Danny sat on her windowsill, feet dangling off the edge. Her guitar was in hand, surprisingly well balanced for how unwieldy it was. She sat looking down at all the people milling about the demon dorms for a second. There was a demon running to greet her friend at the corner. There was a boil with flowers in his hand- presumably an apology from Scarentines. A boil meeting a ghoul friend to go out to lunch.
With a sigh, Danny began playing a song, on the guitar she'd be working on for weeks. Something about the melody just haunted her in the best kind of way.
Ignis was sleeping on the bed, G was in the kitchen avoiding Ignis' fur and Tony and Tiff had both curled up on the windowspace beneath Danny, inside her dorm. As soon as she started playing, Tony lifted her head, but didn't do anything.

Nyyrikki fingered the petals of the bright red rose he carried and smiled slightly at what he was planning. Fixing everything, fixing what he'd done, all started with this one little flower. To be honest, he was a little excited for this new chapter, though his heart stuttered with nervousness. He was pretty confident he knew what he was doing, but with Danny, anything was a guess.
He took in a deep breath when he reached her door and pushed it open as silently as he could. Not that he needed to - as soon as the door was open Danny's voice and the gentle strum of her guitar reached his ears. His chest clenched as he processed the lyrics; his Danny was so sad. And it was his fault. He'd been an idiot, but he could fix this. He could make everything right.
As her song ended he pressed two fingers to a petal on the rose and closed his eyes, concentrating on the fear around him. A moment later, orange flames licked across the silky flower. He attached a little tag to the bottom of the stem and let it fall to the floor just inside her door. With a final glance at his fire demon, he turned and left as silently as he had come.
The tag on the rose only read: Rikki <3

Danny then gazed at the hot art in dhs' sig WAIT WRONG CANON
As her song finished, Danny stared out the window and just decided to strum, not really going anywhere with her song. If Rikki had entered the room, she didn't even notice. She was busy looking at the people below, sort of half-heartedly smiling. Guitaring always made her feel better.
Tony, however, was vigilant as ever. She noticed Rikki the moment he cracked open the door, and spent the entire time watching him, judging him. Tony did not like the way this outsider wouldn't present himself like a good halloween citizen would. Tony immediately didn't like him
When he dropped the flaming rose and exited, Tiff went absolutely ballistic. She started yipping like the entire room was filling with water, and running in circles like it was a race against her tail. Tony gave a disconnected look like "kay."
Danny, startled by the noise, turned around to find the flaming rose, which Ignis had now started chewing on. Had that been there before? She couldn't remember. Maybe she brought it home one day? No that hadn't been it ...
Either way, she got up and pried the thing out of her dog's mouth. Opening the little tag, her mouth twisted. A rush of emotions hit her, both good and bad. "What the hell..." she said, under her breath.
Why was someone sending a rose for Rikki to her dorm? It clearly said Rikki on it, meaning it was meant for him. Did this person not even know that Rikki was a reaper? He was in the jackdamn reaper dorms for hell's sake. "Hell's bells," she muttered, setting the rose on the desk. Maybe it was just an honest mistake.
... But who was sending Rikki a flower?

*le timeskip
The next day Nyyrikki hung around the demon dorms like a creeper. Not because he was generally creepy - really, he promises he's not - but because he really needed Danny to leave. It was really difficult to stay out of sight and still be able to watch for when she left, but he managed it with a lot of shadow stepping, which was honestly, a little physically demanding when you did it so often.
When he finally saw her leave his heart skipped a beat. He didn't know how much time he had, so he had to work fast. He gathered a couple bouquets of roses in his arms and ran like he was being chased, taking the steps two at a time and not stopping until he was inside her dorm with the door closed. Now he just had to keep her minis from making too much noise, set up the surprise, and get the jack out of here... piece of cake.
Hopefully.

Danny had gotten bored of doing homework (which, by the way, she only wrote her name on. That was as far as she got.) and had decided to go play some casketball. She was sure she could find a partner. Everyone loved casketball!
Normally about this time she would be in Roch's room, but ... well that wasn't an option. He was mad at her, and her soreness hadn't quite gone away.
As she exited her room, she noticed the rose still lit on her desk, but it wasn't as ... perky as it had been yesterday. The FEAR enchantment on it was wearing off. It wasn't exactly the best enchanting job ever. She closed her door quietly, and heaved her bag over her shoulder again. She could've swore she saw something to her left, but ... well it was probably nothing.

