User ImageThe dark clouds were threatening rain and the lone grey wolf knew that it was only a matter of time before they broke. She had been scanning the forest for suitable shelter, but had yet to find any.

It was a pity that she would be losing so much travel time today. Especially since it seemed she would be spending the duration of the storm cooped up in whatever hole she could find alone. Not even a companion with which to weather the storm. No one to coax stories out of or even share a tale with. Such a waste.

Well, it was not as though she did not have tales of her own to refine, or events to consider. She would simply have to make do.

Ah. There. As she nosed aside some vines, her suspicions were confirmed. She had found a den. A quick glance around confirmed what her nose had already informed her: it was empty. Seemed to have been abandoned for some time. It was sizable enough and it would serve her well as she waited for the rain to let up.

So, the lean female made her way to the back of the den and curled up on the cool earth. Just in time, from the sound of it. The rain had started.

The rain did not bother the strong white wolf in the least bit. His sake jug and various human trinkets he had somehow obtained in his wandering clicked and clattered along the sound of the sky falling water. A wispy sigh escaped the large male.

"It is days like this," he rumbled looking up into the deep expanse of greys and mulled blues, "that is am....thankful...for what I am. A being of wind and shadow." He strode forward with his head still held high up as the so-called monster of sorts pushed his way into the darker part of the blooming storm. The flame markings growing up his legs seemed to glow in the dimness of the landscape adding to the wolf's swollen ego and delusion of himself being a divine monster.

A strange scent, not bitter nor sweet to him, wafted through the light breeze that carried the rain at a slant and caught his attention. He scanned the lands for anything that might be lurking in the worsening weather. Though he did not find a living soul, he found a gaping opening in the side of the earth. Shaking water fruitlessly from his coat, he trotted into the yawning opening in the flank of the hill. He didn't spot the dusky female right away as he slunk into the den, but he did catch the fact that the scent grew stonger.

"How strange," he mused to himself as he turned to sit in the den's entrance.

It was impossible to miss the male who joined her in the den. He was large. His pale coat did anything but blend in with the forest. His scent was very distinct, and was only made stronger by the rain wetting his fur. Not to mention the clinking and clanking of the collection of human-things on his person.

Did he even realize she was there?

It did not seem like it, as he settled at the entrance of the den and proceeded to mutter to himself. Senka's crimson eyes gleamed in a flash of lightening, the only thing setting her apart from the gloom at the back of the den.

"What is strange?" she asked. Her voice seemed disembodied, as her coat still hid her in the shadows.

Kazemaru did not even bother to look back. The female had done as he wanted. A smile creeped up on his muzzle.

"How strange you did not confront me as soon as I entered your domain," he chuckled deeply. Tossing his head to the side, he maneuvered his mask into a more favorable position as he surged to his paws in one graceful movement. He turned a bit and to his surprise, a red-eyed grey wolf stared back at him. Without fear. His tail-tip twitched in annoyance. He was supposed to be stunning to the normal eye. Is that not a right of being a (self-proclaimed) god?

"Is this not your den?" he challenged, lips raising into a slim smirk. If she would not show him fear outright in his presence then he would test her resolve. It could prove interesting after all.

As he spoke, she took studied him more closely, from the fire on his fur to his odd choice of decoration. Of a certainty, he was one of the more flamboyant looking wolves she had come across, but he was neither the fiercest looking nor the strangest looking. Still, the overall effect was not unpleasant. Ah, but that was neither here nor there.

Reading the challenge in his voice and eyes, Senka laughed inwardly. Such a proud male. He wanted to play, did he? Well, it would certainly be a better way to pass the time than napping. Maybe she would even get a tale of two out of it. Worth a try, at least.

"Is your nose damaged?" she wondered aloud, laughter in her eyes. "Could you not tell that I have only just found this place?" Really, the strength of her scent - or lack thereof - in the earthen hollow ought to tell him that much.

"Since you have to ask, I can only assume that you are merely passing through the area, as I am. Tell me. Do your travels have a purpose?"

"I assumed you had claimed it as your own, but I see. You are just claiming the shelter it provides," he sighed his cocky grin fading into a more sincere expression. He moved his pale red obi out of the way and sat on his haunches staring right into the other's strange eyes. He was asked a question that made the feathered fur on the end of his tail bush in a surge of nervous energy.

"My travels," he rumbled as if deep in thought, "are due to another. A worshiper of mine. The reason I have come to this plain. He taught me humanity of sorts...and I seek to shove it down his neck. What does a god of the four winds need with such a trait? The south wind has no need to be empathetic." He snorted his displeasure and adverted his golden eyes from the female. Though he was a (self-proclaimed) god of the south wind, he still held a child-like love for the wolf who molded him into the being he was.

"What is the meaning behind your travels?"

"I am a storyteller," she replied absently. "The purpose of my quest is to collect tales to add to my collection."

She was much more interested in what this male had to say. The way he spoke was rather unusual. In all of her meetings, coming across one who believed himself to be a god was very rare. In fact, she had met only one other who might qualify as having such delusions, though whether or not the madwoman realized that she was mortal or not was up for debate.

But this male. Even from this little bit that he had said, Senka could tell his tale would be interesting. Well worth collecting. Any ambitions he might have of revenge did not worry her. She had dealt with far more volatile wolves than this. No. She would ask her questions and lead him where she could. Of course, this encounter was bound to prove entertaining, even if he did not cooperate.

"A worshiper of yours?" she inquired. "You say you are a god?"

"I am the south wind's body," the wolf bluntly explained, "I chase away the cold and the frost and bring warmth to the winds as I go. I am the summer, the heat, the light. I am companion to the sun as I walk in the light offered to me. I am a god wrapped in fur." Kazemaru's golden eyes flashed with the lightening that decided to streak the sky at the end of the white wolf's rant. He stood before the female, chest pushed out in confidence of the claims he had made.

"Hmm..." came the noncommittal reply. She did not believe him to be a god, but confronting him on that matter would do no good. At best, they would simply argue uselessly. At worst, he might become violent. Still, it was interesting that he considered himself such. His powers of denial must be strong.

"This follower of yours must be quite the wolf, to compel one such as yourself to seek him so," she hedged, scenting a story worth hearing.
