Mission

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Survey Mission 3B
Article Headline: Desecrated graveyard leaves many questioning
* D class difficulty level (you can run this mission solo or with a group/team)
*Article contents: Owners are confused and outraged, as well as locals, as to why their neighbourhood graveyard would be desecrated in such a manner. The deceased bodies are missing, and investigators still have to locate any remains.
MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 3B. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Each player must roll at least three times with rped reactions. Once they have "collected enough information", they can return back and submit a report in this thread.
1- 20: The graveyard is a very large lot, other than the very obvious empty lots, nothing else seems to catch your eye.
21 - 40: You notice that a lot of the empty lots still have grave markers on them. All of them are missing a deceased date... that's unusual, isn't it?
41 - 60: A strange sort of black plant - roots - seem to be sprouting out from the "desecrated" lots, it visibly withers and disappears upon contact with any light source.
61 - 80: Even the coffins, you notice, are missing. There is indeed no signs of the bodies, or pieces of it anywhere, but you notice someone standing in the distance, wearing a black petticoat and an umbrella - even though its not raining - you look back at them again but they're gone.
81- 100: Something clatters under your feet, strange in texture. You dig it up - a broken old fashioned pocket watch is buried underneath.

* 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Marcus had met her in passing, and in an effort to know more of the trainees better, he thought 'why not'? A mission, if observation only, was pretty laid back, and not only would they get some work done, they'd get to meet each other and 'hang out' in a way. It beat playing pool all the time at least.
The mission seemed simple enough, look at some empty graves, get any findings and report back. Marcus had even taken time to prep, a lesson from Jordan. Baggies, swiss army knife, bandages, a flashlight. Nothing too fancy. Waiting out by the lighthouse he sent Tori a quick text to make sure they would be on time. Getting stuck with no portal back.. yeah, he didn't want that to happen.

Are you ready for the mission? I'm at the lighthouse portal.

Tori was a little nervous about going on a mission with Marcus as she had met him in passing and she did want to get to know the other trainees better. Even Aklin thought it was good for her to know a broad range of people. She was also a little excited to be going on a mission even if it was to a graveyard and she packed some things that might be useful to them especially a small note book.

Hearing her phone getting a message, looking at it to see that it was from Marcus and quickly headed for the lighthouse portal while text him back as she headed there.

Yep I am, I will be there soon.

“Hi, Marcus,” she said once she had gotten to the lighthouse portal and visibly nervous too as she was unsure of what else to say as she didn’t want to make a total fool of herself. “I’m already to head out,”

With her arrival, the portal guard gave them a gruff nod to get moving. "Let's get going shall we? The portal won't be open forever, and the faster we do this, the faster we can get back and try to swipe some desserts from the cafeteria." He chuckled. He'd managed to get cake twice in a row now. If all went well, he'd get there in time to snag some ice cream bars.
You're going to get fat.
Not with the exercise I'm getting.
Fatttttt
You're just jealous you cant eat.
I do eat. FEAR which is far more delicious.
How about no.

Going through the portal he frowned as the location came into view. "Well." He shrugged. "A bit depressing but, no zombies or screaming villages. So far I'd say good."

"Yes lets get going," she replied still a little nervous trying really hard not to show as she played with the strap of the bag that was across her shoulder. "That is very true and that does sound like a good idea too," she added as she had never thought of it that way and it had been a long time since she had had ice cream in any shape. She also did smile at the idea of the treat after the mission and Aklin just chuckled at her.

Once thought the portal Tori looked around, the place was different to what she was use to and she found that exciting. "That is true, but I haven't never been to a place like this before," she replied looking all around the place. "You are so right about that one."

Marcus smiled, trying to make light of the depressing mission scenery. "Some people thinks graveyards are frightening on their own, which I'd hazard to say makes it easier for some of the creeps to prey on our kind. But other graveyards get no action or notice. I suppose it's all about location or in this case-" he motioned to the graves further in, "desecration. Without knowing what happened people are probably scared as a result without even having come into contact with whatever has done this. A pretty effective tactic if you think about it."

Walking over to one of the empty graves he pulled out his phone to take a snap shot of the name. They might all be connected and- "Well, here's something you don't see everyday." Flicking the grave marker he waved Tori over. "How often do you see a grave marker with no date of death?" As he spoke he pulled out a sheet of paper and a pencil. He'd try to get a rubbing off of it.

Tori kept on looking around and also looked around to make sure there were no shadows creeping about. She quietly listened to what Marcus was saying and she did agree with him as it did look creepy and with more fog and light it would be way more frightening. “That is a true point. Well maybe the more older a graveyard is the more attractive it is since more people are scared of the place then one that is fairly new.” She said following him farther in. “I think that you are total right and it is an effective tactic and I just wish that we could get it to backfire on those dam creatures somehow,”

“Oh,” she replied as Tori walked over to were Marcus was wanted her to look at and was a little stunned. “Never, I have always seen them with it,” she replied.

Looking around were they were at, she saw that there were still more markers that didn't have death dates on them. Tori when to a different one and took a picture of it. "It looks that there are more of them that don't have death dates on them. What do you suppose it could mean, that this person was dead and now isn't?" As she took out her note book and started to make notes.

