Adrenaline was a heady thing.

He'd been skirting the borders of this pride for a few days now. He was hungry, tired... and yet both of those physical impairments were keeping him on edge. Fueled by the anticipation that coursed through his veins, Hinoko was ready to challenge, ready to take his place among the lions that called themselves the Stormborn.

Rumors ran rampant across the savanna, and these rumors were what had intrigued him, had brought him here. Rumors spoke of the lions who considered themselves the children of the Gods, lions whose belief system was based on honor and strength. While Hinoko's honor could sometimes be brought into question, there was no denying that he was strong of body and mind.

Opening his mouth, Hinoko released a bellowing roar. If anyone was around, they would hear him.

Galning sashayed through the brush at the border of the pride. He was playing a game with himself where he wasn't allowed to let his left side touch anything green. It was a silly game, but he was bored. He did his time on sentry duty like all the other reavers, but he never got to fight with anyone. The only fighting he ever did was when he sparred with other lions in the arena. He didn't even get to fight when he was out reaving. It just wasn't fair!

But what was that?! A roar. A bellowing roar! Oh, frabjous day!

"Callooh! Callay!" he cackled gleefully as he raced through the foliage, completely forgetting about his self-imposed proscription against green and his left side in his eagerness to be the first reaver to answer the challenge. It was his turn!

"I got this!" he called, just in case there were any other reavers around thinking about taking on this challenge. "I got it!"

And then he came upon the lion who had apparently roared and he wondered if he did, in fact, have it. The lion was huge, and red, and, well Galning could take him. Probably.

Hinoko hadn't been prepared for the dark-furred lion that burst into view. He'd been half-expecting a giant, burly lion with broad shoulders, scars littering his pelt. Hinoko had not been expecting this pale-maned lion who looked as though he'd just recently come off of his mother's teat.

It was something of a letdown, should anyone ask Hinoko later how this challenge had gone.

"I've got you," Hinoko said smoothly, an instant before he made his first leap towards the lion. Perhaps it was the pure fatigue that made his muscles feel weak and atrophied, or perhaps it was the lack of sleep that put him off his game. Hinoko, aiming for the other lion's face, fell short. He'd be lucky if the blow landed at all, truth be told.

Oh, that was good! Galning was impressed with the suddenness of his opponent's attack, but he was even more impressed by how quickly he had come up with a rejoinder to Galning's confident declaration that he had this. But, of course, a clever tongue was more useful for licking arseholes than fighting.

He didn't flinch away from the attack. Instead it seemed much braver to simply plow into the other lion, since he barely had time to stop before the attack happened anyway. Technically, Galning supposed running into someone could be considered an attack, and since he thought of it before impact, he was going to call it an attack, and not a brake failure.

"Hraagh!" he cried, wishing he could remember that thought about tongues and arseholes, but it had been fleeting and it was already gone. Pity. He was sure it had been at least as good as whatever his fiery opponent had said. He couldn't really remember that, either, since he was going into battle mode.

One eye began to twitch.

Ouch. A hit to the pride, and quite the solid hit to his chest. Hinoko wasn't pleased with how this was turning out. His opponent seemed fond of making the most ungodly sounds. It unsettled Hinoko, who set his shoulders and dug his claws into the ground to prevent himself from flailing backward. A heavy hit, though not an honest attack. Usually Hinoko did not find himself fond of speaking when he was sparring, but he couldn't help himself.

That, and the erratic twitching of the other lion's eye was a little unsettling.

"Come now," Hinoko growled silkily once he'd stopped the backwards momentum, pressing forward into his opponent's face. His mouth opened with a quick snap - whether he made contact or not would depend on how fast the white-maned male could move. Best to finish this quickly, win or lose. Hinoko was not comfortable around the other lion.

"I'm gonna bring it!" Galning said, a master of the non sequiter. "Haaaajah!"

If asked specifically whether he made gods-awful sounds because of their effect in battle, Galning would have answered that of course he did. In truth, he was just a noisy lion, and when he got excited he got noisier. The same went for his eye twitching. The other one would probably start bugging out any moment now.

Twitch. Sproing! There it was.

He ducked his head, tucking his chin to his mane and chest and flattening his ears to his skull to keep them from being accidentally ripped off. This way, if they were ripped of, he would know it was on purpose. For all the good that would do him without ears. He hoped that didn't happen.

But it very nearly did! If he hadn't scrambled backward at just the right moment, that other lion might've bitten his nose off!

"Harumph!" Galning exclaimed. "Watch this!"

He planted his hind paws in the dirt and continued moving his front paws backward until the four formed a neat line, and then he jettisoned himself straight up in the air, twisting around about eighty degrees before beginning his descent, claws flailing.

Hinoko paused for a long moment, watching his opponent with a steady glare. He had no idea what to expect, honestly. It would probably be best to just get this over with, Hinoko reminded himself. He watched the other lion closely, stepping cleanly to the side as claws came flailing in his general direction.

"Is this my challenge," Hinoko commented smoothly, looking concerned. If he really had to fight this probably mentally-challenged lion, he would do it, but Hinoko wasn't big on picking on those who were ah... impaired.

Eye-twitches and all.

Once the other lion landed, Hinoko moved hesitantly closer, lifting up a rather massive paw with every intent on sending it crashing into his opponent's face.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:02 pm

"It is," Galning said between gasped breaths. That landing hadn't worked out as planned. Thanks to the red lion moving, it had ended up as more of a belly flop. Not his most graceful moment.

"I'm Skremmende Galning," he said as he watched the other lion move closer.

