The sky-kissed mare gazed serenely at the calm water's edge, a soft smile toying at the corners of her lips. Peace... Only the noises of the forest interrupted this quiet dawn. She rose as the sun, at dawn's first light, and retired at dusk... as was only natural for one of her kind.

She wondered what this day would bring. Would she encounter another? Would they be in need of aid? Or would she pass this day, as she had so many others, in quiet contemplation?

She had chosen this quiet glade to reside in for some time... she felt that it was time to stay in one place for a while. To enjoy life, and to let others come to her for a change. She knew that her wanderlust would spark soon, that she would worry that there were creatures in need just beyond the river bend- just over that hill- just across those mountains- and she would start traveling again. But for now... for these few calm days... she would linger here.

She closed her eyes and breathed the clean, fresh air.

Yes... it would be nice to know where she was sleeping for a change.

Cheer trotted towards the river in high spirits. Her legs were covered in a layer of dust from her travels, her snow-kissed cream mane falling in loose tendrils from the tight bun atop her head. The bun was meant to keep the hair from her eyes, so that she might move about freely without impaired vision... it did it's job for the most part, but the spirited canter she had indulged in through the night had disheveled the hairstyle.

She paused by a tree near the water's edge, and in one swift movement tenderly cradled the golden cloth wrapped about her neck in her teeth, removed it, and tossed it over a convenient branch. She treasured the fabric, as a reminder of her home and family. She had left them, as had her siblings, in search of personal growth and spiritual development... but she carried them with her in all her travels, as she carried the cloth- each with their special place in her heart.

Her keepsake carefully tucked away, she proceeded to splash throw the river. She laughed, the sound melodic and overflowing with joy.

Nothing feels as good as a rinse after a long day of traveling! She knew that she would soon tire, and require a small nap. She had kept moving through the night because she could not sleep- she felt as if there was something she needed to do, somewhere she needed to go! She couldn't have explained why if anyone had asked, but she also couldn't imagine why anyone would want to know. What did it matter if she chose to forgo sleep for a few extra hours of cantering through unknown territory...?

She paused, thinking of what her parents would have to say about that... and grinned sheepishly for herself. Okay, so maybe she could imagine why someone would want to know....

Shaking off the thoughts with a loving thought of good-will aimed towards her parents in their family meadow and siblings, wherever they may be, she dunked her head in the shallow water and blew bubbles with air from her nose.

In many ways, the lanky mare- the youngest daughter of a lovingly Lifemated pair- was still a care-free filly.

Awendela's ears flickered as the wind brought sounds of laughter near. It was a beautiful sound; it seemed to fill her with shared joy. Her pale sky-blue eyes sought out the source, and she spotted a tawny mare not far downstream. A shimmer of gold caught her eye, and Awendela peered curiously at the golden cloth hanging over a tree branch. It seemed rather out of place, this shining woven thing... but somehow it did not tarnish the natural beauty of the area.

The other mare stopped laughing, and dunked her head in the water.

Awendela's eyes opened wide as she gasped. Oh-! Her foreleg raised as she prepared to rush to the tawny mare's aid, her expression one of genuine concern. Was that deliberate, or had the mare stumbled...?

She waited anxiously, uncertainty causing her to hesitate. She had not seen the mare stumble, nor did she think that the mare was addle-minded enough to bash her head against the rock if the move had been deliberate. There was probably no cause for concern... and yet the healer still waited to see if her art was needed.

It would never do to be caught off-guard where the well-being of others was concerned. Awendela did not think of herself as some grand savior or a heroine by any means- she merely wished to help.
But, ah, how she wished that help was never needed! That all were healthy, safe, and content... but, alas, such things were for the lands of dreaming. She was of the land of waking turmoils and occasional pleasant encounters.

She could not bear it any longer. "Are you all right?" She called, her voice raised slightly to pass through the watery barrier and reach the others' ears.

The tawny mare's head jerked up, and she drew a large breath deep into her lungs. She peeked left and right, looking for the source of the barely-audible words (she couldn't hear very well, as she was under water at the time, but she was sure she had heard a voice!)... she spotted the sky-blue mare and smiled cheerfully. "Hello!" she hollered, water dripping off of her face in rivulets. She shook her head, sending droplets flying in every direction, and trotted towards the other mare, lifting her hooves high and taking small steps so as to avoid slipping on the rocky river bottom. "I'm sorry, but I couldn't quite understand you. Would you mind repeating yourself?"

She paused just out of splashing-distance, remembering her manners enough to realize that not everyone enjoys being wet. And those who do not enjoy being wet would definitely not enjoy being forced to be wet.

"It-is-a-pleasure-to-meet-you." The words came out in a rush, and her charming recitation was made more endearing by her sincere smile. It was an important saying, one that must be spoken at every first meeting lest the other feel somehow slighted or the speaker be thought of as rude.
Cheer admitted that she was not the best in remembering her manners, but it was out of exuberance instead of carelessness. She sometimes forgot the niceties because she was so intrigued by her newest companion.

The mare was not completely empty-headed, in fact she was a far cry from the simpletons who made anyone with a twinkle in their eye seem suspiciously lacking in wits. She had spent hours philosophizing with her family, and was quite capable of holding her own in intelligent conversation.
Learning new things was thrilling. Yet she could also be quiet and contemplative, silent while pondering the mysteries of the world.
She just found being open and cheerful more... fun.

She breathed a sigh of relief, though color flushed her cheeks as she scolded herself for her audacity. The mare was most likely having a pleasant morning when she interrupted- but, ah, she seemed to be enjoying herself still.

"Good morning. I asked if you were okay." She responded, her voice clear and her pronunciation exact. Clarity of speech was not unusual for her; she often found that it transmitted her meaning more precisely than mumbled phrases and jumbled word order.

"The pleasure is all mine." she repeated the proper response to the mare's proper (albeit hasty) greeting. She had always found that turn of phrase rather odd... why would one rush to claim pleasurable things, instead of merely acknowledged shared enthusiasm for the encounter? Wasn't mutual joy a thing to rejoice over? Etiquette was a thing of polite nuances.

Cheer noted with stated enthusiasm, pleased that the mare had responded to her polite greeting in kind. Now that that was done with, they could speak freely. "Ah, thank you for your concern! I am quite alright, I was just cooling down after a night's journey." She grinned, clearly pleased with herself, much like any exercise-enthusiast after completing a grand workout. Although more disciplined steeds may consider cantering wildly over strange terrain as downright reckless, Cheer liked stretching her legs and ensuring that she was somewhere new come morning.

She loves her family still, and held no ill-will towards that which has become so familiar as to become common-place. But the vitality of fresh faces, the thrill of a new experience, held a constant lure that she couldn't quite shake in the months more suited for long-distance travel. She knew every rock, tree, and bush of her family's glade, and had slowly expanded her knowledge of the area surrounding it until she had to travel further and further to reach someplace New.
Luckily, someone New never seemed to be in short supply.

Realizing that she had followed some mental tendril and left the other mare standing, she blushed faintly and lowered her head complacently. "Might I ask after your happiness as well?"
Cheer's blue eyes traced over the other mare's spiraling horn with wonder and awe; she had never met a Uni before. Such power to do good in such a dainty form... the cloud-touched coat of the other mare was- oh, dear. Name. "I am Cheer."
