Text messages probably would have been the way most people would have gone about the task of inviting a group of people to meet them in particular. However, Invictus had taken the time to hand pen several very well treated notes, seal them, and then at a reasonable hour of the day travel to several doors to lave his invitation - complete with seal - to extend his offer.

Inside of it there was a date, time, and very minimal instructions:

Quote:
You have passed my first Trial. As such, I request your assistance in the fine tuning of the next Stealth Challenge.

If you are not interested, you need not come. If you are interested, however, please meet me at the center of the fogged woods - I am sure you will be able to pass through to it well enough if you have already gotten this far. You will not even be required to pick anything up along the way.

To some it wouldn't be the most impressive of ideas - the forest had its own problems to deal with just to get through it without a goal of where to go. However, those who did wish to meet Invictus's challenge, upon following his instructions of where to meet would be finding themselves in the middle of that same foggy forest they'd had to traverse to collect the trinkets in. There was what looked like a fortress made of trees that looked to be completely dark on the inside.

Dark, sans a few patrolling lights that resembled the guardsmen of the forest itself. There was a significant lack of Fog on the inside, but outside Invictus himself lingered - waiting, impassive. He had expectations, but what they were, were not revealed at that time.

((OOC: You guys have been extended an Invitation from Invi for passing his Open Class Stealth Trial! You don't have to help with this though. ICly your student did receive a note.))

The note received was intriguing in the least. Shun had trouble deciphering it, but thankfully he had a little bit of a helping hand when it came to these things. It sounded as though Invictus required a bit of assistance for the next stealth trial. Personally, he was always looking to hone his abilities to move among the shadows, so this opportunity seemed prime.

Once at the familiar forest, he eyed the dark depths, noting the few soft lights moving about. Quietly, he made his way through, towards the center. There, he spotted the horseman, with no others around. Then again, he wasn't sure if others were supposed to show up to this at all in the first place.

Nodding to Invi, he just placed his hands in his pockets and waited silently for something to happen.

Roch came next. He slipped through the trees, his mind keeping track of the various lights, a little grin pulling at his lips. There were several reasons he was excited about this--he LIKED being a sneaky lil son of a witch, it had come in handy several times in his life, and any chance to add to that was one he would grab with both hands. He also still liked Invi. Any guy that could do the stuff Invi could was tops in his book, even after that scene in the treasure room.

And besides, top secret meetings in the middle of a dangerous wood? AWESOME. He wondered how many in the school had passed that test--

Well, he wasn't surprised to see Shun, he thought as he got to the other two. He raised a hand in greeting and moved to their side, turning to see who else would show up.

An invite to take part in another trial by the horseman would not go unnoticed. Her first had earned her a newfound respect for "the big ones" and showed Invictus was someone she could better her own stealth from. Her kin would be so proud to learn she was bettering a skill they prided in. Levi did indeed find herself going through the woods- most of the difficulty deciding in where the center was while evading being seen.

Once the ghoul was close enough, she could make out the figures of Invictus, Shun and Roch. For a moment, Levi was about to give them a good hillbilly greeting and wave... but oh right- they were being secretive right now. Settling for a nod, the ghoul crossed her arms at her back and kept close.

Titus was rather curious about the hand written invitation that he had received requesting help for setting up the next trial of stealth.

"Who hand writes invitations?" Was the pony that old fashioned?

Whatever, Titus was just glad the horseman had noted his remarkable talents.....after the demon had failed the course a number of times. That aside he had still completed it so there was that.

With the invitation tucked away in his coat Titus strolled through the foggy forest as if he owned the place. At least until he remembered how well that had went last time and took an air of caution as he continued to traverse the woods, avoiding the lights in the distance. The lights always meant bad things were coming.

Finally the nightmare demon arrived at the designated location clearly having taken a wrong turn through a bush or a low hanging tree. Leaves and a small branch were sticking out of his hair and his jacket looked like it had been caught on a few things....but he was here.

His gaze circled around at the people present, nodding to Invictus as he passed until he settled on an all to familiar face. A smile twisted his lips but for the time being the demon remained silent. So he and Shun would be playing again. How fun.

