He had never done the Life course before. Since Life and Death often worked together, Wilson found it odd how he had never tried the Battle Arena—until now, that is. Donning casual clothes, he stepped into the observation room and walked out the door. He stood at the top of the steps, gawking at the course set up. The lasers did not surprise him, nor did the water filled with piranhas. What surprised him was the jenga tower in the middle of the arena. He scratched his head as he ambled down the stairs while looking confused. Wilson vaguely recalled someone informing him about what the Life course was like, but he had forgotten.
Wilson sat down at one of the chairs at the table. He seemed disappointed as he reached for one of the pieces, but then he stopped. After a moment of staring at the empty chair across from him, Wilson took out his cellphone. He didn’t know who to message. While he could’ve asked one of his friends, he decided to call one of the Lambs. Hey, it was only jenga, right?

She had literally ran all the way there, as soon as she got the text. To be honest Sydney still felt a little... young, ungainly, just like the little lamb that they called her so often, and the chance to show herself as less "baaaa" and more... um... well, ANYTHING, was something she would jump at. "I'm so sorry I took so long," she said as she got there, sounding just a tiny bit breathless. "I got a little lost," she admitted. Her eyes were wandering, taking in the water, the fish that swam under it, the table-- "Is that... Jenga?" she asked abruptly.

As soon as he heard another pair of footsteps he turned toward the observation room and waved, smiling amiably. “No problem! This is probably your first time in the Battle Arena, right? Mine too, actually.” Wilson’s smile took on a sheepish quality as he placed a hand behind his head. “Um…” He turned toward the tower of wooden pieces. Wilson was silent for a moment before nodding and answered, “Yeah, yeah it is.” His expression turned contemplative, then shrugged and gestured for Sydney to take the seat across from him. “I’m not sure how this is supposed to train the Life trainees, but I guess we won’t know until we try it out for ourselves.”

"Perhaps there's something we're not being told?" Sydney offered, her eyes falling on the lazers with a slight frown. "I think those fish aren't there for decorations, and those red lights remind me of some movies," she said with a frown. "But I suppose it makes sense, right? I think?"
She really hadn't quite gotten the hang of the entire... well, EVERYTHING. But she was willing to try! And it was either do this or shoot at dummies all day long, and as a Mist trainee, she felt that she needed to learn more than just how to shoot things. Regardless of how much Izy enjoyed himself doing that. "Um, you're going first, right?"

Quote: Life Hunter BATTLE ARENA General Information The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.
Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.
If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...
If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.
Mechanics - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.
- you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)
Round 1
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 1 Trainee Roll: 1d10 Life Trainee Roll: 1d12 Hunter Roll: 1d12 Life Hunter Roll: 1d20
Round 2
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 3 Trainee Roll: 1d8 Life Trainee Roll: 1d10 Hunter Roll: 1d10 Life Hunter Roll: 1d12
Round 3
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 4 Trainee Roll: 1d6 Life Trainee Roll: 1d8 Hunter Roll: 1d8 Life Hunter Roll: 1d10
Round 4
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 10 Trainee Roll: 1d4 Life Trainee Roll: 1d6 Hunter Roll: 1d6 Life Hunter Roll: 1d8
Bonus Mechanics Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

[/quote] “Probably,” he agreed, joining Sydney in cautiously eyeing the lasers that occasionally perused the arena. “It would definitely be a bad idea to go swimming in here.” A somewhat lame attempt at joking. “Erm. Anyways.” Wilson shifted in his seat and seemed mildly confused by her assumption. “What? Oh, yeah! Sure, sure. I’ll go first,” he confirmed with a reassuring nod. He leaned forward, examining the tower’s components before shrugging and taking off the top piece. Easy. “You’re turn.”
So far, so good. Wilson still didn't understand the point of playing a game of jenga in the Battle Arena, but hopefully he would learn soon enough.Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 1 Total Points: 1

She hesitated, looking at the tower for a long moment. She seemed to take this game very seriously, by the studious expression on her face. It was sort of ruined by the fact that her weapon was whispering dirty jokes--or at least they seemed dirty, half of the words she wasn't quite certain about--in her mind. "Can I ask you a question?" she said as she reached for the first piece that had caught her attention. "What does the word 'jackin'' mean?" She slipped one of the center pieces out, laying it gently on top. Status Round: (current round number)Pieces Taken: 1 Total Points: 1

