Name: Leah
Age: 11
Region: Johto
Description: Leah is pretty normal for her age, growing taller but not developing fully yet. She has fair skin that freckles easily (and will burn if she’s out in the sun too long), green eyes, and red hair. When she’s not in her kimono outfit, she can typically be found in knee-length skirts and cute shirts trimmed in lace, wearing sandals if the weather’s right. Sometimes she wears sun hats too, keeping her hair in low pigtails under it. She really likes elegant dresses too, but does not own any herself.
Personality: Leah does her best to stay cheerful and make others smile, no matter how tough things are. She leans towards being optimistic and is definitely kind. However, she is currently shy around strangers, especially if no one she knows is around. She gets very apologetic when nervous, even if she’s don’t nothing wrong; she also goes quiet or hesitates to talk, especially if the stranger is a man. Leah can warm up to new people quickly if someone she knows act positively towards them, but she does trust other people’s words and opinions a little too easily.
She admires Cynthia a lot and tries to be like her. She’s already shown herself to be pretty talented in Pokémon training and is very close to her Pokémon. When she works with them, she tries to do what would make the Pokémon happy, so she has them out whenever she can and cheers them on in battle as much as she orders them. Aggressive Pokémon scare her, but she still tries to be nice to them. She finds them a little easier to get along with than people, but not enough that she would totally ignore others in favor of Pokémon.
History: When she was a little girl, Leah’s grandmother often told her that she was a little ray of sunshine in a rough place. She liked to hear that and did her best to be like that, but she didn’t realize what the other side of that statement was. Her parents had a love and hate relationship that seemed equally strong in both directions, being in a screaming argument one day and being sickeningly sweet on each other the next. As such, Leah ended up spending more time at her grandmother’s home than her own.
But her grandmother died when Leah was eight. She had told the girl to keep on shining and look forward to the time when she could become a Pokémon Trainer and be on her own at age ten. Although she was sad, Leah took her words to heart and tried to keep smiling, as well as studying about Pokémon. It wouldn’t work out, though, as Omega took over Johto well before she was old enough to qualify. That set off more arguments at home, as her father liked Omega’s policies and her mother didn’t.
One day, Leah’s mother gave her a bag and told her to get some things in it and leave town. Leah was confused by this, but her mother would only give hasty explanations, that she was worried about what he would do to get a high ranking position. So Leah left her hometown, not sure what she was going to do and unable to get a Pokémon to keep her company, as well as protect her.
The next few weeks were hard on Leah, as she had to avoid wild Pokémon and beg for help. Most people ignored her. But after spending a few days in Ecruteak, Cynthia noticed her and invited her to stay at the Dance Hall before a stormy night. Since a ten-year-old on her own didn’t have much she could do these days, Leah agreed to join the Kimono Girls and work with them. While she got an Eevee secretly as part of their tradition, Cynthia also passed on her Eevee to Leah, saying that she had plenty of Pokémon to work with at the time. Leah has worked hard to do well ever since, still being a ray of sunshine in a dark time.
