Pur had been staying in Herryk's tree-den for quite some time now and had managed to fashion it into a lovely little home for herself. She had managed to teach herself how to skin animals for pelts by trial and error and made a nice bed out of soft crunchy leaves and the furs laid over top of it. Granted, she had to change out the leaves every couple of days, but when you had nothing else to do it didn't seem like quite the bother.

She even learned how to hunt the game in the forest by herself, adapting to the trees and the slickness of the forest floor at times. She was learning and thriving and loving it, even if her purpose for being there didn't exactly love her.

"Maybe he's not going to visit today...," Pur thought to herself aloud as she poked and prodded at a kill she caught a few hours prior as a gift to Herryk. He did come and go as he pleased, but usually it wasn't a very long span of time between his 'visits'. Though, for Pur, they felt more like check-ins, where he was making sure she didn't leave the forest and put herself in danger.

Feeling her stomach growl, Pur took a gander around trying to look for the fox colored male and decided to sneak herself a little snack from the carcass. She killed it after all, and waiting made her hungry.

Herryk would never, ever admit to such a thing, but when it came down to the wire... well, the young lion had grown fond of Pur. It was impressive - she was impressive - how much she'd learned during the time he'd kept her hidden away in the forest. She was coming into her own, and each time that he saw her Herryk felt a surge of pride. Pur was coming to enjoy the forest - in time, perhaps she would love it as much as Herryk did.

There had been some speculation on the Ghost in the forest; who was she? Mothers had used the Ghost in their bedtime stories, holding the rapt attention of their cubs as they spoke of the beautiful ghost-lion who called the forest home. Reavers had looked at the Ghost as a good omen, for the most part. Only Herryk knew who Pur was... and a selfish part of him wanted to keep it that way.

None of them knew that the Ghost was Herryk's. The Ghost was Pur, and she belonged to him - not that he would ever boast of such a fact. Even still, he'd made great progress in showing affection towards the lioness; no longer did he act so aloof or disgusted by her claims. One might even say that there was a warmth in his honeyed gaze.

As he approached the area where Pur had made her small nest, Herryk gave pause as he caught sight of her. Perhaps he would spend this night with her. Perhaps tomorrow he would take her home. "Pur," Herryk called out gruffly, coming to a stop. He paused as he waited for her to greet him.

Herryk had caught Pur off guard. She had been happily enjoying the nibbles of meat she had taken from her kill when she froze at the sound of his voice. Quickly trying to clean some of pink stain from her maw, she quickly got up and moved to get better sight of him, a very happy smile gracing her face.

"Herryk~!" She chirrped, the snowy, lithe lioness side-stepping her prize for Herryk and puttering up to meet him. She stopped when there was only a few feet between them, her chest all puffed out with pride, "I caught you dinner."

Pur waited for Herryk to make a move. She had tried to be affectionate towards him early on in what Pur considered their relationship and he was less than receptive. After many failed attempts she decided to restrain herself until he felt comfortable with her, and as such waited for his consent in whatever form it would.

Granted, her nervously trembling paws were an obvious indicator of how hard she was trying not to rush up to him and rub against him in greeting.

With a small grunt the lion watched Pur approach. His gaze shot between his Ghost and the dinner she'd caught him. The smallest inkling of a smile flirted with his muzzle before he caught himself and eradicated it. Instead he forced his brow into the slightest frown before stepping forward - though Herryk did allow his tail to flick across her side as he moved past her.

He peered over his shoulder at her. "Share it with me? We have... things to speak of, though it can wait until we finish our meal." Herryk sat down near the carcass and watched Pur closely with an inscrutable gaze.

Not today, She thought to herself as he frowned at her. She sighed internally until his tail flicked against her side and made her jump ever-so-slightly. Maybe today?

Pur was more than willing to share the meal she had caught for Herryk with him. She turned with a smile on her face and approached when he mentioned they needed to talk. Now Pur's only knowledge of relationships were that of her siblings, mother and her interactions with him, but even she could feel the whole 'needing to talk' thing might be a bad thing. She felt her stomach churn with a mixture of nervousness, dread and hunger, but at the moment hunger was winning.

