Inkling roamed through the land, intent on her purpose, story finding, and subsequently, telling. She lived and breathed stories, Fantasy, Horror, Romance~ it was all her medium, it was in her blood, so to speak, or rather, her ink. As if responding, her inky mane swirled and sketched pictures in the air as she walked, doodles of twiggy fae and fearsome dragons. While she traveled she would outright ignore things that were obvious and be intent on those minuscule things that barely any noticed. Those made the best stories after all, they were like tender plants, such as the bean that grew into a giant beanstalk and offered one treasures beyond their wildest dreams.

She had come to this land on the hunt for new stories to tell them to folks she happened upon on her travels. She was picky however, she wanted only the best stories, those lovely things passed down from generation to generation. She had once met a family of moth like soquili who had come from another land...The tales they told. She smiled, her sharp teeth glinting, She really hoped she happened upon something or someone very very soon~
A nice juicy story, a fearsome beast, a bridge troll, a fae, even a prince~

She swished her long tail behind her, her scales rustling like paper as she continued on her way, leaving inky footprints behind over the trodden foliage.

Kouichi stood at the edge of a small pool of water, melted snow that hadn't been absorbed into the ground for one reason or another, peering at his reflection. He'd been given a very special gift by his mother; a deep reddish-purple coat. It had been described as a coming of age gift and his brother and sister had each received one as well. The gift had been lovely but while working out how to put it on Kouichi had begun to wonder if it was actually some sort of intelligence test: 'are you smarter than this clothing?' He had finally got it on with a great deal of help and knew he was never going to take it off. His brother and sister had looked very impressive in their own coats of white and blue but this was the first time Kouichi had seen himself.

He turned his head this way and that examining himself from different angles and occasionally tugging a bit of fabric into place. He looked dignified and every bit the image of the prince that he aspired to be. He smiled at his reflection before turning around with a feeling of pride swelling up inside of his chest. A prince. He looked the part. Now he just needed something to do with himself.

He scanned the horizon for any signs of nearby disturbances. Anyone needing help. Lost children perhaps. Maybe a fox caught in a hunters trap. What he saw wasn't anything like what he was looking for and he found himself staring. Was he in the presence of some god? He'd been told of gods and how there were many of them but this didn't look like any of the ones he'd been told about.

Through all the dark wood and bright green foliage in the area, the stallion was rather easy to spot with how colorful he was. What LUCK! she thought, she happened upon a smartly dressed gentlebeast just down the way there. She stopped, her heavily lidded eyes getting juuuust a bit wider with her growing anticipation. " Well Hello~" she purred, her voice carrying down to the ears of her sudden find. Her lips curled into a content smile, her tail swishing eagerly. She tucked her inky skeletal wings to her sides and slid through the remaining trees and down towards him with barely any pause, her movements almost serpentine, her inky mane scrawling excitedly in the air, jotting down the things that begin stories. All the little things.

The inky hoof prints she left behind seemed to writhe upon the fallen leaves, as if trying to escape before settling into the shape of her cloven hooves. She of course, did not with to frighten her muse away. " Are you a Prince?" she asked, with a slight tilt of her head, her tail curling languidly behind her with a papery rustle.

Her hair caught his attention as the mare approached and held it until she settled. It was moving and forming shapes. What these shapes were he wasn't rightly sure. They didn't look like anything he had ever seen before but the way the formed didn't seem random enough to be completely meaningless. Regardless, whatever they were, they were moving and hair most certainly wasn't supposed to do that. He only managed to tear his gaze away from the unusual forms because her question startled him so.

A prince? His eyes flicked down to his new coat for the briefest of moments. How about that, even others thought he looked like a prince now. "I...I am." Or at least he tried to be. He didn't want to second guess himself in front of others though. "And you, are you some deity?" He'd learned the names and heard about the forms of many divine beings but he still couldn't think of one that would have her form. Maybe she was something else. Maybe she was something dangerous that would harm others.

That wouldn't do. He couldn't let some hateful beast run rampant endangering innocent people. Kouichi would have to keep an eye out for any signs of malevolence.

She could very plainly see that she had caught the stallion off guard, but she wasn't here to surprise him, her appearance though, tended to do that to folks whether she liked it or not. Of course, being a character of dramatic things, she didnt MIND it at all.

" Oh good~ I was beginning to think i would never find one~" She smiled at him, genuinely pleased, even her teeth seeming to be somehow drawn from the living ink that swirled around her being. " Diety?" She laughed brightly, her tail curling behind her with a very crinkley sound " Oh goodness no~ I am flesh and blood, same as you i expect ~ but of course like every good story book character, i am just a bit special." Her eyes glittered and her inky hair scrawled special above her ear tips " I am a collector and teller of tales, But i'm sure you mean the ink dont you? Well yes, it seems its hmm...a part of me. So i suppose i'm made of flesh, blood and ink." She chuckled.
She stretched out one inky wing " But oh, my manners~ My name is Inkling" she purred, looking him over, obviously interested in him in some way or another " And what is yours? I would need your name to start the story of course" She brightened " If you're a prince you have a story, that's how it usually goes. Any story will do really." She offered

Meaning, of course, that she had been looking for a prince for some reason.