Nyyrikki peered through every room of her door quickly to make sure there were no surprises, and then set to work. First he unwrapped each of the bouquets, leaving a pile of roses on her bed for him to work through. Then he quickly set about concentrating fear into each flower until flames licked across their petals like the first rose. because of the sheer number of flowers he was working with he had to do a sloppier job, so he'd be surprised if they lasted more than a fraction of the time the first rose had, and even that was a bit shameful, but he was trying. Really damn hard.
As he set each rose on fire he then placed them around her dorm. Some on her desk, some on the floor, a few around her tub and a couple sitting on shelves. The rest he left spread across her bed. Lastly, he collected all the petals that had fallen off during the process and on a clear spot on the floor, he spelled out a simple message. That handiwork done, he glanced over his masterpiece. Pretty freaking romantic, if he did say so himself.
He ducked out of the room and flew down the stairs, skipping... well, most of them. By the time he was back in his dorm, he was breathing heavily.
When she opened her door, she'd read the message: Miss U

After playing casketball with Demi for a while (which, by the way, she had totally won. Don't trust anything he says. She won.) Danny had returned to her dorm panting in her tank top and shorts. She pulled her tank top up to wipe off her face, like boils so often did. She really didn't care if she flashed someone her bikini- she did that every day after all.
As she rounded the corner, she swore she saw someone leave her room. It looked like a ... well Danny couldn't make out anything. She couldn't even make out if it was boil or ghoul. Damn you details.
Still, Danny wasn't particularly worried. Unless the thug intended to steal her minipets, all of the things in her room were replaceable. It was part of the deal of having rich parents; nothing material really mattered to her. Call it spoiled.
Opening the door, she was greeted by a wash of roses. Flaming roses, just like the last one. She walked into the room with her head up, completely missing the "Miss U" the first time. "What the..." she said, glancing around her room. Slowly, one by one, all of the roses went out until they were just normal dead roses again.
Now that she had a moment to set her stuff down, she saw the secret message on the ground. Her face twisted up. Who was "Miss U." ???
With an angry lash of her tail, Danny left a line of ash across the Miss U message. So that's who had sent Rikki the roses. Miss U. Did that mean ... he had a ghoulfriend now? Or at least, someone special to him? Her heart clenched up, though she didn't mean it to. If Rikki was happy, she was happy. That's what she told herself.
She slashed the name again a few times to make herself feel better, but she didn't feel anything at all. With a sigh, she began gathering up the roses to set them on the desk next to her other one. Should she maybe be mentioning this to Rikki? It would be the right thing to do. Tell him that some mysterious Miss U. was sending him presents to the wrong door. She couldn't do it though. Maybe it was selfish, but she wasn't ready for that. Not yet.

*le timeskip, again
Nyyrikki was on a jacking roll. Seriously. He felt like this was going well (ha... haha) and he was doing a pretty damn good job of being romantic. Good guy points for Rikki!
The next day Rikki had something different planned, and that something different flopped madly in his arms until it was almost hard for him to hold on to it. Today he didn't stalk around the demon dorms like a creep, or even particularly care if Danny was in her dorm or not. It was a simple in an out mission. He strolled up to her room, only stopping to dodge familiar demons (couldn't have anyone warning her, after all).
At her door he peered at the kingyogiri in his hands, looking it straight in the face.
"You go in there, and you make me proud," he whispered to it.
... Unfortunately, it just flailed and flopped some more. He cracked Danny's door open and dropped the pet just beyond the threshold, then closed the door again and dashed off like the past two days.

Danny was in the lavatub when Rikki made his little speech. She had some snotcorn on the side of the tub and was currently playing with her rubber dubbit. BECAUSE THOSE ARE TOTALLY STILL COOL EVEN AS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.
Tony was still as sharp as ever though. The moment an intruder came in her territory, she waltzed over to examine the thing. Tiff followed close behind her because ... well Tiff was an idiot. She had nothing better to do but follow her companion.
The kingyogiri continued to seizure on the ground.
Tiff tilted her furry head at the thing, and then began seizuring on the ground with it.
Tony considered them both imbeciles and went back to her perch on the bed.
After some time, Danny came out to find both Tiff and her new mini flopping on the ground like dead fish. "Uhhh, hey little guy. Where's your owner?" The kingyogiri continued to flop. With a frustrated sigh, Danny picked up the kingyogiri. As soon as it touched the remnants of lava on her skin, it immediately calmed and started ... purring? She patted it slowly, and found a note attached to its collar, that said: I L U.
So that was the ghoul's initials! Danny's tail spiked a little in jealousy. The flowers were a bit much, but now they were exchanging minipets? Her jealousy was peaking. The kingyogiri started freaking out in her arms, so she said, "What do you want?" Obviously the minipet didn't respond- it instead continued to flop.
In a fit of anger and frustration, Danny ran over to the bathroom and shut the minipet in there. It could flop around forever for all she cared.
Much later when she decided to apologize and visit it, she found it happily swimming around in the lava like the seizuring had never happened.
"I don't even ..." That's it. She was giving up understanding this "I L U."

*ALL THE TIMESKIPS
This was it, the last day of Rikki's plans. He had nothing up his sleeve after this. He fingered his last gift as he sat in his room, taking deep breaths. This was the serious gift. Or, at least, he hoped she'd see it as serious. It was hard to tell what Danny could consider serious. With one last sigh, he left on his last romantic..ish adventure to her room.
He didn't even have to hide this gift as he strolled through the demon dorms, and because he didn't have a bunch of flowers to hide, he was able to hang out at the end of her hallway. As soon as her door open he shadow stepped so she wouldn't see him, and when he was certain she was gone he slipped into her room. He peeked around her rooms just to see how the kingyogiri was doing and was pleased to find it swimming in her bath. Hopefully that meant everything was working...
He walked over to her bed and took off his hoodie, folding it and placing on her pillow. On top of that, he added his final gift and left.

