Jett had received Candice’s text with a certain amount of trepidation. He agreed, of course, because he wasn’t going to let anyone down (and liked being able to hold it over someone’s head that they owed him for ‘that time when…’) though wasn’t completely thrilled with the prospect of being around someone infected with any sort of disease. Raven was ill, and he’d risked his life to visit her, and now, here he was, pulling into Candice’s driveway, risking his life again?

This was preposterous.

His nose was entirely congested, and no matter how many vitamins or orange juice he ingested, nothing he did was helping this cold go away. He’d pestered a woman at the supermarket and she’d chastised him for overreacting (which only made him overreact more) though, ultimately, left empty handed. She had expected him to sit down and ride this one out and to see a doctor if it got any worse, but that wasn’t enough for Jett.

A part of him hoped that he would contract some deadly disease just so he could go rub it in her face that this was all her fault though, at the same time, he valued his own well being far more than any sort of bragging rights that would give him.

He blew his nose once before climbing out of the car—and shortly after disinfected his hands, as had since become a tradition. He wriggled his fingers and flicked his wrist to help dry the antibiotic fluid before he closed the door of his car with his hip and eyed the apartment.

He had never been to Candice’s place before and only knew this must be hers given that it was the address she had provided through text messages. Jett strutted from his car, rubbing his hands together to keep them warm, and snaked his way towards the door. He managed to slip in after a woman stepping out, so didn't even have to bother about buzzing in. Making his way upstairs, he searched for the room number Candice had supplied and knocked—loudly, though not menacingly.

Candice was pretty much knocked out on her bed; ever since she had gotten sick, she really hadn't done much. She would get up, eat, feed Cotton, bathe, sleep, try and play with Cotton while eating before passing out again... There wasn't really much she could do with her immune system being so low.

Cotton on the other hand, had been a very understanding puppy. There would be times where she'd play ball with herself, running around the apartment, sliding around on the floor. Other times, she would be besides Candice, resting and nuzzling Candice, hoping that she'd feel better soon.

The little puppy had been cuddling with Candice until she heard the knock on the door. Cotton let out a small bark as she tried to lick Candice awake. Reluctantly, Candice opened her eyes and smiled at Cotton. "Okay... Okay I'm awake..." Slowly, Candice lifted up her body and uncovered the blankets. Cotton on the other hand hopped on the floor, running around and eventually scratching at the door. "Hey... Stop that, Cotton! You might ruin the door!"

Candice opened the door and smiled weakly at the person she saw. "Hey Jett! I'm so sorry for asking you to drive out here... Please, come in!"

Cotton pawed at Jett and tugged at his pants as Candice was greeting him. Candice managed to laugh just slightly at the puppy. "I'm sorry... Cotton is the main reason I asked you to come here today... He needs a playmate... And possibly a walk?"

The scratching the door had briefly made Jett wonder if Candice was, in some way, being eaten alive inside her apartment, however there was a great amount of relief when he realized it was just the little puffball he’d already met before. Not that he appreciated being pawed at and having his pants tugged at, but it was better than trying to comfort Candice was being devoured.

Careful not to step on Cotton as he stepped into the apartment, Jett nudged the dog with his foot. It wasn’t a rude or violent action, just a little playful poke. “Playmate and a walk?” he prompted, though he’d heard Candice just fine. “…Sounds feasible. Is this just today we’re talking about?” the male inquired, looking up from Cotton to speak to Candice. Jett wasn’t often one to soften the truth unless it got him somewhere, and right now he wasn’t feeling well enough to avoid bluntness. “…You look absolutely awful, Candice, are you sure you shouldn’t be in a hospital or something?”

Cotton had been running around, but the nudge from Jett made her calm down a little. She was still very much excited, but followed Candice back to a chair and plopped down next to the chair. Cotton was still very much excited to have Jett over as company, but this time would only come over if Jett signaled for her.

Oddly enough, the puppy was staring up at Jett, wagging her tail and waiting.

Candice saw this and laughed in between some coughs. She tried to cover her germs and touch as little as she could as Jett was still around. "Well, today would be nice. I'm not sure how much longer that this horrible cold will be around, but yeah! You're free to spend as much time as you want or can with Cotton. She loves any attention she can get!"

Cotton let out a small bark as she heard her name mentioned and continued wagging her tail.

When Jett sounded really worried about her, Candice just smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry about it... It's just a cold! It's lasting more than I really want it to, but I don't feel like I'm completely useless." She motioned to the room around her with one of her hands. "I've been managing to keep this place clean as well as taking care of both myself and Cotton."

Looking around the room, it was easy to tell that Candice kept it relatively clean, minus some parts where Cotton was playing by herself with toys. There were still some dishes that needed to be done, but Candice always pushed herself out of the bed to try and keep the place tidy.

Though Jett put on a good front, the concept of Candice’s germs crawling on him sent a shiver down his spine. Ordinarily, his cocky nature would have had him brush off her illness, though the fact that some bug had managed to crawl its way into his system made him a little overcautious.

He stared down at Cotton, slightly amused that the dog would be so pleased to have visitors (particularly ones such as him) though managed to crack a small smile at her. “…Yeah, I’m pretty impressed with how well this place looks. You probably could lay off on the cleaning a bit in favor of bed rest. I’ll look after Cotton, I guess. Kinda meant to stop by and get some fast food, and there’s a park just down the road. I can snag her, grab some food, and then take her for a walk and drop her back off, that work? I mean. I don’t have a lot of experience walking dogs, but—what, you hook a leash on them and walk, make sure they stay out of the road, let them do their business and then run away before anybody sees it was your dog, right?”

