Elle was back in the park. It was dark, and spooky, and she wouldn't be here at all,except...she felt guilty. She had, by pure chance, spotted Luke on his way out of some fancy restaurant and decided to tail him. There was a bit of unfinished business on her end...and she didn't know if she'd be able to find Luke again so easily.

But it was frighteningly dark, and she had lost sight of him for a moment. She wandered around, eventually stumbling into a nice clearing filled with cast iron park benches and bubbling fountains.

Luke didn't particularly care that it was as dark as it was, nor did he mind the winter chill the absence of the sun afforded. He was largely unaware of his surroundings at the moment, and an instinctive familiarity with the area had brought him to the now-deserted park. He sat sulkingly in one of those cast iron benches, facing on of those gently bubbling fountains, and in quiet, sweet tones, he sang. The words were foreign even to him, wrought in a language he had been excused from learning in lieu of his amnesia, and comprised a melody that he knew as a lullaby - a lullaby that his mother sang to him, her only son. There was a strangely fierce melancholy to his voice despite all his efforts to unwind from his overwhelming tension.

Elle heard him before she saw him. She crept as close as she dared, then slipped behind a tree trunk, peeking out behind it, mesmerized by the song. His singing was fabulous, the song haunting. Foreign, yes, but...beautiful despite the language barrier.

She listened for a short while, then slipped out from her hiding place, awe written on her face. "That was wonderful...I didn't know you could sing like that," she said softly."

The sudden voice startled him, and within a moment he was standing, staring wide-eyed at the woman that had approached him without his knowing. He recognized her from earlier as the individual that had called him Asch, and his expression immediately soured. "I can't," he countered, ignoring the disparity of his words versus the appraisal of the woman who had heard for herself. "Leave me alone." He turned from her, moving as if to leave.

"No, wait! Please?" she said, taking a few hurried steps forward. "Look, I know...I know things weren't really great earlier, and I shouldn't have said what I did, and I'm sorry, okay?" She scuffed the toe of her shoe in the dirt. "I thought that, maybe, if you two were both mad at me you'd stop being mad at each other."

She sighed, tugging on her thumb nervously. "I just...figured I owed you an apology."

She thought of his singing and smiled timidly at him, even though he wasn't looking very happy with her. "And...and you really do have a beautiful voice, you know."

Against his better judgment, Luke stopped to hear what she had to say, though he did not turn to face her. His posture tensed, and his shoulders raised, "You don't know anything!" His sudden shout startled a flock of nesting Pidgey from the nearby tree line, and they fluttered hurriedly into the dark sky. When he spoke again, his tone returned to a normal speaking volume, but his words were venomous, "Don't just go apologizing if you don't you don't even know what you've done." It seemed Elle had become the unfortunate target of a blame that he had nowhere else to dispense.

Elle tensed for a moment, then narrowed her eyes. "What I've done, sir," she said slowly, a hint of frustration in her voice, "is insult the both of you. I thought I'd crossed a line, that's all. Believe me, I wouldn't dare apologize for anything more than is merited--your little feud with Asch is not my concern. I was trying to prevent a scene at a party, that's all."

She sighed. "But maybe I shouldn't have even bothered trying to make amends. Oh well. At least my conscience is clean."

There was, for a time, no reply, but eventually he turned partially, just enough to make marginal eye contact. He opened his mouth as if to speak but soon closed it again, averting his attention. The apology that his voice lacked was spoken in his features. A time longer passed in silence before he finally said something, "Well, thanks for that, I guess..." He tried to sound at least partially sincere, though the tone that pervaded was largely dejected.

The silence that stretched between them was tense, Elle quietly fuming at the indignation of it all. She had come to apologize to him, and he should at least have the skill to accept it gracefully.

Elle's features softened slowly as she realized he wasn't going to be as big of a jerk as she had originally thought. "Mmm, I gather it's not been a fun day for you," she mused. "If I were to ask how you were doing, would you get mad again?" she asked, a wry grin on her face. It seemed like Luke was a time bomb of pent up emotion--he seemed to have a short fuse. Of course, after that run in with Asch...well, Elle couldn't really blame him for being temperamental.

Luke breathed a passing sigh. "Dunno," he answered frankly. "Probably not. I'm pretty sick of being mad." As his tension faded from him, he was left with immense weariness, and stared at the woman with a momentary hesitation before returning to the bench he previously left. He was too tired to be standoffish. In an expression of this, he propped his elbows against his knees and pressed his forehead against his palms. He knew he would be angry again come the following day, but for now he just wanted to... stop.

Elle plopped down beside him, her hair falling in a flurry around her face as made a most ungraceful landing. She laid an arm lightly across the back of the bench and crossed her legs. "Sounds to me like you either need to sleep for a week or get hammered. Or maybe get hammered and then sleep for a week." She grinned. "I know I should be serious and tell you some deep nonsense, but really, I think all you need is a little fun. Stop going around as tight as a wire like you did today and breathe."
