Aysu had been doing a very good job of keeping things to herself since the arrival of her cubs- and she considered it quite a feat, knowing how much had been going on around the pride, especially with Yareha. But then something happened that she was sure it would be best to talk about. When Mazin came to her and told her Laelia's cubs were his, offering clumsy excuses and saying that they were trying not to draw a lot of attention to it.. Aysu decided it might be best to approach Yareha. She had no idea how he would take the news but it would spread sooner or later and it might be better for him to hear it from a friend and in private.
She had left her cubs with specific instructions to stay near home and play nice, their den was fairly central and she was confident someone would have spotted them if they tried to sneak away.. and she was headed for Yareha's den, hoping he would be home and she would be able to talk to him privately.

Aysu was in luck. Yareha had finally managed to get outside of the den without a single cub waking up. This was the fifth attempt, and here he was finally successful! The white lion wanted to roar his exultation to the sky, but wisdom prevailed and he wisely continued tip-toeing away. Some fresh air, some adult conversation perhaps...these would be a nice break from fatherhood. He was just congratulating himself on his escape when he caught sight of the familiar figure heading his way. He'd seen Aysu a fair bit of late, both of them being parents now and it making sense to bring all the kids together to play. This was a bit harder now, as Aysu's children were juveniles and his own were still silly cubs. However, not a single child trailed behind the lioness and Yareha suppressed a twinge of nervousness as he watched his sister approach. "What brings you here?" he asked as he came within quiet speaking range, still wary of waking the cubs.

Aysu was relieved to see Yareha out by his den alone, not sure how she would tiptoe around the topic they were going to discuss if she didn't chicken out. She put on a small smile and guessed that the cubs must be asleep where he was speaking quietly.
"I was hoping to have a word with you," she said, her smile wavering a bit. They hadn't discussed a great deal about his love life, though she had tried to get a sense of his feelings on everything that happened. She had no idea what to expect from what she came here to talk about, it all depended on his feelings for Laelia- past and present.

All sorts of warnings were going off in the white lion's head. Aysu didn't do serious often and when she did, frankly, Yareha had learned to avoid it. The fact that she'd sought him out, and at a time when so much of the pride's attention was focused on HIM...well, it made him incredibly uncomfortable, to say the least.
Still, she was his sister and while they hadn't formally made up after their big spat, she'd been fairly friendly lately. Which meant he should hear her out unless if he wanted a second even worse argument during what was easily the most difficult period of time in his entire life.
"Sure," he said at last, smiling at the black lioness. "Did you want to go somewhere...more private?" Yareha offered tentatively.

She could see the worry in his face and she wanted to be reassuring but she didn't know how to be without explaining why she was here. If she had any idea how he would react, it might have been easier. Hopefully he wouldn't care so much, Aysu still didn't particularly care for Laelia and this didn't help.. and while she was surprised at Mazin, it was easy to ignore his part of the blame when they were so close.
"That sounds like a good idea," she nodded.

Yareha's hopes plummetted as Aysu took him up on the offer. He hoped, he prayed that it had nothing at all to do with Kizev and 'Dama, whom he really had to stop thinking of as being his children. Kivuli was raising them, Kivuli was their father. They were incredibly lucky and he had to forget about them. Otherwise he was likely to slip and screw things up.
He managed to keep Laelia out of his thoughts on that one.
"Lead the way," he told his sister, trusting her to pick an appropriate place for whatever bad news she had to tell him.

Aysu glanced beyond Yareha to his den and opted to simply put some space between them and the den. Cubs could be sneaky little things and while it wouldn't be bad to hear what she had to say, she would say it a different way if she knew there were cubs listening. She put some distance between them and the den slowly, not waiting to settle in before beginning.
"I know you are aware of Laelia's pregnancy," she said, starting with a simple statement, "I wanted to know if you'd heard who the father was."
She came to a stop, turning so they could face each other as the conversation continued.

Yareha had already stopped, as soon as the lioness mentioned Laelia. He'd been trying to avoid thinking about that other situation. The brown lioness had continued avoiding him after their run-in and he'd resigned himself to the fact that whoever's cubs they were, they were ruining his chances of getting back together with Laelia. He almost told Aysu that he didn't want to hear about the father if it wasn't himself.
But that was a selfish position and really, if Laelia had finally given voice to a name, it was inevitable that he in particular would hear about it.
"I hadn't," he answered at last, eyeing Aysu carefully. He really, really didn't want to hear what she had to say.

Very suddenly, Aysu could tell Yareha didn't want to hear anything but his own name- maybe not even that. The situation he was in was a complicated one and it was only about to get more complicated.. or much simpler. But he needed to hear it, it wouldn't be a secret much longer and it would diffuse through the family fast enough.
"I'm sorry, Yareha," she said, genuinely feeling bad for him, "It's Mazin."
If there was a more delicate way of putting it, she couldn't think of it.

...wait. WHAT? She...he had to hearing her wrong. He could have sworn she'd just said Mazin. Their cousin Mazin. Selene's old sweetheart whom the high class had rejected on the basis of too much trouble with slaves lately and brought in Fuu and-
Stop. Slow down. He had to think this through. Mazin wasn't that dissimilar in age to Laelia, he was intelligent and attractive, and by all reports, perfect father material. Yareha thought the only thing that would have surprised him more would be if Kivuli'mwezi or, even worse Mwezi'mtoto was the name she gave. The white lion shuddered at the thought.
On the other hand, he couldn't help feeling betrayed. He knew that part of what had originally attracted the lioness to him was the fact that he'd caused a bit of a stir just for speaking his mind (publicly, and been publicly reprimanded for it). But for the father of her cubs to be the lion that particular bit of drama had centered around...? It hit him in his gut.
He wanted to protest it, to say that there was no way it was true. But Aysu had no reason to lie to him.
He oh-so-conveniently forgot to consider the fact that Laelia, like Kivuli, might be telling a lie to protect somebody else.

Aysu frowned as she watched Yareha struggle to process the information she had provided him with. His mind seemed to be going very fast but he wasn't saying anything and Aysu didn't know what to make of that- she was always a talker, that was one of her many problems.
She wasn't taking his expression or silence as good signs, though.
"Yareha," she murmured, frowning at him, "Are you OK?"

Aysu's words woke him up to the fact that this was still a conversation and he was expected to respond. Verbally. The white lion shook his head to clear it. He really...had no idea what to say.
"Yeah, I'm okay," he mumbled, shaking his mane again and turning to go.
"I uh...sorry Aysu, I just...can't...right now..."
Couldn't think, couldn't vocalize, simply couldn't wrap his mind around the thought. Couldn't believe it. Just...couldn't believe it.

She didn't stop him, knowing better than to try to force him to do or say something at that very moment. He would process it on his own time now, and at least this was a situation he could walk away from to do just that.. it still didn't sit right with Aysu and, watching him go, she realized she ought to go inform Mazin of what she had done. Yareha had a lot of emotional stress in his life now, maybe he would stay calm and non-confrontational.. but maybe he wouldn't.
With a sigh, Aysu turned herself around and headed off to search for her cousin, leaving her brother to sort through his thoughts himself.
