< Tacos, tacos, TACOS, TACOS. >

Yes I'm quite aware th-

< TACOS, TACOS! >

Ami let out a sigh. She was headed down to the cafeteria for some well earned food, as well as a few bags of tea for later when she cracked open some books, zoned Junpei out and just relaxed with classic literature. Oh man that sounded delicious. Maybe she'd read Sherlock Holmes today-

< TACOS. >

Yeah, this was going to be a great trip to the cafeteria. Ami sighed and pushed through the doors, grabbing herself some food and walking through the line. The cashier gave her an odd look when she came out with 5 teabags, but didn't say anything. Quietly, she turned around and started heading back to her room.

There might have been tacos in the dining hall, but that was not what Gale had come there for. Instead, he had opted for a glass of water and a plate of fish and chips.

Or what he had hoped might have been fish and chips, but was really something soggy and white that might have been fish and some sodden, floppy things that only vaguely resembled French fries and quite possibly could have been mistaken for something else entirely.

Carrying his tray to the table, Gale slid into the nearest seat, and crossed one leg over the other, pulling his meal towards him and flipping open one of the comic books that Bix had gotten him for Christmas.

<< A wise way to spend your time. >> yawned Jinhai, with an amused tone of voice.

"Like I need you to approve what I do with my time," said Gale absently, turning a page and forgetting that he usually responded to the weapon in the confines of his mind.

Wherever she might of been going, Ami had an entirely new destination. The moment Gale opened that beautiful British mouth, Ami had set a new course. Her direction? Sexy British accent land.

< Wot if aye tawked in a Bri'ish- >

Shut up. Shut up right now.

Ami located the source of the voice and was somewhat surprised to find it belonged to one of the younger hunters. She reminded herself that because of his coat, that meant he was an advanced hunter (or was it intermediate? Ami couldn't quite remember which was which, but she at least knew he was higher than her) so she had to act with a LITTLE bit of respect. It was really hard though, considering he was so much younger!

She took a seat across the table from the blonde boy, setting her teabags down in front of her, and put her head in her hands. "Hi," she said, completely unaware that she was being a total and COMPLETE creeper at the moment, "My name's Ami. You were in the pod room with us I think.... Weren't you?" Was she just using this as an excuse to make him talk more? Maybe.

Gale had been enjoying a nice supper by himself.

At least until someone new came and slipped into the seat across from him, noisily clattering around, teabags slapping the table. Gale, with his cup of water halfway to his lips, slowly lowered it, giving the new arrival a slightly startled look. He recognized her as one of the new trainees - Ami Raine, Moon Division, said the mental notes he had been making since their waking - but he did not really know her other than the fact that she was a few years older than he was.

"Er," he said, lowering the glass and giving her an appraising sort of look. "Yes, I was. My name is Gale Gentry; I'm from the Death Division."

<< You're so formal. >>

Shut it.

"Really?" she said aimlessly, having no idea where this conversation was going. She just wanted to hear him TALK. That accent. That accent.

< Ami has a crush, Ami has a crush. >

I do NOT. Ugh you are so immature.

< Cruuuush. >

"So death division," she said, attempting to distract herself from her lovely companions stupid voice, "Tell me about that." She realized how stupid that request sounded and then said, "I mean ... I was only briefed on how the moon division works. I don't know much about the others soooo..." Jesus that sounded stupid. Why was she even here.

< Because you have a- >

Shut UP.

Gale was giving her a somewhat suspicious look, but he decided that she was harmless (Jinhai was still laughing, though at what he had no idea), and set down his water glass slowly, reaching for his fork again.

"The Death Division is just one of five divisions," said Gale, pushing around the sodden fish on his plate before giving in and forking a piece of it into his mouth, wincing ever so slightly. "The Death Hunters are in charge of information gathering. We hold the keys to the research, the backgrounds on our missions, and anything else that might be important."

He shrugged a bit and took another bite. "It's a bit of an interesting division, but I like it. How are you liking Deus Ex so far?"

Ami's head was in her hands, with her elbows on the table and everything as she listened to him talk. Jesus, everything was better in Britain. They had the best TV shows, amazing fashion, and their accents. Ami was officially locking up Gale and never letting him leave.

"Five divisions huuuuh?" she drawled, not even paying attention to what she was saying. By now she was drifting off into eternity, daydreaming about herself in Britain ...

< OH MY JACK. >

Its a good thing you just yelled in my mind, because if that was my eardrum it would be BLOWN. What the hell Jumpy?!

