldn't really imagine a world without them.

Christian looked over and could see his story had saddened the mare and he looked to the ground and gently pawed at it. He had to admit, at least to himself, there were nights he would look up into the starlit sky and feel very lonely. He would think of his family and wonder if they even missed him and reasoned they probably did. He picked up head up and looked at Morcalma, trying to think of what to tell the other.
"Yes, it can be very lonely sometimes, but I have learned to survive. It would be nice to be surrounded by a loving family, but I cannot allow sadness to bring me down. I try to look on the bright side of things, such as how I got to meet you tonight,"Christian spoke with a soft smile.

Morcalma tilted her head. Well, if he said it was all right, then it must be, but it still didn't sit quite properly with her. If he was lonely...that could be fixed, right? From what she understood of the rules of her native herd, anyone was welcome there, provided they were willing to obey the rules and suchlike, so he could be invited and integrated into the herd, couldn't he?
With growing certainty that this was a viable option that she began to, in her heart of hearts, want very much, she said softly, "You could come with me to join the herd my family's a part of. You wouldn't be alone anymore, and you could even start your own family," she added, slightly blushing at his pretty compliment about meeting her.

Christian's eyes widened in surprise when he heard what the mare had just suggested. Was it possible that he could actually have a herd to call home and Stars to be around? When she mentioned starting a family of his own, he blushed, looking into those eyes of her's once more. He felt like a future was actually beckoning to him, telling him to take the mare's offer.
"I have often dreamed of starting a family of my own with a pretty mare one day. If you think your herd would not mind, then I would gladly like to accept your invitation. Even though I have learned how to be by myself, it would be nice to be with others. Thank you, you have no idea how happy you have made me tonight,"Christian replied with a bright smile. He felt so alive in that moment and he couldn't believe his luck.
