Rewinding time is impossible for mere mortals. An event, once occurred, cannot be revoked. But for many people there is an acceptable alternative: drowning the memory in alcohol. Isaac, nursing his fourth beer of the night, was a firm proponent of the method.
It took a long time of aimless wandering before he stumbled across the place, a dive full of uncomfortably tall stools, dark wood, and booze. Lots of it. Which was the most important part.
As twilight turned into evening the early crowd began to arrive, filling the bar with warm bodies and conversation to overhear. That suited Isaac just fine. Instead of thinking about the time-bomb in his pocket or the trouble waiting for him at the ship, he could try to decipher the local gossip or just let the wave of voices wash through his mind. Being around people, listening to them in person rather than over the radio, felt...nice.

Tien had wandered in with the recently arrived throng of people. She decided to forego a full guise, instead only vanishing her wings so they wouldn't be a hindrance. Besides, these mortals knew of the gods; they lived practically on their doorstep after all! She weaved her way to the bar, wondering where to sit when she spotted Isaac. He appeared to be alone and well on his way to drunkenness. Perhaps he might make for fun company! Even if he wasn't at the very least neither would be drinking alone.
She settled herself onto the bar stool next to him and leaned against the counter. "Evening, here by yourself?" Her gaze flicked over to Isaac as she spoke. For the most part she looked like any average female you might find in such an establishment. The only thing that might seem odd is the black tatted mask she wore.

Someone else would join the pair at the bar, but Laurence had no intention of engaging anyone here in conversation. He had little experience with drinking, but he was looking for a bit of relief. What better way to stop thinking than to get himself intoxicated to the point where thinking was too hard to deal with? He murmured something vague to the bartender, attempted to knock back a shot, and had to press a fist to his lips to try and fail to stifle his coughs. It burned, and his eyes were watering faintly by the time he finished.
Wisely, Shuo Huang Zhe said nothing, but he could feel the dragon practically brimming with amusement. His face was burning almost as much as his throat, soon enough, and the priest glowered at the shot glass as though it had betrayed him.

The first stranger's friendliness surprised Isaac, but he quickly put on a grin and gestured to indicate that the stool was free. He could use the company, he thought. Some nice, normal, human(ish) interaction. "Yes, but you're free to change that. Can I get you anything?" he asked. The black mask caught his eye - maybe she was planning to head to a masquerade later; something to ask about if he got tired of the bar setting.
Then another stranger marched in and downed a shot without as much as a nod. Isaac's eyes flickered over him during his coughing fit. Seems like the fellow had a burning desire to get drunk as soon as possible. Maybe he also had something he wanted to blot out?
Isaac had an internal struggle - leave the man to wallow in his misery, or try to commiserate with someone who'd rather not? - before giving the stranger a brief nod and raising his glass to his lips. "Rough day?" he asked. Misery loves company, after all, especially when it's not yours. He made a mental note to buy the guy something he could handle next time Isaac ordered drinks.

"Mmm...rum maybe?"
She leaned over onto the bar a bit more to see who else had joined them. He seemed a little worse for wear and by his current coughing fit he wasn't accustomed to whatever it was he had decided to drink. "Think he'll be alright?" The inquiry was directed at Isaac, even though she studied this other stranger.

It took him a moment for him to realize someone was addressing him, and, after he'd stopped coughing, he lifted his eyes and fixed them upon the other. He seemed to be weighing his options. Was he about to get mocked, or was this an attempt to be friendly? He decided on the former. It'd be a little awkward if he got kicked out of a bar for starting a brawl. "Really rough day." He finally settled on, his voice a bit more hoarse than usual.
Amber eyes slid to the female a bit critically, studying her. He said nothing, though. He could keep himself from being rude if he really tried. Usually. It was easier with women, then men.

"Rum it is!" Isaac cheerfully confirmed, and nodded at the man seated next to them. "Sure, he'll be fine!" He cocked his head toward the dour-faced stranger and directed his next words to him. "Just need another drink to settle down with, right? I recommend this," he said, lifting his beer, "it's not too shabby." And the beer wouldn't be strong enough to cause another coughing fit, he hoped.
He waved at the bartender, who started back down from the other end of the bar, and took another sip of his drink. "So, care to share your stories? What brings you out tonight?" he asked, glancing from one to the other.

"Boredom. Thought I would find something outside my usual scope of company." Tien would leave that for them to take as they would. She slide off her stool, moving to one between Laurence and Isaac instead. It would be easier to see and talk to them both now. "What made your day so rough, stranger?"

((So sorry for the late reply, you two. x__x)) Laurence only offered a curt nod to cover his ignorance. He couldn't have told someone the difference between rum and beer if he'd tried. The man seemed upbeat enough, but he felt awkward and out of place in this sort of situation, rolling his shoulders stiffly as though that would somehow ease his tension. "Thanks," He finally said after a beat, not quite shifting, but trying to focus his attention elsewhere until he could get his bearings back. "It's been a long couple of weeks." Laurence said when he was asked, not really planning on revealing just what those weeks held. "Have a lot on my mind."