He eyed the mare quizzically just not sure what to make of her. She said she was nothing divine but the sound of her tail sweeping along was more akin to the rustling of dried leaves than that of a normal tail. However, what he had taken for reptilian scales at a distance seemed to be made of something else entirely. Whatever she was it wasn't anything natural. Perhaps she was no goddess but something divine had certainly interfered with her.

He realized once more that he had been staring, though thankfully not at the looping blackness, at the mare. Of course he only noticed this because not three seconds later he was staring at a wing that looked suspiciously like the stuff in her hair. Ink she called it.

"I'm Kouichi." He responded dutifully not certain what to say to the rest of her bizarre statements. His mind wouldn't still. The mare had said so many things in such a short period of time. It was difficult to know where to start. He began with the obvious problem. "You are made of flesh, blood and ink?" He paused collecting his thoughts. "How?" It was a troubling thought. All that stuff about stories, in particular his story could wait. He wasn't terribly inclined to share his story with most people, especially not complete strangers.

She didn't seem to be in any immediate danger, or in any danger at all for that matter, so it was okay to question her.

" Kouichi is it? marvelous~ interesting name" She nodded her head, his name scrawling out in ink above her. She blinked at his questioning and smiled widely, her fangs gleaming " Ah - I see you are confused, that's fine. Of course it is odd that I have the "Ink".
She shrugged, her scales rustling " That's what the two legged sort call it anyway." She chuckled " But asking about the ink, well, that, young prince, is like asking why you have purple hair. It is natural for me."

She wrinkled her nose a little and tucked her wings comfortably to her sides
" Well! Now that we have been acquainted. Why don't you tell me about yourself Prince Kouichi? I am not a malevolent creature if you are worried about that sort of thing" She chuckled dryly " Simply on a quest to find new stories~ which most princes that i have ever encountered, seem to have plenty of."

He pondered over her answer for a short time before deciding it was acceptable enough. He had inherited the color of his mane and tail from his sire and while he had never met the stallion himself Kouichi knew that they shared blood. That blood had given him purple hair instead of pink and his sister a brown coat. If it was the same for her then either her mother or father was as she was. It didn't quite answer the question of where it had come from in the first place but it could be assumed that she didn't know the full origin.

"I suppose that makes sense." He conceded not pressing the issue further allowing his mind to move on to other problems. She wanted his story but at the same time she seemed a cheerful creature, albeit a bit odd and slightly creepy, and his was not a cheerful one. Was it possible to tell about himself without touching on the troubles of his life? Perhaps if he avoided details he would be fine.

"There isn't much to say. I'm part of a family of five that's part of a larger family that makes up the herd that I live with. I've been training to be like one of my moms since I was little and that training's made me what you see today." That was nice and vague. Nothing was out of the ordinary and nothing could clue her in. It was for the best. He was protecting her from a miserable tale. "I'm sorry but all and all I'm just not that interesting."

Inkling seemed to make a tsking sound, her tail swishing behind her " That was an outline Prince, an outline~ Ahhh but still..." though her hair continued to writhe, it was unresponsive to what he had said, however, the astute would notice small black lines seemed to scrawl across one of her many "scales."

" A large family, oh, a herd~ all very good, a stable home is a rare thing nowadays." Her eyes gleamed " Or so I am told. I have never had anything close to a herd or family myself" She wrinkled her nose and flicked an ear, as if shooing off the thought " But i'm much too busy collecting stories you see" She smiled " Prince training~ What does that entail i wonder? How do you train for royalty? Fight dragons perhaps? Save Princesses?" Her inky mane scrawled up a dragon which seemed to "Fly" above her head before vanishing back into her hair.

" Oh pish tosh, i'm sure you're very interesting" Her scales rustled as a breeze whispered through them " You're just clamming up, I can tell, sort of like writers block." She peered at him quizzically " Royalty tends to have interesting stories, and i am a collector of all sorts of genre...so I was glad to find you~ of course i cannot force you to share~" She smiled rather toothily "I'm not out to eat your anything, haha, oh no sir, you're not to be the other white meat."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:49 am

Kouichi felt his face heat when she chided him. She didn't sound particularly angry about his outlining but it didn't seem as though she was willing to accept that as the end.

He looked on nervously as she commented on his failure of a story. It seemed as though she was all alone. That would explain her strange ways. It did bring back the question of her ink though. He watched as a shape that looked like a kalona but not quite the same formed in her hair. If she never had anything close to a family than how did she know her ink was natural? Intuition perhaps?