She tried not to let her smile falter as she sat down with him in front of the meal, and waited. She had gotten it for him, and although she had already sneaked a little nibble, she wasn't about to start digging into it before him.

"It's always nice to talk," She said quietly, her mind already wondering about what.

Herryk placed a paw against the dinner they were about to share though his gaze remained on Pur's face. He pushed the prey towards her with a dip of his head, indicating that she should eat first. "Eat." His tone did not allow for disagreement, and Herryk leaned back on his haunches.

"You will come home with me tomorrow."

Smooth, Herryk. The smoothest lion around.

"As my wife."

Smoother still. As much as he did not want to, Herryk would take her home to meet his family, to meet the pride he seemed to despise so much.

Pur had just about gotten ready to take her first bite of the meal, as per Herryk's request, when his words stung her ears like the biggest colony of bees she had ever encountered.

"You will come home with me tomorrow. As my wife."

Her jaw went numb and slacked slightly as she raised her head to meet his gaze. He said what? Quickly her expression of disbelief turned into a smile so bright it could rival the sun, and her ghostly white eyes twinkled like stars in her happiness.

Hunger was suddenly gone and replaced with the most excitement Pur had ever felt. She was going to be a wife! Herryk's wife! His family! A real family where she was loved and cherished, not beaten and told she was worthless. She'd get to go out in the open now and meet the other lions she had spied from the edge of the woods. But wait, did that mean...?

Her excitement faltered slightly, and she got up, rushing to Herryk's side with a concerned gaze she asked, "We'll still get to live in the forest... right?"

This place was her home now, after all.

It was Herryk's turn to falter at that small, concerned question. His heart thud in his chest and those amber eyes warmed considerably. Perhaps a part of him had come to accept the events she spoke of. Perhaps a part of him had come to want those things. These emotions were hard for Herryk to speak of - in time, quite possibly, but for now Herryk was glad that Pur was pleased by his words. He was even more pleased that she seemed worried they would be leaving the forest.

"Yes."

Hesitantly the large lion leaned forward and pressed his nose against her cheek. It was the closest he'd come to showing her any sort of affection, and as he pulled back Herryk gestured with a paw that she should eat.

"I will stay with you tonight, here, in the forest."

Relief washed over Pur quite noticeably, and her smile returned to her as Herryk told her they could stay and leaned in to press his nose against her cheek. The tip of her nose and ears twinged pink from the gesture of affection and Pur almost missed his gesture for her to eat because she was smiling so much.

"Good thing I changed the bedding this morning," Pur said absentmindedly as she dug into the kill.

She was excited now. Excited for everything. Not just Herryk's affection. Not just that he was staying tonight with her, but everything. Becoming his wife, meeting the rest of the family. At the moment all she knew was Odd, and she had only caught glimpses of Calder.

And Herryk's father. She would get to meet him as well. Inside she panicked for a moment. Herryk was not fond of his father, in less than the way she wasn't fond of her mother, but he was still not fond of him. She only hoped it would not become an issue for them in the future.

She ripped a piece of meat from the carcass and ate it down, licking her maw and her hands each time she did it. It was a habit she had grown accustom to. If she didn't clean herself with each bite her fur would stain. She looked to Herryk and smiled again. She liked this seat... next to him.

Herryk didn't bite back the purr that rumbled in his chest as quickly as he would've liked, so the noise he made was a garbled-sounding cough. Annoyed with himself, Herryk chuffed loudly to cover up the noise. He watched Pur eat in silence, blinking slowly at her as she finished.

"Wife," he said softly, watching her with an expression that would be impossible to read. There was no telling what was going on behind those amber eyes as they lingered on the pinkish blush that had tinged both the tips of her ears and her nose.

Tomorrow things would change. He would have to share his Ghost with the others in his pride - his mother, his father, his brothers and sisters. Herryk drew his gaze down Pur's pretty face, his eyes narrowing abruptly. Tomorrow things would change, but tonight she was his and his alone... and Herryk was not about to let such an opportunity pass him by.

"Finish eating," he whispered quietly as if speaking too loudly would shatter the moment, "and take your tired Husband to bed."
