Tallulah had gotten it in her head to do something nice for Kat. After noticing that her roommate had caught some kind of nasty flu (well, it was hard not to notice), she'd gone on a spree of sanitizing every surface in the apartment. Tallulah was too busy to get sick! But now, feeling bad for making Kat undoubtedly feel like a pariah, she was putting the kitchen to good use trying to make soup.
Not just any soup. Thai soup. Tallulah was in no way, shape, or form Thai - but she did think that a bowl of vegetarian tom yum soup would be good for whatever ailed Kat. With just enough spice to clear the sinuses, of course!
After a full afternoon of cooking, the soup was nearing completion. Tallulah whipped a clean spoon out of the drawer and took a sample. Well, it was as close as perfect as it was ever going to be! She dropped the spoon into the sink and called, "Kat? You hungry?"
Nervously, Tallulah turned to eye Kat's bedroom door. She was almost worried that some kind of flu-zombie would emerge in the other girl's stead. (Living in Destiny City did tend to make the imagination run wild.)

Kat had gone through a lot of water and apple juice mixture to help herself stay hydrated but it wasn't touching her fever at all. She'd managed to keep a little bit of broth down before Tallulah had caught on that she was not at top form. Times like these Kat was glad that there was someone she could count on to help out. She had called Tony at the library to let him know of her condition. The whole day she'd been lounging in her pajamas. Her book collection was helping her keep her sanity as well as watching a few new shows on NetFlix. Tallulah had shown her how to go about using the service and Kathryn had quickly caught on. It would mean that it would be a wait for some of her shows to load new seasons but at least she wouldn't be missing much now.
The smell of something cooking all day had permeated her room. There was a call from beyond her door and Kat stirred restlessly. She pulled herself out of her bed and slipped on a pair of slippers before giving herself a quick glance over. Well she wouldn't be winning any beauty contest that's for sure.
Opening her door Kat was greeted with something that smelled rather good. She took in Tallulah standing in the kitchen and nodded slowly to her question. "Something smells good Tallulah. I have a feeling that I'll need all the help I can get at the moment. Thank you. Being sick really sucks."
Kathryn plopped herself down at the table and pillowed her head on her arms. Just moving around this much had made her tired. She really really hated being sick.

Kat really did look pathetic, thought Tallulah as she ladled soup into a bowl. Clear, spicy broth and lots of fresh vegetables would hopefully be just what the doctor had ordered! She carefully crossed the room and slid the bowl and spoon across the table. "Careful, it's hot - and a bit spicy." Sinus clearing was her intention - hopefully she hadn't gone overboard with the chili.
Tallulah got herself a bowl and retreated to a safe distance to eat it from. "It's okay," she assured Kat as she blew on her soup. "Everyone gets sick sometimes." Which only served to make Tallulah realize that she hadn't had a major illness in years. The occasional cold, but nothing debilitating - major injuries considered under an entirely different heading, of course.
"You got a flu shot, right?" she asked - although, if Kat had the flu now then clearly it hadn't worked. Tallulah hated when that happened, when they inoculated everyone against the wrong strand and then you got the flu anyways.
"How's the soup?" she added expectantly. "Edible?"

Kathryn gently plunked the spoon into the bowl. Her eyes roamed the contents of the soup. It had a clear broth with vegetables floating around. It looked good. If it tasted as good as it smelled Kat didn't think she'd have a problem. Gingerly she picked up her spoon and gathered a small portion of the broth into the dipped area. She blew gently on the liquid as she brought the spoon to her mouth. Taking a chance Kat slipped the spoon into her mouth and mentally crossed her fingers that she wouldn't regret this.
She swallowed the liquid and felt it burn her throat on the way down. Her eyes took in Tallulah sitting across the room as she removed the utensil from her mouth. She placed it back into the bowl and gave her room mate a strange look. The wish for milk came to mind but Kat bit back the request. "A bit spicy? I wonder if our definition of spicy is the same."
Kat felt chagrined a little after that comment. Tallulah was clearly trying to help her out with this illness she had and she was almost turning up her nose. She gave Tallulah an apologetic smile before taking another sip of the soup. It was good albeit for the spices. "I'm sorry Tallulah. The soup is really good. I just got taken aback by the kick it has. As for a flu shot: I always try to keep my shots up to date. I did get my shot. I can't understand why I'm sick now. I feel so useless."
Kat had seen how clean the apartment was. Apparently Tallulah had done some cleaning while she was lying around in bed.