A part of Jett was quite pleased with the concept of having a dog to look after; the child in him wanted an excuse to go run around with a dog. It was as close as he could get to having a real dog, and all things considered, he hardly even thought of walking and playing with Cotton as being some sort of chore.

Candice covered her mouth as she smiled. It was bad of her to know she was sick and invite Jett over, but... Maybe she should just kick him out soon so he could bring Cotton on her walk and well, not get contaminated by her. She kept her mouth covered as she spoke, careful not to get Jett sick. Candice shook her head, however, about the not cleaning thing. "I-I can't not clean! Not cleaning would lead to the germs to be around which would lead to.. Well, never getting better!"

She frowned just slightly, but was glad that Jett couldn't see it. Candice was glad that Jett was able to work out something into his schedule though. Standing up again, she picked up Cotton's leash that was hanging near the door. The puppy, knowing what the item meant, leapt up and ran towards the door. "I promise you she's easy to walk." Candice bent over and gave the puppy a pat on the head, getting a lick on her palm as a response. "She's well trained, at least in that aspect!"

"Thank you, so much, Jett." Candice was still covering her mouth, but the tone of voice she had was warm and appreciative. "If anything, I can try and make some quick and easy to hold food for you? It would be the least I can do." She wasn't sure how much stuff she had left, but Candice knew that on her walks with Cotton, she could pick up more stuff to make sandwiches or some sort of Mexican food.

Jett watched the exchange between Candice and her dog with a thoughtful expression. He was not necessarily moved by the display or affection Cotton was showing her owner, but it served to remind him how fond he was of dogs. Even if Candice was a plague-ridden fiend, Cotton still seemed happy enough just to prance around her.

He resisted a sigh; he still wanted a dog. And apparently was willing to risk contamination for an excuse to just take Cotton for a walk. "Nah, don't worry about getting me anything," he insisted, half because he had a hankering for a nice, fresh burger, and half because he was afraid of ingesting anything related to Candice. Sure, she wasn't dead yet, but he wasn't going to trust her to prepare anything for him. He waited for the leash, not wanting to rush anything. "I'll just take her around for a bit. You want me to grab you anything while I'm out? Happy Meal, chicken sandwich—curry?" he prompted. He still hadn't forgotten the curry she'd shared with him, and he'd gotten a little more than acquainted with a certain ethnic shop that provided him with all the curry he wanted for a rather small expense.

Candice carefully got herself to her knees and allowed Cotton to place her front paws on her legs. Cotton gave Candice a lick on the cheek while she got the leash onto the dog. Standing up again, Cotton followed closely by her side. "There, she's all ready to go!"

She was careful not to touch too many parts of the leash, in fear of spreading the germs, but held it at a spot where it would be easy for Jett to grab the handle. Candice felt bad that she wasn't able to offer any food, but maybe there was something else? She rustled through her purse and eventually found a twenty dollar bill.

"If I can't make you food, at least allow lunch to be on me!" Candice held it out alongside the leash. "Please, I insist. It's the least I could do."

When she heard Jett was offering to get her food, Candice pushed the bill to his chest. "Now you must take it." She let out a cough and a laugh behind the back of her hand. "I miss eating a burger, but right now that might not be the best for me... Would you mind getting me some curry?"

Jett took the leash with little complaints—though hand sanitizer would definitely be in order once he got downstairs. When Candice went to offer the bill, he very nearly rolled his eyes at the girl. It was unnecessary for her to offer him any sort of compensation, but…

Well, if she was offering, it would be rude to argue.

"All right, all right," he said, aware that he hadn't really put much of an argument forward. But then again—Candice was already sick. Why would he want to agitate her condition any further by fighting? This was all in her best interest, after all.

"Curry it is. Now get in bed before you pass out on the floor. You sound awful," he huffed, pocketing the now-likely diseased bill. "I'll be back in half an hour or so with some curry. If you think of anything else you need, call or text."

While he remained facing her should she decide to make another comment, the hand not holding Cotton's leash was already resting on the doorknob. He was only in a little bit of a rush to leave.

Between food or the realm of the plague fiend, he knew where he wanted to be right now.

"Thanks a bunch, Jett," Candice said as she opened the door to her apartment. Before she let them leave, she looked behind the door and pulled out her spare key. "Here! Have this with you just in case I knock out and can't open the door."

She looked down at Cotton whom was running around Jett now. "My little alarm clock will be out on a break."

Candice felt weak again so made her way to her bed and sat down. "Ugh... I wish I had the energy to go out today..." She looked at Jett and Cotton. "See you both in a little bit!"

Jett offered Candice a slight wave before he escorted Cotton outside. Getting out of the apartment was like getting his first good breath of fresh air. Of course, it wan't her fault that she was sick, but self preservation was still pretty high on Jett's list.

The walk with Cotton was more than just tolerable—Jett might even go so far as to say that he enjoyed it. The dog's energy was comical, and she made for excellent company. When Jett treated himself to lunch, he even spoiled the dog with a little bite of his meal.

Not that it was easy to order food while still with a dog or anything, but Jett always found a way to make things work.

He snagged some curry for Candice and, while he did knock before entering, wasn't shy about letting himself in. Cotton certainly didn't seem to want to wait. Unhooking her from her leash, he let her do as she pleased in the apartment and set about finding Candice.

Finding her asleep on her bed was amusing—if not slightly inconvenient. He scoffed, shook his head, and delivered her curry to the fridge before letting himself out. He locked the door behind him, slid the key under the door, and doused his hands in hand sanitizer.
