Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Ofelia had heard about this 'training' thing from a few hunters lounging around here and there an, given the fact she was the type who wanted to try something no matter what and she really wanted adventure, she looked around to find where a Sunnie could learn a bit more of their craft. She wasn't all that good at using Rue, seeing as she'd gotten her a** handed to her by two people and that damned zombie-thing had nearly taken her down, so the teen wanted to get better.
Supposed the 'Shadow Run' was one of the fastest and easiest ways to get better at something, seeing as it involved punching and was made almost specifically to train sun hunters (also none of her friends were here, where did everyone go) Ofelia went and decided she'd give it a shot. There were simple enough instructions for her to follow and read so, she summoned Rue, and braced herself.
Her a** got ran over almost instantly and that kinda sucked.Status Wave: #1 Attack Dmg: - Total Shadowlings taken out: - Recoveries left: 1 [ used ]

Maybe it was because Ofelia had a OMG I AM NOT GOING TO DIE LIKE THIS attitude or maybe it was because she went down swinging, but either way she somehow or another managed to kick a few of the things off and recover. It was like she got her second wind and that was really nice, she wasn't ready to die just yet even though those damn things hurt her and her ears were ringing. A few more waves needed to happen in order for her to successfully pass this thing (and maybe learn something) and so Ofelia bashed the sides of her hands together.
All in all she took out a small number of those creatures, not nearly enough. Sun hunters were supposed to get bragging rights from surviving this thing, right? Ofelia didn't really like to brag but she certainly didn't mind having something to properly boast about either.Status Wave: #1 Attack Dmg: 7 Total Shadowlings taken out: 7 Recoveries left: 0

Somehow she'd managed to survive, somehow she'd managed to put a decent chunk into the monsters. Ofelia was feeling pretty confident, not to mention that Rue was somewhat enjoying how everything was going.
Training like this seemed good for the teen, if anything at all, and she stretched her arms while she waited for the third wave to begin.Rown Status Wave: #2 Attack Dmg: 6 Total Shadowlings taken out: 13 Recoveries left: 0

Her attacks weren't as strong as she wanted them to be, mostly because Ofelia was getting tired faster than she thought she would. Perhaps it was crazy for her to attempt this course on her own?
Rue chided her in her head, calling her a coward for thinking she needed help. Ofelia had Rue and therefore had all she needed, plus it would do the teen some good to have her a** handed to her a few times.
Ofelia didn't like the sound of that.Status Wave: #3 Attack Dmg: 4 Total Shadowlings taken out: 17 Recoveries left: 0

Perhaps she'd gotten too cocky, perhaps she should have been paying better attention and used the FEAR charge like Rue had been demanding. Either way Ofelia was overwhelmed by the sheer number of shadowlings.
Rue was knocked from her hands and quickly desummoned herself, cursing about how she wasn't going to allow herself to be touched by any of the filthy things without her own opinion being involved. That left Ofelia all on her own...and she blacked out before she even really hit the ground.Status Wave: #4 Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 17 Recoveries left: 0

ATTEMPT TWO
Call it stupidity or something else, but no sooner had Ofelia been released from the labs with a clean bill of health then she found herself back in the shadow run tunnel. Her loss last time had left her pissed off and embittered, not to mention Rue had nagged her until the sun came up and went down.
She was going to complete a run, even if it killed her (it wouldn't since people were watching) and when the first set came Ofelia pounded them into the ground without any hesitation.Status Wave: #1 Attack Dmg: 6 Total Shadowlings taken out: 6 Recoveries left: 1

s**t s**t s**t they were everywhere! Perhaps Ofelia wasn't as recovered as she thought she was, for as soon as she went to make a move she was swarmed again. A lucky strike from using Rue sent a few of them scattered off but it was too late, she was covered.
Flailing did knock a few more away but. . . .Status Wave: #2 Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 6 Recoveries left: 0

And then Ofelia went down, covered and kicking and screaming. She was vaguely aware of the hunters who came and kicked the shadowlings off her, and she was entirely unaware of the one who lifted her into his arms and carried her off to the ward again.
They were mumbling something under their breath about her stupidity for trying again, but none of it hit Ofelia's ears. All she could think about was how she was going to have her revenge as soon as she could stand again.Status Wave: #2 [recovery!] Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 6 Recoveries left: 0

ATTEMPT THREE
This was it, third time was always the charm right? Ofelia had given the trial a wide berth for all of a few days, planning her revenge and setting things right. She'd failed twice before, almost having completed it the first time, and now she was coming back for revenge.
Rue was instantly summoned as soon as she entered the room and right away two creatures were taken down with a single, powerful hit. She wasn't going to lose anymore, not to this stupid trial run. Ofelia was stubborn and relentless - once her mind was made up on something she was going to see it through no matter what happened.
As for the weapon....Rue sort of admired that stupidity about Ofelia. A desire to never give up often lead people to early graves and she approved whole-heartedly.Status Wave: #1 Attack Dmg: 2 Total Shadowlings taken out: 2 Recoveries left: 1

The second wave started and Ofelia moved like water, paying attention to where each and every creature was coming from. Before she had only focused on what was in front of her, not around her, and this time she kept both her hands and her feet constantly moving. Kicking some creatures here and there allowed them to be knocked back, giving her a chance to strike.
Her fists and her kicks worked together to take down seven or so of them, her total already so much better than her previous attempt. Everything seemed to be going so well!Status Wave: #2 Attack Dmg: 7 Total Shadowlings taken out: 9 Recoveries left: 1

They came from her left and from her right, but Ofelia wasn't ready to just go down. She was feeling energetic, she was feeling proud of herself for making it to a third round without trying to ask for help, or without having to flail and kick and scream.
As her fists (and Rue) connected with each successive hit she could feel her weapon start to charge up, and soon enough Rue was moaning with the desire to be set free and tear into the shadows that kept converging upon the pair. Ofelia promised her that she would let her play this time and not hold her back.Status Wave: #3 Attack Dmg: 10 Total Shadowlings taken out: 19 Recoveries left: 1

Ofelia kept her promises and as soon as she was able she looked to the group that approached and grinned, widely. Rue let out a scream in her head, followed by a deathly and chilling cackle. The pair charged into the swarm as the knuckledusters glowed brighter and brighter.
When the attack was done creatures lay scattered at her feet, pieces of them littering the area. They were not done, they had more to go, and Ofelia moved again into another defensive posture.Status Wave: #4 Attack Dmg: 16 Total Shadowlings taken out: 35 Recoveries left: 1

The fifth wave had arrived and with it a badge of success. Ofelia had been told she only needed to complete five waves in order to consider the training complete, but her stubbornness and desire to beat the s**t out of all these creatures kept her going as she stayed in place.
There would be no running forward, not until she was entirely satisfied with what she'd done or until the creatures took her down again. Rue agreed, wanting to taste more and more of their delicious FEAR and flesh.Status Wave: #5 Attack Dmg: 6 Total Shadowlings taken out: 41 Recoveries left: 1