There wasn’t even the smallest crunch underneath her feet as the Pricolici stepped in to join the group that was apparently forming in the company of the Horseman, Shehk nodding towards Roch, Levi, and Titus in greeting, then shooting a knowing look towards Shun. She was there, he’d know what that meant after their discussion at Scarentines. It had just taken a bit to force herself to relax enough to manage was all. She didn’t really do well at relaxing with all the thoughts mulling her head, but still she was doing her best with it.

And she’d finally managed to get all of the trinkets she needed. She was sure that there were those who had just…walked through the forest like a ninja and just managed it, but she was proud, Jack Dammit!

Still, it seemed as though most of what was being exchanged at that time were silent looks and Shehk tried to not seem shaken by that.

"You are allowed to speak." Invictus said after what seemed like a very long and nervewrecking silence in which he'd looked between each person present, as though he was scrutinizing each of them. However, what he was thinking was mostly left unsaid as he moved towards the group, as presentable as he always was - which was probably part of why he was able to give such advice on moving stealthily. Even his clothing seemed to avoid the ground, making absolutely no noise as he walked.

"But it does seem as though I at least piqued some interest if you all arrived." he probably would have seem amused if his face hadn't been remaining unchanged. "And it seems that by passing my previous challenge, you were able to make it pass them...." He motioned with one hand behind the group.

Shehk turned to look and the others would also find that right behind them would stand one of what was called a 'big one'.

They were distinctly humanoid looking, but they appeared to be made simply out of light, wearing no armor, or any sort of distinctive item besides the fact their bodies would occasionally flicker. Their hands were three simple looking fingers which were eerily long with one functioning as a sort of thumb. No face of any sort would be distinguishable, but there were a pair of lights that flickered red on either side of the head.

"Feel free to take a moment to look them over. They won't attack you as they are now." he instructed. "I'm giving you a minute to discern what you'll be seeing inside up close."

There would be several things to note about them with some careful examination.

Things to Note

Feel free to RP your student interacting with the five 'Big Ones' present! They don't bite! There is one for each student to snoop, so GM it as needed.

1. They don't react to movement, but they will react to sudden noises and flashing lights
-----> They do not respond to speaking voices and almost appear to not hear them.
2. There is a response to scents - especially to sweat, but even things as lingering as someone having used a scented soap to bathe with will also cause some looks.
3. They do not respond to light touching with fingers, but strong jabs with them or full palm contact does rouse a response.
4. Despite looking made of light, they are very much solid and almost feel like wood to the touch.
5. The red lights only turn on when they appear to be picking something up
6. If you suddenly move away from them, they will chase and almost seem to run digitgrade.
7. Hanging items draw their attention for some reason.....

Slowly, other students had appeared in the clearing. At the sight of Titus, he couldn't help but frown. Damn the nightmare demon. Though, he didn't say anything to him. Now was not the time for such things. When Shehk entered, he caught her gaze, and nodded in return. It seemed his advice to her might have done some good. He also gave Roch and Levi each a small acknowledging nod before turning his attention to the one that had summoned them here.

Even though he was allowed to speak, Shun still stayed quiet. He didn't really have anything to say right now after all.

Turning around when Invictus motioned behind them, he saw that the big ones were right there. For a moment, he wondered if he was going to have to duck somewhere, but the creature was rather stationary right now. He shot a glance back towards Conquest, then looked over the being of light.

"Inside?" he finally said after hearing that, not entirely certain what was meant by it. Furrowing his brow, he slowly lifted hand. It didn't really seem to react to the speech, nor his slow movement right now. Reaching out, he lightly touched the thing briefly, finding that it was fairly solid. Again it didn't move at all.

"It's the big ones, right?" Roch asked, heading to another of them and poking it hard in the side. The big one jerked, reacting to the poke and Roch jumped back, getting even more attention. "Huh. Wait, what?" he said, hearing Shun's question. "What do you mean inside? Are we gonna get in these things?"