Until the paw moved toward his face he waited in a crouch on his belly, grinning up at his opponent. He was enjoying this, even though he wasn't doing very well at it. For whatever reason he just wasn't berserking properly, and he didn't tend to win fights when he didn't berserk. Didn't often win them when he did, either, unless his opponent fled or collapsed.

At the last moment he rolled between the attacking paw and its owner's body, evading the attack and drawing up short at his other paw. Not quite how he'd intended to do things, but he could work with this. If he stood up quickly enough, he could knock into the other lion's chin. That hurt, he knew from experience.

So he gathered his feet beneath him and shoved upward.

Hinoko was far too amused by the lion that he was sparring with. This was supposed to be a serious thing, and yet Hinoko couldn't stop his muzzle from twitching in a grin. Such a smile did not come often to Hinoko, and as soon as it spread across his features it was gone, stamped out in annoyance.

Suddenly, stars. Stars floated across his field of vision as Hinoko reeled, having caught the brunt of Galning's upward shove across his lower jaw. Pain arched throughout his body as he stumbled back and shook his head, trying to clear his vision.

"I am Hinoko," he replied, finding the exchange of names to be oddly-timed. With blurry vision and a hunger for revenge, Hinoko covered the distance between himself and Galning with a great leap. Teeth bared, claws unsheathed, and double vision. That's what Hinoko would attest a miss to. Double vision.

Galning really did mean to take this challenge seriously. It wasn't like he wasn't giving it his all. It's just that his all was such an unreliable thing. Some days he was an incredibly, untouchable fighter, and other days he was, well, like today. Getting by mostly on the gods' own luck. It was nice to be so lucky.

For future reference, jaws are more solid than they seem. At least when they come into contact with shoulders at high velocities. But it was nothing he couldn't handle, Galning decided with a wince.

Hinoko, huh? That sounded sort of silly. Maybe he'd find a new name when he made it into the pride. If he made it into the pride. He still had to defeat Galning the Great!

However, Galning the Great was getting tired and he was suddenly finding himself pinned by the red lump. This wasn't how things were supposed to go, he thought as he strove to avoid teeth and claws, too distracted by the immediacy of sharp things being used against him to contemplate the more important matter: getting out from beneath Hinoko.

Though Hinoko would rather take a flying leap from a mountaintop than admit to such a thing, he had to admit to himself that there was a strange sense of pleasure-bordering-on-satisfaction to be had when sitting atop another male. In a non-sexual way, of course. Purely heterosexual in a very cut-and-dry sense. Very cut-and-dry.

Hinoko took a moment to ponder on why it sounded like his inner monologue was trying to convince him. It made him a little irritated, really, and Hinoko didn't know why his thoughts had taken such a turn to begin with.

Hefting up his considerable weight before slamming himself back down atop Galning, Hinoko gave a hearty grunt.

"Do you yield?" Hinoko certainly hoped so. As soon as he was accepted into the pride he was going to find the first female that looked at him, and after making sure she was of suitable rank to be used and abused, Hinoko was going to reassert himself as a male. A strong, manly male.

It was awkward to see what was going on what with his one eye twitching, the other bugging out, and both being hit. However, Galning was not too distracted to notice that there had been a momentary lull in the attacks and then a body slam that felt uncomfortably like...

No. ******** no. Rather, no ********! Galning was not into that. And maybe Hinoko was, and Galning didn't really care because that meant more girls for him, but he was not going to play the girl.

"Do that again," he hissed, now truly in a temper, "and you will lose the bits under your tail."

His one eye was bugging more than ever and the other twitching so that you'd think he wouldn't be able to see out of it at all without a strobe-light effect. At the same time he shimmied so that the toes of one hind paw could push upward against the bits he'd threatened, claws extended in serious warning.

Hinoko did not hesitate to disengage himself from the other lion. It was kind of awkward how this had all ended up, but Hinoko wasn't going to allow himself to feel out-of-sorts. In fact, maybe if he could turn the situation around and act like he had no idea what Galning was talking about, it would take some of the heat off of himself.

"I have no idea what you speak of," Hinoko growled, "But I assure you, little lion, that I was in no way attempting to make any designs on your manhood. Or your... yes, your man.. liness."

This was just turning out to be more than a little much for one lion to handle. Time to get back to the real meat of the matter, the reason that Hinoko was here in the first place.

"I seek entry into the pride. Do you yield, or must I beat you down once more?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2012 9:55 am

Ru slithered to his feet, tail down and definitely covering his manhood, just in case. It didn't matter what Hinoko said at this point. He was convinced that he had nearly been a victim of rape. The idea of going back into battle and possibly ending up...beaten down was unappealing. Particularly if it ended up as he feared it might.

"You win this battle," he said carefully. "But that's all."

This was not how things were supposed to have gone at all. He knew he was a sexy beast, with at least two female conquests to prove it, but at the same time he did not wish to be another male's conquest. That wasn't even flower-blooded that was...he didn't know.

He shot Hinoko a very suspicious look. Maybe he wouldn't tell anyone about this challenge. Ever. He'd just pare it down to the bare bones: he hadn't won. Which reminded him...there were words he was supposed to say. He was supposed to welcome his brother to the pride.

Ugh. Did he have to? He really didn't want to call this queer lion "brother." But that's what it meant to win a challenge. If only he hadn't already granted Hinoko victory!

"Welcome to the Stormborn...brother," he said sullenly. Then he sighed and decided he might as well make the best of things. "Follow me. I'll take you to the stronghold. But don't look at my butt!"

Hinoko snorted. Up until the end, that whole challenge thing had gone pretty well. It was a good thing it was finally over.

"Take me to the females," Hinoko stressed, intimating that he would need at least one or three before he was sated. "And I assure you, Galning, I have no interest in your a**."

No interest whatsoever.
