User ImageIt was almost night in the swamp. Everything was looking dark and dreary, but he didn't care. Fortune knew something was about to happen. He'd felt like this every time something big happened; all jittery and excited. He couldn't sit still right now. Usually, he was a calm Kin. Calm and collected and sometimes cold, but he didn't mean to be. He joked with his friends and regarded everyone else with a calculating eye. He didn't mean to. It's just how it happened.

His guard was down right now because of the excitement. "What's going to happen?" His deep voice spoke to no one, falling on the ears fireflies that didn't respond to him. They simply swirled and blinked their lights in a calm manner. They didn't know what was going to happen. They didn't even seem to feel the same excitement he did. How odd.

He pushed that thought to the back of his head as he entered one of the pools of muddy water. The scent of rotting leaves and logs filled his nose. Instead of being repulsed by it, like any creature not from the swamp, the Kin inhaled the aroma like it was a fine wine. Crossing that water to the other side, Fortune found his hooves starting to get stuck in some thick mud. ".... Perfect." He was struggling to get free, his head down, focusing all of his attention on his hoof movements.

User ImageRidge was restless. Being stationary for all this time was getting to him. He wasn't like Rose Hips, who constantly craved adventure... Ridge only felt uneasy when not moving. He felt as if the air around him was completely stagnant, that the swamp was closing in on him. There were too many trees, too many Kimeti, too many birds, too much water, too much everything. He thought he belonged on the plains. Everything was wide open there. There was a breeze... The air moved and danced on the plains. In the swamp, it was quite different. The air here was like a kin who had eaten too many frogs - sedintary and fat.

If Ridge had it his way, he would be long gone from the Swamp. He would be learning the ways of the Kiokote. Or perhaps he would be heading off to a new place. Maybe the desert, or the mountains. But Ridge was going no where any time soon. There were four wobbly foals that needed caring for. Though Rain was around to help, Ridge felt that it was his responsibility to do most of their rearing.

He was beginning to think that was a mistake. Constantly looking over the foals was getting exhausting. Hips and Cardamom said he didn't need to watch over them constantly, especially since there were three other adult kin with him. The babies did sleep a lot... Maybe Ridge was just paranoid because he was a first time father? Who knew.

Cardamom had noticed how on edge Ridge had been, so she had kicked the buck out of their 'camp' for the day. Sighing, Ridge made his way through the swamp, grunting and looking unhappy, until he came across a Kiokote standing in a puddle of mud...

Hoof steps told the Kio of a stranger approching. In the swamps this Kio felt at home for some reasons. He knew he wasn't of the swamps like the Kin here, but he couldn't help but be drawn to it. The earthy scent, the excited vibes he was getting. This was the place he wanted to be.

Looking out, he spotted a white figure moving through the swamp at it's own pace. From the size of it, he guessed male, but he could be mistaken. Every Kin varied in shape and size, it seemed. So, he had no choice but to move closer.

Climbing out of the water, the Kio shook off and approached the white figure, making sure his steps could be heard so he didn't scare it. Yes, from the size of the horns it was a buck. So another male? Interesting. The blue spots along his backside was what he focused on first. They were a stark contrast to the white of the main body. Intriguing!

So, he spoke up. His voice was calm, clear and deep. "Hello there."
