Masuda River ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Masuda studied the letter. He was just a young snot in New Bark Town. He didn't have a pokemon even. Well that was until he received a package the next day of what was left to him in his Uncle's Will. A young tyrouge named Jackie. Powerful little devil. But he had to go to Kanto!? That is ridiculous. He collapsed back in his desk chair. He had a duty to his family. The bigger problem would be getting there. The only way over was the S.S. Anne. He walked out of his house. He had no family, he lived alone. He had no one to say goodby to. Suddenly the kooky professor, professor Skotz (before Elm some one owned the lab, and this is back way to far for it to be Elm since Elm is pretty young). Masuda rolled his eyes. He wasn't fond of him, Skotz was. "Mr. River! Mr. River! Check this out!" The old feeble man, who better belonged in a retirement home or possibly in a grave (he was easily 100) Carried an impossibly heavy gauntlet with him. He slammed it on Masuda's wrist without care, "Its my new invention!" Masuda jumped back instantly. the last invention briefly liquified him, he wasn't taking any chances. "Calm down sir! I call it a poketracker. It keeps track of the pokemon you have seen. I have been trying to count pokemon but it is just so hard. So I figured, give the work to you. It doesn't have any data or anything, but it will have a little number readout on top." Masuda tried to get it off but it was stuck, "What!?" Masuda shook his arm but nearly broke it with the massive gauntlet. The crazy old man said, "Well it will come off automatically after 15 pokemon have been seen. That is as many as I can think of." Masuda backed away from the crazy man. He was not well. He might need to make a detour and find Mr. Oak to try to convince him to retire or at least get some mental help. He quickly scanned the Tyrouge.

Sabrina strolled over to Masuda's house. She held a sleepy Abra in her arms as if it was a teddy bear, it was her first pokémon and she was heading over to her rival to brag about it. She stopped when she saw the boy being accosted by a crazy old professor and waited, watching behind a tree until the old man went away. Sabrina frowned as she spotted the Tyrouge that was with Masuda. She had come to brag about her new pokémon and was angry to see that he had one as well, she would have to find other ammunition. Sabrina approached him, moving quietly while he was distracted looking at something. "Still using your fists instead of your brain Masuda?" She asked suddenly and looked down at his pokémon. "Looks like you have a pokémon to reflect that now too." She added coldly, turning her nose up at it.

Masuda River ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Masuda jumped when Sabrina began to talk. He hadn't see her approach. "Don't do that!" He turned and looked at her. His long time rival, now holding a pokemon of her own. No doubt she was sore that they were equal once more. Jackie took offense. The young tyrouge prided itself on being an intellectual as far as he was concerned. "RO! RO RO RORORORORORO!" he hollered causing a small scene in the town. Masuda blushed fiercely while everyone tuned to see him at the middle of this confrontation. He whispered angrily at Jackie, "What are you doing! Your making a scene!" The little hellion wasn't done. As it had recently rained he used vacuum wave on a puddle nearby and splash muddy water all over Sabrina. Masuda stepped back, "Sorry! Honest! I didn't want him to do that!" He was smiling on the inside though. He couldn't help but feel this was going to lead to a battle.

Sabrina looked at the pokémon ranting at her with a cocked eyebrow. She closed her eyes as the water splashed towards her using her psychic powers to try and stop the water from touching her. It didn't work as well as she hoped though as she didn't react in time. She wiped her face with the back of her sleeve. "You will regret that." She growled. Abra jumped forward as Sabrina let him go. "Use psychic." She commanded calmly. Abra's eyes glowed and send a wave of psychic energy into tyrouge's mind, knocking it out in one.

Masuda River ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Masuda cringed, afraid that Sabrina might attack him in retaliation. It wasn't outside of her personality, especially with their relationship the way it was. She, at times, when she was mad enough, would use her natural abilities to put disturbing images in his brain as a form of terrible evil prank. Not to say Masuda didn't deserve the retaliation, but none the less he was sure she was going to hit him. Instead Jackie fell over. Masuda, though a little relieved, felt a massive rush of anger. He ran over to his fallen friend and checked his pulse. He was out cold, nearly injured beyond a knockout. Masuda tried to calm himself before he would say something he would regret, but he was running to hot. He glared at Sabrina and said angrily, "Too far." He got up and went to hit her but was stopped by her eyes. Beautiful eyes. Masuda wasn't necessarily attracted to her but it was enough to make him pause. He breathed and cooled himself down. He had almost broken his moral code. He was just fed up with being second always. He lowered his fist and walked away, returning Tyrouge. He was boiling beneath his skin. He turned around realizing that she was between him and the route he had to go to. He tried walking by her without even looking at her.

