Galactic Commander Tethys

PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2012 1:55 pm

With guns and silence, Hayes and Aulus were led into a different part of the brig. Like the rest of the ship it was done in futuristic utilitarian style, reminiscent of a highly polished hospital hallway. A few fresh pinpoints of blood dotted the floor.

The guards stopped at a pair of windowless doors. "You're in there," the male Galactic gestured with his gun at Hayes and the left door, then to Aulus and the right. "You, in there."

As the red-haired Galactic stepped between them, Hayes shot a brief smile at Aulus that would've been a lot more encouraging if it wasn't half-covered in blood and shaky at the edges. There was a brief glimpse of him squaring his shoulders, and then the door closed firmly.

Behind Aulus' door was a starkly lit space, all whitish metallic panels like a padded room without the padding. There were two objects in it: a chair, and Tethys.

The commander smiled faintly at him. "Hello."

He just wanted to hang onto Hayes' wrist and learn to teleport. Sod the others, sorry, but sod them. He felt awful for thinking that, especially about Tam. He quite liked Tam. He wasn't some kind of big damn noble hero though; it was him and the people he cared most about that mattered. He tried to smile back at his already bloodied partner but they were pushed into different rooms and the doors closed.

Rapunzel.

A chair.

White metal, cold and clinical.

He shot the woman a snarl. "Just you and me? Well isn't this intimate?" He was pretty sure he could snap her ******** neck. He was also pretty sure that this would swiftly spell very bad news indeed for Hayes. Aulus shifted his weight but didn't move to attack her; b***h probably still had her shocking Starmie as well.

The woman didn't bat an eyelash; she gestured at the chair. "Sit." It was said in the tones of someone as equally used to giving orders as having them obeyed.

The chair was metal, as hard and uncomfortable as the rest of the room. It was also bolted securely to the floor.

Aulus looked at the chair. Then he looked at Tethys. Then he looked around the rest of the room for guns. He folded his arms across his chest. "Why should I do that?" He was trapped. Sooner or later he would die horribly. He would not die knowing he had been cowed the moment they had dragged him in here. Show some fight, some spirit at least.

He wanted to go home.

There were two, slung in holsters on the commander's belt. There were also a number of Pokeballs, and when she turned slightly, a metal baton at the small of her back.

"Because we are civilized," the woman answered, as if it was obvious. "And because you would like to go home."

Aulus shifted again, feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the situation and wondering if he really could reach her before she drew a gun. Maybe. Maybe was not very reassuring. "Am I really supposed to believe you'll release me, let me go back to Team Rocket? What would you gain from doing that?" What did she want from him? What was happening to Hayes at the minute? "What is it you and your boss want from me anyway, from any of us? Is it all about letting our boss know you have us and... are going to hurt us?"

He couldn't help the slight pause. ********. He wasn't some kind of p***y, he'd happily take on people with knives and s**t trying to hurt him or his friends but this was... this was different. He wasn't prepared for something like this, he was scared and he didn't know what to do. How had Lore still been able to joke? Maybe he was just a coward in the end.

Tethys tilted her head to the side in a light, birdlike movement. "I'd rather not." Her voice was feminine and slightly husky, but something glimmered in her eyes. "We're not monsters." Unlike you.

She gestured again, her other hand demurely behind her back. "Sit."

Aulus stayed where he was and thought. What was he gaining by not doing as she said? She wasn't exactly going to at some point give him a pat on the head and tell him since he'd been so defiant they would let him go. On the other hand, staying here put off whatever she wanted to do to him once he was in the chair. Then again, she probably didn't have a specific time in mind when she would just say 'oh well, I ran out of time so you can go back to the call now'. He wanted to go back to the cell. Amazing how fast your goals could shift.

He moved forward slowly and sat down in the chair. Looking up, he said; "You killed Aila." They had. He hadn't known her well but she'd seemed a nice enough girl and she'd only been in her teens. She shouldn't have died like that.

"Good," Tethys said when he sat down.

There was a slight pause as she ran through her memory for a face to match up to the name and found none. "One of yours from the Machine," she concluded, looking down at the man sitting in the chair, then: "No. It's a regrettable outcome, but she invaded our home, destroyed our work. We did not kill her. She killed herself, just as your comrade in the cell hurt another. I would rather not kill."

She moved now, a brisk step that took her to Aulus' other side. "You would like to go home. We would like information. This can be done. There can be an exchange. Information for you - and one other."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:44 pm

They had killed Aila. They'd only ended up at the Machine because they'd been going to save Nyx... who had only been there because of a plan to get information out of the Purple Poofter. The dumb kid hadn't hurt Tambery. If they hadn't gone to the Machine Aila would be alive. If Shawn hadn't mouthed off Tam wouldn't have been hurt.

Aulus looked down at the floor.

She didn't mean what she said, he was sure she didn't, it was all much too easy. Even if it was a genuine offer it wasn't like he could accept it, not with the whole 'team' thing, and anyway TR would just hunt him down and kill him... they would, right? He couldn't accept, and there was no point anyway.

Aulus looked back up at Tethys. "No. I won't tell you anything." What if she had meant it? What if she and Galactic, with all their tech, could have protected him and Hayes?... No. She hadn't meant it, it was just a trick or something. What was happening to Hayes right now? Who was in the room with him? Were they hurting him? Maybe he shouldn't have dismissed the ice b***h so easily... but no. No. He couldn't have said yes to her... could he?

"Ah. So you don't want to help him?" The commander sounded mildly surprised. "That's unfortunate. I thought he was your friend, from the way he smiled at you."

She gave Aulus a faint, disappointed smile. "We'll let them continue in the other room, then."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:02 pm

"Wait!"

Aulus shot to his feet; if the chair hadn't been bolted down he probably would have knocked it over. No. No no no. Why was this happening? He didn't deserve this. Hayes didn't deserve this.

"Don't you dare even think of hurting him!"

He was in a locked room with a woman with guns. There was nothing he could do, he was powerless to help his friend. He might as well have mouthed off like Shawn rather than just refused to give information. If they hurt Hayes now it was his fault.

Aulus had been afraid all along; there had been hints of that fact before it was really very plain now.

"Please. Don't hurt him. Just let us go, we can't tell you anything that important anyway. Please."

Hayes was head of tech now. Did they know that? He prayed they did not.

Tethys watched him stand, unruffled. "But I'm not," she replied, just as if someone had accused her of having purple skin. "I'm thinking of your choice."

She blinked once, lids closing briefly over her black eyes. "If you'd like to reconsider, please begin with your rank."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:15 pm

She didn't know what his rank was? Did that mean she didn't know Hayes'? Aulus licked his dry lips, which didn't actually help because his mouth had gone dry too. "Don't... don't you already know that?" He could ask questions, right? She couldn't get angry with him for that could she?... She didn't seem angry at all, just cold.

Tethys' arm whipped out; there was a hard crack. She'd sent the baton at her waist telescoping into a staff that slammed into the floor.

The woman wore a very faint smile. "Your rank."