Tallulah focused on her own bowl, evaluating the results of her cooking. To her it tasted fine, but then she a) wasn't sick and b) had an adventurous palette to begin with. "It's a Thai recipe," she explained, fully conscious that they both knew she wasn't the least bit Thai. "I tried to cut down the spice level a lot, the website said to use like twice as much but I knew it would wind up painfully hot if I did."
She nudged a stalk of lemongrass around thoughtfully with her spoon, feeling her confidence wane. Tallulah had gotten a flu shot as well, but if Kat had been struck ill then she was at risk, too. "I hate it when that happens," she sympathized. "They must have inoculated everyone against the wrong strain." So then what was this - some kind of mutant swine flu? She shuddered against the thought - but luckily Kat didn't seem deathly ill.
"If I go out to the store in a bit, is there anything you want me to grab?" Her eyes drifted towards the empty apple juice carton in the recycling bin. "More juice? Canned soup?" Tallulah wouldn't cook meat, but if a can of Campbell's Chicken-and-Stars would make Kat feel better then that was what Kat would get.
She'd just try to keep her distance from her roommate. Tallulah had too many duties - to school and to senshidom - to risk falling ill.

Kat grinned. "I'm glad you cut back on the spices. I don't know if it would have helped me or hurt me if you'd used what the recipe called for."
She went back to taking small spoonfuls of her soup. She was mindful that she didn't want to upset Tallulah's feelings. The broth was really good except for the spiciness. The empty feeling in her stomach wasn't helping her situation so it was nice to put something into her system. She removed the spoon from her bowl and gently waved it around at Tallulah's comment of the wrong strain of sickness.
"It could be that." Maybe the health officials weren't aware that a different strain was running rampant. She placed her spoon back in the soup before shrugging her shoulders. Tallulah's offer to go shopping was a welcome one. Kat wasn't sure if she was up to going out just yet. She knew that she looked like a wreck and she felt just as bad. The soup had helped a little.
"If you can get more apple juice that would be great. Maybe also some soda crackers or something that I can nibble on too. Canned soup would be good to have on hold ... just in case." Kat rose from her seat at the table and walked back to her bedroom before re-emerging a minute later with a couple of $20s in her hand. "I think that I need to fund this shopping trip though. It's my sickness therefore I feel obligated to chip in something. I think we might need a little medicine as well."

Keeping Kat at an arm's length, Tallulah reached out and took the money. "Good idea," she agreed, shoving the bills into her pocket and quickly running her hands under the sink. Hopefully Kat wouldn't mind - it wouldn't be good for both of them to turn into quivering blobs of mucus. "You have a specific brand you like? Nyquil? Theraflu? Whatever's the store generic?"
She dried her hands on a dishtowel, finished up her bowl of soup, and tipped her dish and spoon into the dishwasher. "I'm going to leave the pot simmering on the stove, and I'll run the dishwasher later tonight." That seemed to take care of everything. Tallulah set about rounding up her shoes, her coat, and her purse.
"Call me if you suddenly think of anything else I should get," she said, retrieving her keys and cell phone from the bowl by the door. Tallulah was feeling okay. Maybe she'd pick up some Airborne or Emergen-C for herself, though, just in case - whatever Kat had, she didn't want to catch it.
Tossing a quick wave over her shoulder to her roommate, Tallulah headed out.