Masuda River ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Once on the route he took out his life savings. Food, a max revive, and assorted pokeballs. He used the max revive and headed out on the route. After a bit of fighting Masuda heard a rustling in the grass nearby. A chirp flew out. Masuda quickly sheilded his pokemon afraid that it might have been a strong flying type but instead a small chick jumped out. It looked strange, and very much out of place. Masuda studied it. It was a cute little bugger. It belched flames and fried a poor unsuspecting sperow. Masuda laughed, "Wow, you torched that guy. I am going to call you... Torchic (note: most pokemon had not been discovered, especially most of the starters. he may have either accidentally discovered and named the species, or this is a terrible coincidence). Do you like that name?" It responded with "Tor tor chic." Masuda smiled, "I'll take that as a yes. Wanna come with me and this guy." He pointed to Jackie. The torchic nodded ecstatically. "You'll need to travel in a pokeball. is that ok?" "Chi" it nodded yes. "Ok, buddy, how bout I let you pick the pokeball." Masuda dumped out the massive collection of pokeballs he had. Of course, as luck would have it, he picks the Luxury ball. He hit the button himself and tochic joined the party. Masuda walked though the rest of the route, taking down every thing that faced him.

Masuda River ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Masuda walked into the small seaside city. Soft salty sea air wafted up his nostrils. Jackie came out of his pokeball and looked out at the sea. They took a few moments to take in the beauty.

The wonderful peace and silence was interrupted by some colorful shouts, grumbles and a whole lot of splashing that came extremely loudly from the direction of the water. They came from a little girl, who if asked would insist that no, she was not little and she was perfectly capable thank you very much. She was soaked to the bone with her clothes and hair floating wherever they were loose enough to do so, but she wasn't about to drown. A piece of driftwood kept her afloat and her angry kicks at the water propelled her forward in her determined course, and she quickly was able to approach the coastline near the place where Masuda stood. As soon as she could stand up, she could and tried to march to dry sand as she glared around at her new surroundings. Unfortunately, the fighting-type and its trainer soon caught her eye, quite a bad omen for the poor souls as she was in a pretty terrible mood. "Hey yo-" She began to call out, but sputtered as salt water splashed up right into her mouth and nose. A few more waves assaulted her and her head went under the water for a few seconds before she came up again, gasping for more air. She kept her mouth shut until her face was very well safe from the salt water. "Hey. You! Do. Have. A. Towel?" She was still in water that was waist-high and really could use that towel. Her scarf was soaking wet even after she took the time to wring it out and, even though the water was fine, was shivering with goosebumps and covered with water-induced wrinkles.

Masuda River ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Masuda was taking in the scene, and even when rudely interupted by some language that would make a sailor blush, he continued to be in a good mood. Masuda smiled at her and took off his outer robe, "No towel, but will this do?"

The girl breathed a sigh of relief as she realized that the person on shore wasn't going to run away, refuse to help or get spontaneously angry, all of which seemed to happen to her lately. Her anger deflated, but only by the slightest bit as her rage and adrenaline was slowly replaced by exhaustion and cold. With how cold it was for her who had been swimming for seeming ages, being battered by the chilled ocean wind and even more water. As her feet emerged from the shallow water it could be seen that they were absolutely saturated with water and began to collect sand as she approached the person who had offered his help. As her teeth chattered, she managed to make out a quick and hurried, "Thank you," as she focused on wrapping herself in the piece of clothing that was big enough to swallow her several times. It was also getting as soaked and sandy as she was. Most other people would feel bad that they might be ruining a perfectly good piece of clothing, but she rationalized that he had offered and she was cold. Once she was less uncomfortable and slightly less cold, she was able to spit out a question. "D-Do y-y-you have. A-Any idea w-where thi-is is? I-It's n-not C-C-Cin-nibar." Her teeth were still chattering so badly that she could hardly speak, but at least she was communicating without adding in any extra words. "I-It's not V-V'million, either."