Wilson rested both arms on the table, his hands clasped together as he patiently waited for Sydney to make her move. He curiously watched her. She seemed quite intent despite it being the beginning of the game. The first few moves in jenga were fairly easy to pass, since the structure of the tower was still solid.
“Go ahead.” He watched Sydney take her first piece and place it on top. Once she finished, Wilson leaned slightly forward to take a second piece and place it on her piece in one smooth motion. “It’s basically like a swear word. It’s usually the replacement for ‘God’ in phrases like ‘Goddammit’ and such.”Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 2 Total Points: 2

"Really," she said. "I've never heard the word 'God' used in the same way Izy uses 'Jack' though," she told him, taking the next piece and moving it to the top. "I thought it must be something like 'damn' or '********' or such," she went on, waiting for him to move the next piece. "And then he sometimes gets very creative and uses 'candlewaxing' which I take is an even more serious curse..." Status Round: (current round number)Pieces Taken: 2 Total Points: 2

“Oh. Gramps really likes to say ‘Jackdammit’ and ‘For the love of Jack,’ but it’s not exactly a replacement for it, either. He’s used ‘jacking’ a couple times too,” Wilson answered, nodding his head thoughtfully and blatantly ignoring the indignant cries and neighs ringing in his head. The loud yells in his thoughts managed to do little as he easily took out another wooden block and placed it on top. “Candlewaxing, you say? That’s interesting. I haven’t heard Gramps say that one. I guess Halloween has a lot of swear words and phrases they can use."Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 3 Total Points: 3

She nodded, seeing his point. "I know they're... monsters and such, but Izy refuses to tell me what he was before he was a crossbow," she said. "Do you know what your partner is?" Izy told her.
She ignored him and moved another piece of the puzzle.

Wilson shrugged. “I’m sure he’ll tell you eventually, though I guess it’s something not that important to know.” He propped his elbows onto the table, his chin resting against one of his palms while the other hand took out his fourth piece. “Gramps was a catoblepas.” He grinned, looking over at Sydney. “Do you know what they are? I didn’t know what they were at first, but they’re a creature from Ethiopia. Head of a buffalo and body of a wild boar. Its stare or breath was poisonous. Depends on what source you use."Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 4 Total Points: 4

"He sounds very powerful," she complimented him. Izy said, a hint of jealousy creeping into his smooth, chocolatey voice.
"Does their species have some sort of impact on what kind of weapon they become?" she asked. It was starting to look as though the girl was a bit obsessed with finding out what her weapon used to be. "I mean, can you look at the weapon and have a sort of... clue about its origins?"

Muffled laughter. Gramps? Powerful? His mouth was beginning to hurt from all of his smiling when he shook and answered, “More like he sounds old.” Wilson was in a rather pleasant mood when he reached over to take his fifth piece from the jenga tower. He eyed it suspiciously. It was beginning to look a bit precarious, but nothing to serious yet.
“Hmm. I’m not sure, actually. I haven’t asked the others what species their partners are,” he confessed. “But it might. Gramps is a catoblepas with poisonous breath, and now he spits out poisonous gas.” A wry frown. “On a good day, at least.”Status Round: 1 Pieces Taken: 5 Total Points: 5

"Oh? I get the feeling that Izy is actually my age or younger," she admitted, chewing on her bottom lip as she looked at the tower. "Which is slightly disturbing at times--the younger part, but I don't think he's THAT much younger, so I ignore it." Izy asked.
It's disturbing because you're constantly hitting on me, she informed him bluntly. How old are you, anyway? She almost absently moved the last piece of the first round to the top.

“Admittedly, I don’t think Gramps is as old as I’m making him out to be. He sounds pretty old, but there’s a bit of something else. I don’t know.” Wilson shrugged. “I wish I could describe it for you.” His forehead became filled with folds as he furrowed his brows. “Disturbing? Oh, okay.” Wilson wouldn’t delve deeper if she didn’t want to.
“Hmmm.” He leaned back a bit to admire their work, but it wasn’t too much yet. Yet. “Okay, time for another piece.” Wilson grinned, picking out a piece with two fingers and plopping it on top.Status Round: 2 Pieces Taken: 6 Total Points: 8
