Though the weather was not entirely unpleasant and was, in fact, far better a temperature than it had been in a while, Remarque was still not pleased. Most likely it had to do with the fact that it felt like his cold was getting worse. He was sniffling more than usual and had his fair share of coughs, and—realistically—being out gathering energy while ill was not the best decision he’d made recently.

But, he was addicted.

It had become a ritual of sorts—something he would do to relax and clear his mind while simultaneously keeping fit and working towards a better cause. It was more than killing two birds with one stone.

…Though, if he still had this cough by tomorrow, he might have to put his late night activities on hold before he put himself in danger.

Remarque’s mind had wandered almost as much as his feet; while he had meant to stick to back alleyways and pick off some of the more criminal looking civilians he ran into, he found himself gradually drifting further away from the safety of the shadows.

Already he’d snagged one prime volunteer for Mirror Space, though the night was still young—and there was still so much left for him to do.

The night was still young. Wasn't that the truth.

Uuni Kierstedt held very much the same mindset, though she wasn't out to taint anyone or suck out their life energy. Well, okay, not in that way.

It was a Thursday--Thursday is the new Friday, you know--she was dressed in possibly her skankiest attire. Black platforms, a jean-skirt that left almost nothing to the imagination and hugged wide hips, and a black shirt that she'd cut the top out of so it would hang around her arms and expose her shoulders.

She'd just stepped outside a well-known Destiny City gay club which was an eclectic mix for people harboring from a vast background of sexualities and gender identities. The people in it were utterly fascinating.

Uuni had introduced herself to a few people, used the old 'bum a cigarette' excuse to start a conversation, and was now taking a breather in a quiet-side alley. And by breather, she meant poisoning her lungs with that cigarette she'd retrieved.

There was a cool breeze drawing goosebumps up her arms, but Uuni didn't seem to mind. Her eyes were focused on the streets still wet from the afternoon's warmer rain and the sounds of drunkards already off to terrorize the town.

It wasn't long before her eyes caught on a wandering male figure. He looked like he had a purpose, but also something else.

"Wow," she blurted out, taking a long draw of her cigarette after the word. "Those pants." Those boots. "You look like you're going somewhere interesting."

Remarque was absolutely not accustomed to being addressed while he was out gathering energy; when it came to allies and enemies alike, it was normal. When it came from what looked to be an ordinary civilian?

Well, now. That was something new.

She was different from the sort that usually acknowledged him; whereas his typical targets were drunk out of their minds or homeless folk, she looked young. Alive. Healthy.

Well, minus that cigarette, but everyone had their vices.

"I'm always going somewhere interesting," he noted as he glanced this strange girl over. She wasn't in the least bit unpleasant to look at, and with an outfit like that, she seemed to be just asking for the attention. "If it wasn't interesting, I don't think I'd be troubling myself with going."

He was near enough to her that he paused in his step, not quite sure if it was worth it to continue conversation. He had better things to do than chat, but then again—what was life if you didn't spice things up a bit?

"What about you?" he prompted, crossing his arms over his chest. "You look like you've been somewhere interesting. What are you still doing out, shouldn't you be at home, hiding from the monsters that creep out when the sun goes down or something?"

"You're out," she pointed out bluntly. "So, you're either not afraid, or," she untucked her cell-phone from where it was lodged in her pocket. "You're a monster creeping around in the dark." Though, Uuni's ideas of monsters were quite a great deal different than the negaverse, senshi, knights, and youma that prowled the streets on their personal wars.

She gave him her best smile, though it was not made full by in sort of particular happiness. One foot, which had been resting against the wall behind her, slid back to the concrete.

"I'm going somewhere interesting after this, too," she finally answered. The cigarette was at its very end, and she let it fall, sizzle, and then stamped it the rest of the way out. "This place is cute, but it's not putting out tonight." What she meant by 'putting out' was not clarified.

"Hey, you mind if I take a picture of that outfit? I've got a friend who can't get enough of those kinds of things." She rotated the cell phone in her hand to emphasize what she wanted.

Uuni's assumption of the senshi was more than accurate. While he'd never think to describe himself as a monster (he was far too attractive and validated in his actions to consider himself as such) there were others that might take a different approach. He eyed her as she removed her phone, perhaps naturally suspicious of people. He'd known of many to try and retrieve some sort of weapon to defend themselves with when he was draining their energy, though this girl hardly seemed hostile at present.

