It had been...an odd couple of days since Scarentines.

Days where Hel had not spent a lot of time with Mot because of how Scarentines ended. She thought things felt…awkward…and apparently she seemed to be the cause of it. She had also spent those couple of days thinking. Thinking and talking to Shun as well. She had happened to run into the Grim quite a few times during these past few days…and interesting things happened to say the least.

But now…well…she had something to tell Mot and…she didn’t want it to be awkward anymore. If that tiff they had from the gender bending episode meant anything…Hel got miserable spending too much time away from Mot and now was no exception. Dare she say…that she felt like she needed to…apologize. Mot seemed to like it when she apologized.

Thus the ghoul stood in front of his door, though she didn’t knock right away. She swayed, shifting her weight from foot to foot, her cheeks puffed out. Stubborn she was…and apologizing and getting over awkward situations still didn’t come easy…especially since she couldn’t use her fists when dealing with Mot. She had to use…words. Hel shuddered…and then scowled to herself as she raised a fist and knocked.

Had Mot also been avoiding talking to Hel? Yes, he had. The grim reaper couldn't grasp exactly what went on, as the whole ordeal was a pink haze, but he did remember one thing; he'd accidentally proposed. When his haze at the dance had faded, he'd made a run for it. How could he have done something so stupid! He was a 17 year old boil with no plans for marriage.

None.

Would Hel be upset if he let her down? She would, right? Mot knew he had to be frank with her, but he was so scared to see her heart break.

The knock at the door got his attention. He'd been simply sitting on his floor playing with FooFoo to unwind when it came. He got up and tossed the ball across the room for the Foxfire to chase and then opened the door.

Oh look. Hel.

Mot blushed fiercely, smiling a sort of awkward smile. "H-hi, Hel."

What was that feeling welling up in her chest? Dread. She felt heavier and heavier as she waited, until Mot answered the door, and then her stomach plummeted. Oh Jack. It was time to talk now. Words.

Hel’s face looked like she swallowed a bug. “Hello.” She replied, her tone a bit lame. Come on Hel, you could do this. No running away, face the challenge…she’d rather battle false reapers right now than talk about being rejected. Alas. That probably wasn’t going to happen right now. Hel sigh, and her shoulders sagged for a moment. “I need to use words with you.” She informed him flatly. Oops, that came out a bit awkwardly, but he’d get what she meant. Not even bothering to see if he was busy or get invited in, the ghoul ducked under the boil’s arm and into his room, where she then settled on the floor on her knees and rested her hands on her lap.

The ghoul had her determined face on.

Hel looked awful. Beautiful, but not happy. Her words to him had him double taking. By the time he processed them she was under his arm, past him and on the floor awaiting a conversation. The reaper looked back at her puzzled for a moment longer until he finally shut the door and moved to join her.

He sat in front of her, leaning back on his hands. FooFoo, unable to read the atmosphere in his euphoria of playtime, jumped onto Hel's lap. He dropped the ball on her, wagging his curly tail happily.

"Okay, so.." Mot started, shifting uncomfortably. "Let's talk?"

You know what, FooFoo? Hel liked playing ball too. She liked having something for her hands to do while she was trying to sort through her thoughts. The ghoul’s face was still set and determined, but she gave the FoxFire some pettings before she picked up his ball and tossed it across the room for him to fetch. She rested her hands on her knees then.

Ya.” Hel replied, and then fell silent for a long moment. There was no way to ease into this, and Hel didn’t usually like beating around the bush. She just wanted to get this over with. The reaper glanced up at Mot before staring down at her knees. “I know now you did not mean it.” Ow, her heart. She was never going to be a bride. “…I…I a…a…apologize too.” Getting that word out took a lot of effort. “I should not have harped about it, and I will not, anymore.” Just keep on rolling, Hel. “I am the only one who cares about it here, anyways.” Here meaning Amityville, and maybe she was just a bit bitter about that. “And you know what, Mot? I am over it.” Not really. She wasn’t really over it…but this was her way of dismissing the topic for herself for now…and hopefully for Mot too.

She ventured a glance back up at the cowboil.

FooFoo took off like a bat out of Hell after the ball, yapping loudly. He skidded into a laundry bin before slamming into a wall. The poof was then buried in laundry.

Mot grimaced at her words. She seemed bitter. He knew she didn't mean much of her denial. The fact she apologized without being asked to was rather surprising, and it got Mot wondering what kool-aid she'd drank that day.
Mot should have been satisfied, but he wasn't. While he was not up for marriage, Hel obviously was. Hel was not satisfied. Hel was disappointed.

"I..." Mot stammered, his eyes darted downward and around. "I know you better than that. It meant something to you, and I led you on. I'm so sorry." Mot looked his ghoul in the eyes, looking sheepish in his posture. "You aren't over it, are you..."

Hel was a bit surprised honestly, for two reasons. One, that Mot seemed to be catching onto her, and two, that he apologized…and it was bitter sweet. On one hand it felt nice to hear the apology; on the other hand it didn’t…because it meant she wasn’t marriage material. Sadness. Hel tried to remind herself of that Shun said. A lot of students here didn’t take stock in the idea like she did…and that was no one’s fault.

