In a pride that tended to whites and greys, blacks and browns, purple was fairly distinctive. This was good, because given Avahk's less than stellar ability to identify lions he wasn't exposed to regularly, he would have had a difficult time finding Fuu otherwise. But now he'd found the big purple lion doing whatever it was that big purple lions did. Walking around the pride, sometimes talking to people. Avahk was peering over a convenient rock at Fuu, watching his every move. He didn't understand everything that the adult was doing, but he would! He'd watch and watch until he understood everything! After all, he'd decided on the day Mom brought them to the Mwezi'Johari that he'd be like Fuu when he was older. He hadn't told her or Dad of those plans, he'd just snuck out to put them into action.

With all the trouble Fuu seemed to find when he strayed far from home, he was most decidedly staying closer to the dens nowadays- not that he really minded it, he enjoyed being in the middle of the pride, keeping an eye on the goings-on closer to the heart of everything. Unfortunately for him, not much was going on around him so he was making things to do.
He was walking along a familiar route, keeping his eyes open for signs of certain plants he had learned were important, watching for changes in the well worn paths and for signs of anything interesting going on. Truthfully, he wasn't quite sure how to fill his day without Selene around when he stuck so close to home but.. Selene was busy or something.
He wasn't sure about that, either.
He had no idea his little walkabout was being observed and he slowly got closer and closer to where Avahk was perched, watching.

As the purple lion passed his hiding place, the cub slipped out and began to follow Fuu. As he began walking, Avahk tried to be stealthy and silent. It didn't work too well.
Instead, he watched how his quarry walked and slowly, with many mistakes, began to copy it. If he wanted to be like Fuu, obviously he had to start by walking like him!

The moment Avahk hit the ground, Fuu was aware of something being nearby- a quick glance around didn't give it away, so he kept moving.. and heard whatever it was follow him. Raising a brow, he glanced around again, trying not to be very obvious about it but there was only so much you could do to hide looking behind you.
He spotted Avahk on his second look-over and his eyes hesitated on the cub before he realized what exactly was happening and then he quickly turned back around to keep looking ahead as he walked.
How very interesting.
Hmmmmm.

Avahk saw Fuu's head tilting one way and the other real fast, so he did the same. He saw...the pride. Same as it had been (though perhaps with more cubs than before, that's what someone had said in his hearing).
But...maybe the purple lion didn't see the pride the same way as he did? No! He had to see it how Fuu did! So the grey cub kept mimicking the adult's walk and posture and started looking around.
He saw dens. Not surprising, a lot of lions lived here. He also saw lions. Some in the dens, some soaking up the sun outside, some going places, some talking to others, some doing things he couldn't determine.
And Fuu was just walking. So Avahk walked too.

If he was going to have a little shadow, Fuu figured it would be best to make the most of it. He could use a laugh and while he wasn't sure what little Avahk was getting out of this, he could try to make it more fun for him, too. So he changed his path, taking himself off the well-worn path many lions often followed and going off in a random direction.
And then another random direction, changing his path almost entirely but being careful not to make it so he turned back around on Avahk. It wouldn't be nearly as much fun if the cub figured out he wasn't going anywhere in particular yet.
Then he began to lift his legs higher, stepping with greater care- starting slowly but speeding up as he went.

Ah-ha! Now they were going somewhere! Avahk noticed that until now they'd been sticking to the well-worn trails much of the pride walked daily. Now, however, Fuu was going away from those and in a direction that contained fewer lions, dens and other things. The cub gazed around alertly, trying to determine just where it was they were going-
-and Fuu changed direction again! Well, Avahk was a Tracker Extraordinare, and no way was he going to let the purple lion leave him behind! No siree, he was going to stick to Fuu like a burr and not let him out of his sight as he walked the same paths, in the same way-
-but what was this? Fuu was walking differently now! Maybe...maybe there was one way for walking in front of people and another for when there were fewer people? Maybe THAT was what made him a Lord? Avahk couldn't be sure, but he faithfully replicated this new style of walking. He didn't yet notice that the adult lion was getting further ahead of him.

Fuu would have loved to be able to turn around and see that Avahk was mimicking him exactly but he could hear the way his steps changed-- not that he could blame him for that, Fuu was making a fair bit of noise himself now, this wasn't a quiet way to walk.
He kept walking like that, changing directions every once in a while to keep things interesting. They made their way toward the waterhole, one of the main conveniences of staying near the central lands. With a smile, Fuu waded into the shallow water.

They were walking and they were walking like Lords and Avahk was so proud! He could do this! He really could! And there was no sign at all that Fuu knew he was here! The grey cub was so excited he almost roared his happiness aloud.
But he didn't because he didn't want the purple lion to know he was here and because his baby roars sounded, well, like a baby. It was embarrassing, but that was all he had at the moment.
Avahk was so caught up in his thoughts that he almost didn't notice when Fuu started wading into the watering hole.
Oh no. Oh NO. Did Fuu know he was there? Or maybe there was something wrong with being a Lord? No one in their right mind would willingly take a bath! Avahk mewled in panic before turning tail and running back to the den. No way was he going to take a bath, not even to follow Fuu!

Hearing Avahk's panicked cry, Fuu turned around- just in time to watch him scrambling away. He shook his head and chuckled to himself. It was disappointing he hadn't gotten a chance to splash him but that was very interesting. Why on earth would one of Yareha's cubs be following after him? He hadn't seen them since they day they were dropped off with their father.
Still smiling, Fuu stepped out of the water and shook off his paws. Feeling a little more cheerful, he headed back to continue on with his day.
Fin!