"Also a good point." He smiled. "And its sort of like... if you think about how they work, we can think of ways to try and divert or render them invalid. Granted, I'm not life division, but thinking about those things in part is always good. Can keep up on our toes." Moving to look in the graves he frowned. "No coffins, and no signs of any 'raw' or decomposing bodies. Either they were removed, or they never existed. Either way, a coffin or the imprint of one should be here." Takeing a snapshot of the empty grave itself, Marcus looked up and paused. "Who-" Looking at Tori briefly and then back a sudden scowl crossed his face. Who ever they were, they were gone.

"Tori, keep an eye out for anyone. Specifically a woman, black dress, umbrella." He looked around for her again. It could be someone in mourning or not, but either way, we don't want to get involved."

"Yep that is totally correct. But we are all still on the same team no mater our divisions, thought of others bring a better good," Tori replied jotting down some quick notes. "Its good to say on toes or things would get boring," she added. She had been glad that there hadn't been any decomposing bodies as she didn't like them, she could deal with it if she had to, but if there was a choice she would stay away far as possible. "That is good I don't want to do the clean up." Tori said as she shivered a little at the thought of her first mission. "I think it’s strange to why anyone would want to mark a grave if they weren't going to put a body in it and that is true." Looking to the ground to see if she could see any type of marks on the ground.

“Ok, I will keep an eye out for her,” she answers looking around for the woman that Marcus said to keep an eye out for. But as she was take a step forward Tori hears something make a slightly crunching sound and the ground felt a little strange under her food. Bending down to where her foot had been and began to dig around to see if she could find the source of the sound. Brushing the last of the dirt off Tori found a broken old fashioned pocket watch. Taking a few pictures before picking it up. “Look at what I found, Marcus,” she said taking the watch over to where he was and showed him the broken old fashioned watch. “This is a strange find. It could have belonged to someone from one of these graves or from who ever did this.”

He sighed, looking for more clues. "As far as missions go, these are kind of nice, no dead bodies to recover, no monsters ready to stab us from the shadows. Granted, they're sort of boring in that way, but, better to be alive then foolishly end up dead." He scratched at his neck while looking around again. It wasn't the frozen north either, another bonus. "Could be some of these graves are pre bought? Like, someone is going to die they just.. plan ahead? I doubt it but hey, crazy things, people do them." Example: half the hunters.

As his mission partner uncovered her find, Marcus was a bit surprised. "A watch huh? Looks old, not something I'd expect any retailer to carry, and if they did, it would be crazy expensive." Pulling out a ziplock back, he offered it to her. "We can drop it off with our mission reports, anything else we find or want to take we can do the same with."

“You are right these types of missions are nice and not too stressful either. There are times my partner wants things to appear where he can kill them and your right about being alive, then to be foolishly end up dead. They are in a way but it’s good to change it up every now and then,” Tori replied. “They could be but I have never heard of them having head stones on the lots before the person really does die. One really never knows and your right about people being crazy,”

“I have once seen something like this when I was younger and it was crazy expensive. This would have been something that could have been passed down in a family,” Tori said as she took the Ziplock bag that Marcus offered her. “Thanks and that is a good idea too,” she said as she put the watch into the bag and then into her bag for safe keeping and looked around again to see nothing they hadn’t already seen.

Marcus laughed at that. "Get used to it. In battle, they crave to be fed, it's very often the only thing they say to us, to feed them FEAR, oh occasionally they'll offer advice but over all-" He shrugged. "Anyway-" he looked around not noticing much more.
"I don't see much else to investigate, so I'll leave the call up to you, shall we stay or shall we go. We have enough time to keep digging around, but if we can end early there is nothing wrong with that."

Listening to what Marcus was saying about there partners and to her it seamed that she had gotten a chatty partner, but then she had always assumed they were all like that. "I'm learning to. There are times that I wish that is all my partner wanted to say to me, but I get 20 questions a lot," Tori answered.

Nodding in agreement as it did look like the found all that they could, but Tori took a quick look around one more time, but then something caught her eye a strange looking black plant roots coming from one of the desecrated graves and walked to get a better look at the plant. “I didn’t see that before but it looks like there is a black plant’s root of some sort coming from one of the desecrated graves, Marcus,” she said as she took a quick picture of it and from the flash the plant withers and disappears. “Now that is really strange,” she added looking around and finding a little more that had been out of the reach of the light. Reaching into her bag to bring out a little canister, taking out the extra pens from it and put one of the roots inside for a sample and wrote down some notes.

“I think we are good after that find. Let’s head back as that ice cream does sound really good right now,” Tori said as she gave Marcus a smile as she did have fun.

Marcus just caught a glimpse of the plant but it was to fast for him to really notice. "They're pretty individual, our weapons I mean." Checking his gear to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything, Marcus assessed they were good. "But, good finds. Let's head back out the portal, drop off the data and mission reports, and head over to the cafeteria. Better to get the mission report done sooner than later I think."

Heading over to the portal he waved at her. "See you on the other side." With that, he was gone.

"That they are," she answered. Tori also checked her own gear to make sure it was all there. It would be bad to leave something important for there report if it got left behind. "Sound good by me and that is a very good idea too," she answered as it was a sound idea to get the mission reports in now then later and she didn't want to know what would happen if it wasn't turned in.

Tori followed Marcus over to the portal and she waved back "Alright see you soon," she called back then going through the portal herself.