A phone was not at all what he'd have expected her to retrieve, and the lack of enthusiasm on his face ought to have been sign enough of his disinterest. "I don't suppose that's a particularly wise idea. What sort of friends are you mingling with that they'd be interested in 'this sort of thing'?"

And he'd thought he knew weird ones already. In all the months he'd spent gathering energy, no one had asked for a picture. Never mind that he didn't like pictures much when not representing the Dark Mirror Court; there just seemed to be something taboo about even considering it while he was powered up.

Whoooboy. Good job Uuni. Way to piss off the guy in the obnoxious yellow boot-chaps (but really, she kind of wanted a pair).

Uuni tended to talk first, hold judgements later, but she'd talked, and was now forming a judgement. The main one being that now was a good time to plan the best way to leave, without pissing this guy off further. The way he said interested gave her the creeps. Her eyes made a quick, nonchalant scan of the surroundings and then she pocketed the phone.

"Oh, you know, she likes cosplayers and costumes and rave outfits. s**t like that. Makes her own, too. Pretty good at it." She could walk to that garbage can, without completely turning her back. Then, she'd be close to the main street. She could duck back into the club, get a little lost, and act like it was her plan all along.

Maybe he was one of those terrorists from the news. They dressed in all sorts of weird stuff, didn't they? It might help if she had a consistent TV to watch.

"Cigarette?" she offered instead, announcing the act of retrieving the box with the statement. And it still had that annoying plastic wrapper. Perfect for the garbage can. Uuni moved that way.

The term 'cosplay' sounded like something he'd heard before, though couldn't quite pinpoint what it was, though he'd vaguely remembered being annoyed the first time he'd heard the phrase. Associated with costumes and rave outfits, though, he could only wrinkle his nose. At least, however, her friend's interest did not lie in senshi.

"No, thank you," he said when she'd offered the cigarette. He would have freely offered had he still been in high school, however he saved cigarettes for rare, particularly necessary situations. This was certainly not the time, place or company for such Not to mention the fact that with his cough already as bad as it was, he didn't want to agitate it further. Just because he wasn't hacking now didn't mean he was looking for an excuse to wheeze up a lung. He watched the female in front of him for a very brief second before lazily scanning the area around them. She wasn't his idea of a good target, and judging by her outfit and location, he wouldn't be surprised if she had a group waiting for her in the very near vicinity. It wasn't worth stirring up a crowd for a pinch of energy.

"…Out of curiosity," he mused thoughtfully as he followed her with his eyes, "Do you always approach oddly dressed strangers? I should think that sort of behavior was typically frowned upon."

…Not like dressing in skimpy clothes and smoking weren't in the same boat or anything.

Man, he sure asked a lot of questions but didn't give very many answers. A dark and mysterious type? Well, more like a bright, noticeable, mysterious type. And not really that all mysterious. Just. . . touchy. And a little unnerving.

Half of her was waiting for a moral lecture. Maybe he was a deranged preacher out on the loose, here to startle and fix poor, misguided souls who talked to potential terrorists. Uuni pulled out a second cigarette from the box, but didn't light it. Instead, she touched the wall behind her, garnering some familiarity in the feel of the heavy bass pounding inside. The back door was barely a skip away if she needed it.

"Is it?" That was a new one. Don't talk to the street freaks, Uuni. She could almost hear it in her father's voice. "The more you know."

"I'll keep it in mind, kiddo." She wouldn't. "And while I'd love to keep breaking your ideas of typical behavior, I've got a schedule to keep. Stay safe. Sounds like the streets are dangerous tonight." In Destiny City, weren't they every night? She was beginning to feel like she needed a personal body guard.

When her hand had depressed the bar on the door, she turned to give him one final look. Never hurt to memorize a face.

Remarque kept his eyes on the girl for only the briefest of times before he shrugged. "The same to you, then," he said. Some conversations he didn't mind having, but it was rare that he ran into a civilian and didn't even bother to drain them. Perhaps it was the social setting, or the fact that she hadn't presented an ounce of fear—or this damn cold he couldn't shake, but either way, Remarque heard a nagging voice in the back of his head, chastising him for not even making an effort to drain her energy.

He turned away, rubbing at his eyes as he distanced himself from the girl.

If he couldn’t even bring himself to drain an ounce of energy, maybe tonight wasn't the best night for him to be out and about.

Bed had been sounding good for hours—would it really be so bad if he slipped back home without meeting his self-imposed quota? He'd make up for it later.

Probably.