"I'm not sure how to tell you this, Inkling, but I'm not royalty." He wasn't entirely sure he should say it, especially not after her comment on 'the other white meat.' Sure she wasn't going to eat him now but if she knew what color his meat was that meant she had probably eaten others like him. "I'm a prince by creed not by blood. That is how you can train to be one. You just have to...behave in a princely fashion."

She raised an inky eyebrow and curled her tail tightly behind her, slightly disappointed, but soon she uncurled it, mane swirling with muddled images of crowns and dragons " Well, i suppose there are other ways to become a Princeling." She narrowed her eyes, concentrating on what he was saying, his words scrawling magically across her papery scales. " Creed, that is important, mmhmm~" She hadn't been pleased to find out he wasn't royalty, but that was getting to be a prince the easy way, this was much more interesting. " So you trained and were groomed to be one so to speak" She nodded " How do you behave like a prince? i've met, in my time, some pretty snobbish folks."

" So " she offered, stretching out her inky wings " Tell me about your trials to become a prince."

She wasn't happy but at least she wasn't shouting or attacking him for unintentionally misleading her. That was always a good thing. In a small way he felt that he owed her at least a little more information for being so understanding. Conveniently she wasn't really asking him to delve into the more delicate subjects of his life.

"Yes, that's one way to put it." He confirmed with a nod. "I was trained by a mare named Revyra since I was a foal in combative arts along with my mother and sometimes the..." He paused. He'd nearly called Hayagriva the protector heir. At the time that's what he had been but he wasn't anymore. "Sometimes the herd's protector trained me as well." Not any longer though, Hayagriva had more important matters to deal with nowadays.

"To behave like a prince, well, you really just have to act nobly. You look out for those that can't help themselves and you stand up against the wrongs of the world." As he spoke his eyes shone with utter belief in what he was saying. He knew this was the way people should act and in a better world everyone would be a prince. "As for trials...well...training was pretty trying. You don't do through Revyra's training without coming out a bit mangled." He chuckled. Kouichi liked Revyra but she had a reputation for being a bit adamant.

" Mmhmmm, oh, interesting~ you even had a trainer." She nodded sagely as he answered her tentative questions. She found herself wondering what sort of noble creature this "Revyra" was, she would likely never see her past her wandering imagination. " Ooooh, even the protector, that's very good for a young prince, to learn from the battle hardened hearts that are around you. Mmm, very good" A long black tongue flicked out from behind her long fangs, as if she were trying to taste something.

" Act~Nobly~" she repeated, the words scrawling in the air " That is indeed a princely trait, and something a normal prince would do, yes." Her eyes glittered as she started to understand more and more about him, even though he wasn't telling her everything. Well, to be fair they NEVER tell you eeeeverything. But it would be nice. " Well princes are just a hair of responsibility past some knights i have met in my travels." She smiled " you share similar qualities."

Inkling smiled as he started to loosen up a little, even going so far to chuckle to himself over his memories. " Oh hoo, this Revyra sounds like a tough one."
Her mane swirled languidly, needing more to draw and write. " Did you WANT to be a prince though Kouichi?
PostPosted: Sat Mar 10, 2012 9:53 am

Kouichi was beginning to get the feeling that her 'ink' was responding to whatever she said. He still couldn't tell you what the shapes meant but they seemed to pop up more when she said something that she took a particular interest in.

"A knight would be a good thing to be too, I think." He thought for a moment on the subject. "Though...I think maybe knights all want to be princes as well..." It was an idea. He wasn't sure about it though. He didn't know any knights himself and didn't know exactly where they were different.

"She is very tough. She'd have to be to keep up with Haya though." And skinwalkers and kalona and every other beast that she fought off. His thoughts on his tutor stopped abruptly at Inkling's last question.

"Of course I want to be a prince! It's all I've ever wanted!"

" Hmmm, i never thought to ask them actually, perhaps that will lead to another story later on" she mused " Though they were sort of odd knights, perfect for an interesting tale~ If i ever find them again that is, being a wanderer has it's advantages and it's disadvantages" she chortled. " Perhaps you shall run into them yourself, while some knights are all the same, boring armor clinkers with a stiff sense of honor. These ones, well, you'll know em when you see em." She swished her tail behind her.

" I seeee~" she drawled, scrawling down what she could get from him. " Wow, really now? kalona and walkers? we have similar things where i originally came from, very rude beasts." She shook her head, her inky hair coiling like snakes to avoid splattering. A wide smile lit upon her face, her exposed fangs glinting, though it was a genuine smile " Ah~ well that's good to know~" She purred " Being a prince isn't all crowns and fancy cushions I hear~"