Danny came back from a long day of classes, and flopped onto her bed. She wasn't quite ready to do her homework yet. Or ever. Yeah.
Her face touched something tiny and smooth, and she realized she wasn't laying on one of her old sweatshirts. This was ... This was someone else's. The tiny emblem fell off her face and she stared at it for a moment. Crows? Chains? That had to be Rikki's, but ... Why was it in her room? Her heart sank a little in her chest. Rikki gave his emblem to someone? She knew they were estranged, but it still hurt. A lot.
Were Rikki and I L U meeting in her room or something?! Is that why all of these presents had showed up out of nowhere from "Miss U" to Rikki?
It was the last straw. She gathered up the emblem, pulled the kingyogiri from the tub, piled the roses on her desk neatly, and got ready to go have a word with Rikki. She had told herself she was happy for Miss U and Rikki, and didn't want to pry, but she had to know.
The sweatshirt ... the sweatshirt she didn't have the heart to pile in with the rest of the stuff. She took a moment and- in a sort of creepy way- held it close to her. It smelled like Rikki, and her heart sort of clenched up in a bittersweet way. She missed him, a lot. She gave the sweatshirt a hard look and then decided to put it on, ripping holes in the back with her claws for her wings. Maybe Rikki wouldn't notice.
---
With the stuff piled in her arms, she didn't really have hands to knock on the door. So instead she kicked it a few times, waiting expectantly for him to answer. The kingyogiri was squirming, but she payed it no mind. All she was focused on right now was the boil who was going to hopefully answer the door.
She kept the emblem firmly pressed in her hand, which was tucked in one of the jacket pockets. It was ridiculously selfish, but ... she didn't want to give it up just yet. She was clinging to some stupid hope that if she kept the emblem, maybe Miss U would forget about him.

Rikki had been half-heartedly playing his drums when his door was nearly kicked in. He'd been too preoccupied to put any real heart into playing, but even a little idle tapping was enough to help him zen out a bit. There was no zen to be had when someone strong and seemingly angry was trying to get your attention though. He answered the door with his sticks still in his hand and nearly collapsed with relief when it was Danny on the other side.
.... Why did she have all the stuff he'd given her though?
"Hey, Danny. What's up?"

She wanted to say a bunch of very rude things, but she couldn't. She really just couldn't. Danny hadn't seen him for so long, and even the sight of him just clenched her heart up.
But no, he had Miss U now, and she wasn't going to come between them. She wanted Rikki to be happy, and if that meant him finding a new ghoul, so be it.
He looked so much different now. His hair was shorter- then again, so was hers- he had more chains than she remembered ... did he get new tattoos? Just where had he gone for this long week?
"You um," she stuttered out, trying not to choke up. Right. She had a purpose. "I mean ... ah..." She really hadn't thought through what she was going to say. "M-Miss U left a bunch of stuff for you in my room," she began to walk past him so as to set down the stuff. More importantly, she didn't want to look at his face. This was a stupid idea. She shouldn't have come here- it was way too hard. "I know I should have but I didn't tell you... about the stuff I mean."
Not even letting Rikki get a word in, she said, "I ... I'm very happy for you okay, and I don't want to come between you two." She was choking up over her words now. This was stupid. "So I brought her stuff for you."

Rikki's brows furrowed as he watched her walk past and listened to her. Miss U? Who the jack was Miss U? Was there a new teacher in school? Oh jack. Did he have a stalker? A teacher stalker? That was just sick and gross and all sorts of ew. He followed her as she began to dump all the stuff in his room. Wait. She thought this stuff was from some Miss U?
... OH.
It hit him then that all the tags on this gifts he'd given her were either marked with Miss U or -Rikki. She must have thought... oh god. He rushed over and began picking up everything she set down and shoving it back in her arms. "No Danny. No. These aren't from Miss U. That's... no. It means I miss you. Like, I, Rikki Synkka, miss you, Danny. They were all from me to you. I mean Danny. You-Danny." Oh god, this was a mess. He wasn't good with words.

Danny blinked a few times as things were rapidly shoved into her hands. I, Miss You? So that meant Rikki was Miss U? ... Danny had a confused.
Her voice was wavering, and her hand was quickly balling into a fist, but she gritted through her teeth, "Look I already told you, I'm okay with you dating someone else so-"
You. Not U.
Danny dropped everything she was holding right then and there. "But why?" she stammered, "I- I mean you ... I was horrible to you and I just ran off." She shook her head, not understanding, her shoulders hunched. The kingyogiri was, for once, not spasming and just lying on the floor happily. It seemed like Rikki's room.
"And the pin- you- ..."