Oooooh, that sounded like fun! A wide, almost devious grin crossed his face. "Kinda like the bots that they have in the trash class, or something? But with an inside..."

He hoped it wasn't too hot inside, though.

"They're living creatures, you will not be getting inside of them. This is a matter of observation for what is inside." Invictus motioned to the tree fortress behind him, as though puzzled that it would be inquired as to what he meant. Then again, it was also partially masked by the fog, so perhaps it was doing its job.

Shehk walked around the 'Big One' curiously, her tail flicking and leaving a trail of light in its wake which seemed to draw the creature's attention, the red lights on its head flickering on as it seemed to 'turn' to watch her. She frowned, seeming to note that she did have a distinct disadvantage against losing these things. No wonder she'd been caught so much if the very act of her moving (which created the trails of light) would lure them.

Curious.

As soon as Invictus said them, Titus turned to find the looming creatures called the big ones. Oh he was familiar with them. He had found his way out of this forest enough times to make an embarrassing memory. Since they weren't moving though he approached, standing in front of one and looking it over curiously. Its body was almost like a flickering flame but they didn't move much at all. The one in front of Titus seemed to be staring intently at his face. The demon had no idea how brightly his eyes came in contrast with the darkness.

"They are curious things aren't they?" He prodded one but it didn't seem to get a reaction. "What are you even staring at....Hey?" Titus snapped his fingers as if trying to break the creature's trance which seemed to work. Immediately it turned toward the sharper noise. Titus knew they picked up on the sound of snapping twigs well enough, this was probably similar. He was also fairly certain they had hearing like a bat's.

"So what's the purpose of these things anyway?" Titus asked tapping against one as if it were a piece of furniture and not a creature.

Invictus gave each of them plenty of time to investigate the creatures that were at hand.

"They're like..guard dogs, you could say." the horseman answered to Titus's question. "In the right habitat even you could say they were living booby traps. But that requires far too much sand for me to have prepared efficiently to play with." he continued on, making vague references that had Shehk puzzling the slightest amount. "Generally, they are a hive species, bearing a queen who functions as a sort of hive mind. The queen of these tends to...like treasure as well, so if you try to take these treasures from her and she notices it.... well, you can imagine that her 'children'," he motioned again to the eyeless creatures in front of each of them, "would descend upon you in an instance."

It was rather easy to see what he was getting at with this trial. They were going to play item recovery for him.

"You will be tasked with getting inside and out of this hive," again, he motioned to the tree fortress, "in one piece while recovering a particular item for me. I will not tell you what it is, however. You will know what it is as the queen of this hive has very few treasures so she will guard them more cautiously."

He seemed confident enough he hadn't given them an impossible task.

"Any questions before you go in?"

"If we dissipate where will we wind up, and will we get another chance to try?" Roch asked. As in, he wasn't about to back down on this. But he wasn't stupid enough to think he couldn't fail.

Examining the creature a little more, Shun soon turned to look at Invictus as he continued to explain a few things about what their task was. It sounded simple enough, he supposed.

"Are there other creatures aside from these large ones that we should know about?" he asked. The Reaper didn't think that the others would be as much of an issue. If they were anything like bees or ants, there were pretty much just three classes. The queen, the workers, and the soldiers. The last one was generally the one to worry about.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2012 7:21 pm

Titus eyed the creatures as Invictus shed a little more light on what they were and how they worked in a way. So they worked under the influence of one creature. That was easy enough to handle though Titus' theory on getting around that little problem was taking out the queen. If you took out the brain the rest of the body couldn't function and without their queen they couldn't get orders. Though he doubted the pony would be very pleased with this thought process.

"What's the matter soul herder? Can't handle a few surprises?" Titus grinned playfully obviously not going to back down from a challenge. (Despite how it might be in his better interest) Self preservation was never a strong point.

Shun's eyes narrowed as he shot Titus a glare.

"Regardless if I like them or not, I would prefer to be prepared if possible. I wouldn't expect someone as dull as you to understand, Tits," he hissed back to the nightmare demon.

He was hoping this would be an individual effort. Working with Titus always ended up poorly.

One way or another.