Masuda River ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Sam smiled warmly while she fought the cold. She seamed like a lot of fun. "Well, it's neither. Cherrygrove, as far as I know. I am just passing though." He looked at her garb, "Those are port cities... But you didn't mention Olivine. Did you set sail from as a passenger on a ship or something?" She didn't look like the tourist type, but Masuda didn't really know what the tourist type looked like.

The girl took a moment to process the new information. Cherrygrove. Olivine. Those where cities in Johto. Her jaw dropped, her eyes widened, and she shrieked, "What!?!? I'm where? This is Johto?" She couldn't believe it. She was going to give the person responsible for this mishap a serious talking to. A very serious talking to which would probably end up being more of a scolding than anything else. The anger was back again and more vibrant than ever. She began to pace in circles as she vented her tale, hoping to get some angry energy out and some warmth into her frozen limbs. "Number one. I am most certainly not a passenger, tourist, or amateur." While she spoke, she made large, sweeping gestures with the hand that was not clutching the makeshift towel to her body. "I am Caarina Lowe, sailor of the seas extraordinaire, but you'd better call me Ina or else." It sounded like a threat, but she didn't even pause before moving on. "I'm from Vermilion and was heading to Cinnabar to deliver important cargo when a vicious sea Pokemon rose from the ocean and attacked my vessel! It ruined my rudder and ate my navigation tools in a single fell swoop! My faithful companion Triton and I managed to defeat the little monster, but It was too late! Now, how am I supposed to steer without a rudder or directions?" Ina paused and stared pointedly at the two who had helped her, but the question was rhetorical. "Try as I might, I couldn't convince the culprit to spit up my stuff and I couldn't even do first-aid on the rudder before I drifted into those rocks over there. There wasn't anything I could do, and shore didn't seem too far away at the time, but it got so cold!" Ina took the opportunity to shiver again and looked back out to see. Yes, her ship was toast and there was nothing she could do about it, as it was an old boat that was about to be retired anyway. At least she had salvaged the cargo. "And... Now, I need to get to Olivine- apparently- to get a ride on the S.S. Aqua. Or I could get some tools here... But I don't think that this dingy little town will have anything that I can use.""So, Mister Just-Passing-Through, do you know the way?"

Masuda River ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Sam shrugged, "Well, Olivine is the only way to Kanto, unless you have a pokemon that can surf up waterfalls and a bunch of gym badges. I am headed that way too. I need to get to Kanto to take over a job." He paused and sighed sadly, "A job I don't deserve." He said, "Well, no sense in traveling alone." Sam beckoned pointing towards the nice little pokecenter, "Best not die of hypothermia."

Ina blinked at the sudden change in the man's demeanor. He didn't seem like a person prone to guilt or whatever it was he seemed to be feeling, but maybe he was prone to mood swings instead. Whatever it wasn't any of her business. "I'll have you know that my Triton is perfectly capable of smashing rocks, braving waterfalls and surfing if he chooses to. We as citizens of Kanto just haven't yet obtained the necessary badges." It was a blatant exaggeration, but if her little, trusty Triton even had the inkling that she had spoken badly of him... He would probably sulk for the whole rest of the week! And she couldn't have that! Especially when they had added an untrustworthy sea beast to their ranks! ...But he was right about one thing. "...But you are right about one thing. Let's go." Ina took her traveling companion's arm and all but dragged him to the Pokemon Center. He wasn't walking fast enough, and she wasn't patient or warm enough to wait up for him... Though she would never admit that she was at risk for developing hypothermia. She was simply following his advice for warm clothes and a Nurse Joy for her tired Triton... And that new one. Ina decided right there that she would have a firm talking with him about messing up that old boat. Once she had managed to bring the job-seeker though the door of the Pokemon Center, she finally released his arm and went up to the Nurse Joy at the desk without looking back. "Will you heal my Pokemon?" Ina asked, more like demanded. "Please? And do you have a blow drier or a towel by any chance?" She added as an afterthought. It wasn't incredibly warm in the Pokemon Center, and the Air Conditioner was still blowing just a little bit, making her stay chillier for longer. Nurse Joy complied with all three requests, not really bothered by Ida as she had dealt with worse patients in her time. Now warm and with all her Pokemon better, she went and sat down in a chair, asking her companion out loud, "What kind of job is it? I know I've been training for mine, but what about you?"
