DAPHNE RAY Civilian Reporter Daphne tapped her heal against the hard wood floor in rhythm with the music playing faintly over the speakers tucked discreetly around the posh restraint. She swirled the water in her wine glass and wished that she could order something a little stiffer before her “date” got here. As it was she was here on business, so she should probably avoid getting too buzzed.
In the last few months there had been a series of abductions from events hosted by Crantel!Match online dating service. All of the girls who had been taken had curly brown hair and blue eyes, and none of them had turned up again yet. Dead or otherwise. The police were doing their best to catch this criminal, but thus far their efforts were proving futile.
So here was Daphne, perched on a stool at the bar, waiting for her Crantel!Match provided date, with her blond hair disguised by a curly brown wig.

Hack swallowed nervously and reminded himself for the fifth time that night that this was not a date. Nope, he was going undercover to track down what he suspected was either a serial killer or kidnapper. His news feed for the Crantel area in the past month had been displaying some suspicious patterns: girls with similar physical traits attending events hosted by some dating agency had simply vanished without a trace.
SO. He'd taken it upon himself to investigate this further (or rather, Cap had dropped him a number and asked that he looked into it since that was "your area right? Great thanks!"). And what better way to investigate than to personally attend one of the events... right?
Right. So the date was just a cover for his modus operandi. That was all. This was business, and hopefully the lady would not fall in love with him at first sight.
Hack adjusted his shirt collar again and looked around for his "date". He'd purposely picked a girl with brown hair and blue eyes, just in case she was whisked away by the mystery kidnapper. Of course, there were some other minor details like him hacking into the system to get paired with this... Daphne Ray, and that he'd picked her because her (private) profile picture was kind of pretty, but HEY, it was for the sake of the mission.
He finally spotted her sitting at the bar, looking bored. He wasn't that late, was he?
Putting on his best grin, Hack made his way across the floor and approached the lady at the bar.
"Hi, are you Ms Daphne Ray? I'm Ha-- uh, Matt Travis."

Daphne was just about to take another sip from her glass of wine when she heard her name being spoken by someone behind her. She turned around on her stool, carefully not to let the pretty little sundress she was wearing ride up her knees. A carefully practiced bashful smile crossed her lips as she looked up at her date. “That would be me. Very nice to meet you, Matt.”
One of the waiters behind the bar took this moment to interrupt their little conversation. “Is this who you’ve been waiting for miss?” He asked, and then gestured to one of the hostesses. “I ask, because your table just became available.”
Daphne grinned at the kid and nodded her thanks. She looked back up at Mr Travis. Now that she had had a minute to look at him she was rather pleased to notice that he was kind of cute. Could be a serial killer though, so don’t get too attached, she reminded herself playfully and slipped off the barstool. She didn’t honestly expect her date to be the serial abductor – the two girl’s dates had not been the same person, after all – but really, could she afford to rule anyone out? Hopefully he had a personality to match that smile of his, because if she was going to have to resist clawing her own eyes out to make it through this date she was not going to be pleased. “Shall we?”

A sort of thrill ran up the man's spine when his date faced him for the first time and smiled shyly at him. Jackpot, Hack The Man does it again.
A waiter interrupted their magical moment just then to announce an available table. Hack forgave him after the pretty girl slipped off the bar stool with another dazzling smile.
"Shall we?"
"Of course," he replied most smoothly, offering an arm in the process.
As they made their way towards their table, Hack's eyes roved around the area. Several couples were already seated, each one chatting happily and gazing into each others' eyes like lovestruck teenagers. No suspicious looking characters so far. He needed the restaurant's guest list for tonight... and a quick glance revealed that a computer at a different reception area was located most inconveniently at the far end of the room.
Well in that case...
"So, Ms Ray," Hack drawled, quickly shifting so that one arm was suddenly wrapped around her shoulders, and then proceeded to steer her about 270 degrees away from their original trajectory. "Do you go on these dating things often?"
Of course, it didn't occur to him that it was a rather rude question, or that he was being too forward (as usual). But Hack really needed that guest list.

((LOL I took some liberties with the room and such, I hope that's ok!))