The reaper caught Mot’s eyes, her lips pulling a bit into a brief, wry smile. Hel could deny, deny, deny with the best of them. “Ya. I am over it.” She replied. “And to show that I am over it, we are not talking about it anymore.” Oh, maybe she was really good at this talking thing! That totally didn’t come out as a denial demand.

But…Mot…” Hel’s brows furrowed. “…Did…did you mean the other things you said?” You know like…the whole be mine forever stuff. Maybe she was setting herself up for more heartbreak…Call Hel a glutton for punishment.

Oh. That sounded rather final. As good as Mot was getting at reading Hel's intentions, he decided not to push that issue.

However, as she seemed to inquire about another issue, the reaper's mind went blank. Maybe it was because Mot was a guy, maybe it was the hazy distance the memory seemed to be in that he could not recall it, but what Mot said next was the truth. "What other things?" He asked innocently, blinking with a tilt of his head.

It was because Hel was a ghoul, and even though they had been in a haze, that she did not forget what they had said. The ghoul’s expression faltered. Did…Did Mot…really forget all her…heartfelt words?

“…O..oh…you know um…” Hel twiddled her thumbs now, trying to act nonchalant about the whole thing, like it wasn’t a big deal. “Be mine forever and…I will have your heart and you will have mine and uh be each other’s forever and ever….and uh…something about eternity too…” Hel looked a bit worried now as she glanced at Mot.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:29 pm

The tense atmosphere was suffocating. Mot's throat felt sore and thick with a bad feeling. "I.. I... said those things...?" Mot turned a bright red, his posture sinking in embarrassment. To think he could be so... so...

His mind could not thumb through his inner thesaurus fast enough to comprehend.

"I...w-well.." How to respond? Hel must have known that they were both under a rather influential status effect back then. How to word this so he didn't break her ghoulish little heart. "I care about you a lot, Hel. Don't misunderstand that part.." He started, digging his nails into the grooves of the floorboards behind him.

"But I do need you to understand we're early in the relationship. I wouldn't be with you if I didn't want us to be closer, but forever isn't a word I feel comfortable using just yet."

Hel’s wings drooped. As did her heart.

She shouldn’t have brought it up.

She remember what Shun said about having Mitsu’s love and knowing he was secure in that…and…well…she didn’t even have that. Someone toss her a life raft she was drowning while she flailed. She had meant everything she said…

Oh.”

Mot didn’t want to marry her, didn’t want to be with her forever…he didn’t even want to touch her all that much…

Inside Hel felt like:

Someone was too overdramatic.

Mot's heart sunk. He'd let her down. Poor Hel. She deserved a boilfriend who was affectionate, attentive and devoted. Mot felt as if he was failing as a significant other. The reaper sighed softly, disheartened and feeling alone. His mind frantically searched for words to make everything better, but his heartache made the process grueling.
Not a single magical word seemed to exist. At least not one Mot was ready to say just yet.

Why didn't he feel as strongly for her, as she did for him? Why could he not make that leap and delve into Love like so many other students around him could? What prevented him from making that deep intimate connection?
He was a horrible, uncaring boil. That's how he felt about himself at that moment.

The reaper frowned deeply, his eyes downcast as did his mood.

Damn it Shun. She was insecure.

Things were painfully awkward now. Damn it. She came here with the intention to make them un-awkward…not worse! Hel’s lips twisted. Okay so…he didn’t mean any of those words on Scarentine’s…ow her heart. But…but he picked her over Lizzy! She reminded herself (but then had that terribly nagging feeling that said Lizy was pining over Mac). Oh…why did she ruin all the things? Freya didn’t need to worry about her breaking him if she ever tupped him. She was breaking him right now.

Sad Hel was sad…but determined to try and smooth things over.

“…It is alright!” Hel suddenly announced. “….It…uh…whatever. It is fine…it…it was a very strange day that day and….and no one was…thinking correctly and…silly things happened…a…and y…ya, we are…way too young to be worried about that.” Thank you for those words Shun.

Just forget about it, alright?”

If Mot happened to look up at that moment, Hel would be gone from in front of him…though soon enough he’d feel her. How she managed to quickly wiggle her way over to his side was amazing. Such skill. The ghoul tentatively leaned her head on his shoulder, quiet for a moment as she stared at the collar of his shirt. He always dressed so nice…even just spending time with his FoxFire…

“…All…those songs say…love is a battle field, ya?” She murmured. "...You know how I feel about battle, Mot."

Hel seemed desperate to smooth it all over. The hesitation in her voice made Mot feel even worse. However, he looked up to see she was no longer in front of him. He furrowed his brow in confusion, but soon found a warmth by his side. That warmth was Hel.

The reaper's features softened, and he leaned his head on hers. "I do. You always fight to your full potential. As will I."

It felt…so nice to be touching him again. He smelled so good and as he leaned his head on hers, she felt a bit better.

“…Y…ya.” She let her head fall on his shoulder more, and a hand came out to hesitantly wrap around his waist. “…So…I am…not giving up on you.” Her voice was oddly soft. “…I will do…whatever it takes…” She wiggled a bit closer to him then, leaning a bit more of her body against him.
