Terraria is an action-adventure/RPG indie game released by independent game studio Re-Logic. The game features exploration, crafting, construction, and combat with a variety of creatures in a randomly generated 2-d world.
Released on May 16, 2011, the game is estimated to have sold about 50,000 copies during its first day of release, with over 17,000 players online at the same time during the first day's peak. Over the week, 200,000 copies of the game were sold, making it the top-selling game on Steam for the week, ahead of The Witcher 2 and Portal 2. It remained number one on Steam for the first six days of its release.
Think of Terraria as a 2-D version of Minecraft. Only there are more mobs, more items, more armor, more weapons and Bosses. At the beginning of the game you are to make a character by choosing from the different choices of hairstyles and changing the colors on the character's eyes, skin, hair, and clothes. Once you have made your character you are to create a world. Worlds come in three sizes (small, medium, or large.) You are dropped in the center of the world once you have spawned and are accompanied by your guide. The guide gives you tips on how to survive in your world and will show you recipes for various items you may find. And if you meet certain conditions in Terraria more people will move into your neighborhood (that is if you decide to build one but it is recommended that you do). And from there you can survive the nights or grow stronger to take on the bosses.
