whenever someone writes a fan fiction of an anime, they tend to write it as if they were writing a script, especially for comedy. I remember reading one for naruto and for every sentence i saw the word deadpanned and it was pretty annoying (although my english teacher says repetition is good) but whatever...just expressing some idle thoughts.
EDIT ANDDD the genre romance is overused....

I think that repetition is okay in moderation. Every other sentence? I'm glad I never came across that thing.
OTL Comedy fics are usually joke-focused, although it's not exactly funny. I'm not surprised it's lacking in quality. My only advice is to judge by summaries. If they say something like "rly funney" or have strange misspellings and questionable grammar, it's better to pass it and move to another. Do not open ones that says it's _____, like sad, funny, angsty, or other adjectives relevant to the genre. It is like it's trying to convince us, and frankly, I would not be convinced.

The more crowded a fandom is, it will have too much amateur writers. Not like I'm saying I'm superior, but I mean those who disregards the rules of writing. Especially Naruto-- never have I seen so much OC/canon character in one place. And in a questionable way of writing. (I've been picky even before I tried writing. Proper grammar says a lot about a person-- at least the spelling did.)
OTL It's hard to do that, but I bid you a good luck. Comedy usually lacks plot.

Glad I found this thread. It's always good to know what people dislike.
All I can add is, if the summary has the words funny or hilarious (or anything to do with humor) it will be far away from that. If you are looking for good stories, always check the reviews.

I used to read fanfictions (and still do sometimes, and write my own occasionally), so I know how it feels.
My advice: When you're about to read a fanfiction, read the summary first, and before you read, skim through what's there to see if it's hard to read or satisfies you. I usually like to skim to see if I'm able to read it.
I don't read a alot of comedy fanfictions, but they can be lacking depending on the author.
