Mia hummed happily to herself as she browsed the shelves of the supply shop in Makai, her tail swaying softly behind her and her ears waving back and forth perkily every so often. The things she was browsing wasn't of much use to her yet, as the mononoke girl was not a potion brewer or diviner. She still enjoyed looking at everything, though, and imagining their uses. She considered a few things here and there, a deck of tarot cards she was drawn to despite her current lack of knowledge in the subject, some crystals, a bracelet, various herbs, but the girl eventually passed by them all into the book section. She ran her hands softly and reverently along the covers, looking at the various titles.
Mia picked up a few volumes about illusions, eyeing them curiously. It was the subject she seemed to be progressing the most in lately, but she was still waiting to see what developed. Another book caught her attention, on lightning magic. The young mononoke had just recently also been working in evocation, and the that particular element drew her to it, it's sudden, explosive capability and its swift strength. The witching bit her lip as she looked among all the selections, before finally selecting the lightning book and a small guide to the various types of illusions.
Mia began to wander towards the front of the store. 'I've been at the Academy for four months now,' she thought to herself. 'Some mononokes have graduated in that time. I don't even know what my magic is going to be or how I'm going to harness it. Will I ever be ready for the Grave of Fairies?' the girl wondered to herself. She knew graduating in even six months was an incredible feat, but she still felt impatient sometimes, frustrated with her seeming lack of direction.
Out of the corner of her eye, the bobcat mononoke spied a miniature hand drum in the window next to her as she wandered by. Unable to resist, she tapped her fingers over it lightly, smiling as a soft, steady beat evolved and she unconsciously bobbed her head and swayed her body to it a little.

My, Makai was certainly an interesting place, wasn't it? The last time Althaia had visited the academy, she had been having far too much fun harassing a certain someone to pay much attention to their surroundings. However, the kirin mononoke had decided to drop by again today with the intention of doing some exploring. It wouldn't hurt to get to know her way around Makai, she figured.
The young woman hummed thoughtfully to herself as she entered the shop, her gaze sweeping over all the various books and objects that were laid out. Eyes lighting up, she immediately veered right for the books, her tail swishing eagerly behind her at the prospect of finding possible treasures buried among the shelves of books.
If there was one thing that could be said about Althaia, is was that she was perpetually hungry for knowledge. Her specialty lay in life magic, but that didn't mean that she couldn't read about other types of magic. Elemental magic, dark magic, meteor magic--though Althaia did not have the skill or experience to practice some of these magical forms, she was no less interested in them.
Unsurprisingly, after a few minutes of browsing the bookshelves, the mononoke had her arms full of a variety of different tomes.
With the books obscuring her view, Althaia made her way through the store as best as she could, trying to find her way towards the shopkeeper. Little did she know that she was on the path of a crash course with another mononoke. With each step, she got closer and closer to the other girl, until...
The kirin halted suddenly, her small ears perking up slightly as the soft beats of the drum reached her ears. Angling herself slightly, Althaia's golden eyes widened in surprise at the sight of the girl--or rather, the realization of how close she had been to tumbling right into her. The corners of her lips quirked upwards in an apologetic smile.
"Well, that was a close one!"

Mia had been off in a slight trance, concentrating on the drum beats and how they wove into and around one another. As such, she didn't hear the footsteps coming toward her and only sensed the woman's presence when she was very close. The music cut off abruptly as the mononoke witchling jumped slightly, turning to look at how close the other person was.
"No, I'm sorry, I wasn't paying any attention. I'm kind of blocking the way anyway," Mia replied a smile and a twitch of her ears, her tail curling around her body in slight embarrassment. "I was off in my own world a bit." Her smile grew as she saw the enormous pile of books the other woman was carrying. Clearly a learner and reader like herself, although walking behind such a large pile without any way to see probably wasn't all that safe. "Um, would you like some help?" she queried, shifting her own few volumes to one arm. "I can take some of those to the front with you, if you'd like."
And she had...horns! Another mononoke, although Mia had never met one of the species with horns before. They didn't look like normal deer horns either, but the girl decided to wait until the other female answered before wondering about that.

Althaia was quick to dismiss the apology with a light laugh and a shake of her head. "It would have helped if I had been paying attention to where I was going." It had been a good thing that the girl had been playing with the drum--if Althaia hadn't heard the soft, steady beats, she probably would have crashed right into the poor Mononoke. As it was, she took a few, careful steps backwards, just in case one of the books from her stack were to fall. Dropping a book on someone's head was not exactly the best way to greet someone new, after all.
The offer surprised her, and the kirin hummed contemplatively as she stared up at her large stack of books. "Well...I think that I'm fine--" She didn't even get a chance to finish her sentence when the topmost book slipped and was sent falling to the ground. It landed with a dull, heavy thump, causing the girl to cringe. Not so much at the fact that she had dropped the book (though it would pain her if any damage had come to it), but rather the fact that...well...
...She had nearly missed giving this poor feline mononoke a concussion.
After a moment of silence, Althaia laughed, looking a bit sheepish. "Well, if your offer is still valid..." Trailing off, she gave a little nod of her head. "I'm Althaia. Are you perhaps a student here at Makai?"

Mia had been about to double check before she went to the front and left the other mononoke with her books when just as the woman said she was fine one of the books came tumbling to the ground. She laughed at the woman's cringe. "Well that was a close one," she commented with a smile as she bent and picked up the book. "Don't worry, I've been hit by much worse. And of course it is!" With that, Mia reached over and took quite a few more tomes, at least enough that Althaia's eyes were visible over the top of the stack.
"There, that should be a bit safer, now," the witchling replied as she organized her own stack, which also went up high enough to obscure most of her face now. "Ah, yes, I am. My name is Mia, it's nice to meet you Althaia," the monoke girl replied as she turned around and led the way toward the front of the store. 'What an odd pair we must look,' the girl thought to herself- two young women walking with books stacked so high they could hardly see. She smiled at the thought of what they must look like.
Deciding to ask her question, Mia glanced over her shoulder for a moment. "I'm sure you've noticed we're both mononoke, so if you don't mind my asking, what species are you?" Mia asked curiously. "Your horns don't look like those of a deer, so I can't quite figure it out." Normally Mia wouldn't just ask this type of question so bluntly, but she was usually able to puzzle out what types of animals mononoke were. And she got the feeling this woman wouldn't in the least be offended by the question.

"Ah, thank you. I do appreciate the help!" Althaia held perfectly still as Mia removed a couple of the books from atop the stack, her expression pleased as, with each tome removed, a little more of the kirin mononoke became visible. First, her horns, then the top of her head, and then finally, a pair of golden eyes poked out from behind the stack of books. Althaia's tail gave a pleased swish, narrowly missing knocking objects off of the stands beside them. "Oh, how nice, I can see now."
Shifting her arms to ensure that no more books would come tumbling down as she walked, Althaia followed after Mia as the other girl led the way. "It's nice to meet you as well, Mia. And aah, so you are a student. How do you like it here?" She was genuinely curious about the students' opinion of the academy. Was it a nice place? Were the professors good at what they did?
...Would they care if a complete stranger sneaked in every so often to listen in on the classes? Perhaps if she were to obtain a uniform somehow...
She was snapped out of her (rather eccentric) thoughts by the sudden question. For a moment, she looked startled, but her expression quickly made way for a pleasant smile. "Not quite a deer, no. I'm a kirin."