< He's ... he's just eating it. Ami this is ... This guy is horrible. Don't talk to him. >

He's just eating fish and chips I don't-

< I need a moment. >

Just like that, Junpei fell dramatically silent. Ami was both a little thankful for the silence, and a little weirded out by how strange silence sounded without her little ningyo companion. She realized Gale was waiting on her answer, and she said, "Ahuuhhh," real smooth-like, "Deus! Yeah uhhh, I like it so far. It's huge and hard to navigate though. The ah ... weapons thing is hard to get used to." She unconsciously checked the fish clip in her hair that was essentially Junpei. "Does everyone have a weapon here?" she said eagerly, which essentially meant, "do you have a weapon, because I want to hear you talk about it."

She was staring at him rather oddly, which made Gale feel slightly uncomfortable, but he shrugged it off, instead taking another bite of the soggy fish. He wasn't even entirely certain she was paying all that much attention, his eyes narrowing slightly at her far off gaze...

But then she started a bit, stammered, and Gale shrugged mentally.

Strange girl...

<< Everyone here is strange. >> remarked Jinhai, in a bored sort of tone.

" 'That weapons thing,' hmm?" said Gale dryly, pushing his food aimlessly around his plate. "And yes, everyone has one. This is mine - " He held up his left hand, the ring on his index finger glowing slightly. " - and his name is Jinhai. He's a dragon and a bit cocky and snarky at times - "

<< Hey, now. Let's not get carried away with the compliments. >>

" - but he's all right, I suppose."

Ami smiled, examining the ring. It was beautifully made, small golden runes that mimiced the golden runes on her hair clip. "He sounds ... lovely," she said, sarcasm clear in her voice. The dragon part interested her, but from the way Gale was describing him, he didn't sound pleasant at all. It was Gale's fault for describing him so negatively.

Not that Ami's description was any kinder. "Junpei, that's the name of mine. They both sound sort of Asian-y right?" Ami was not invested in the ways of Asia- her heart was in Europe. "He's ... obnoxious. Like a typical teenage boy- oh no offense. You're not typical." In her mind, all she could think was you have an accent~, but she didn't say anything.

< Really? >

What happened to your moment?

Ami looked down and reluctantly repeated what Gale had said earlier, "But ... he's ... alright." Ami pulled the black and golden clip out of her hair, revealing the intricate scale patterned fish, and held it out for Gale to see. "I'm afraid your ring is far more regal."

Gale idly brushed his fingers over the silver of the ring. Truth be told, while Jinhai could be all of those things - and more - there was no doubt in his mind that it was the right match for him. They bickered, they squabbled, they called each other names - but when everything came down to it, they worked together in a way that was beneficial to the both of them. And Gale relied on Jinhai.

Even if he was obnoxious at times.

"Really," said Gale, in a slightly deadpan voice, arching one pale gold eyebrow. "I'm not."

It wasn't really a question, but he had the distinct feeling she was digging a hole for herself, and he was just going to sit here and be amused. Ami was certainly a little stranger than he'd initially thought, but she seemed to at least mean well.

His eyes flickered towards the clip. "Ah," he said, with a nod. "A hair clip - Eva has one of those two."

Thinking of Eva made him smile inwardly, but his face remained as impassive as ever - at least until Ami's last comment, and then Gale let out a mildly derisive snort, shaking his head.

"Regal is not a term I'd use for it, I'll say that."

Ami took a quick breath, realizing Gale was toying with her a little. She was a tad smarter than that Gale, c'mon. "Not typical as in, mature. I haven't heard a single imbecile comment come out of your mouth." That was a compliment Gale. Ami doesn't give them out a lot, so it might sound sort of foreign. Her bad.

"Nevermind that though," she said, brushing her hand through the air like she was side sweeping the subject itself. "Who's Eva?" she asked. Ami felt a tad ... defensive that another trainee had a clip identical to her own. She'd been under the impression that Junpei was ... well her special piece of jewelry. She wasn't aware that other people had the clip as well.

For that matter, did that mean someone else- apparently Eva- had a Junpei in their mind too? She frowned slightly, but not enough to show real emotion.

"Well, Jinhai is some sort of dragon, so I would assume his heritage is something Asian," replied Gale, taking another bite of the soggy fish on his plate before setting his fork down and pushing the tray away. No matter how hard the cafeteria tried to make their food good, it never was.

Fish was not supposed to taste like old socks.

"And thank you," said Gale, a bit airily, trying to conceal his amusement. "I never thought I was all that typical, what with being a trained sniper at the age of sixteen and all that."

He was lightly teasing again, but at least it meant he was in a relatively good mood.

"And Eva's a...friend of mine," said Gale, idly twisting the ring around his finger. "She's a trainee, like yourself. You may have seen her around - short dark hair, usually has an absurdly bright purple scarf. She's pretty friendly."

Ami shook her head and said, "No I can't say I've seen many of those. So you're only sixteen? Younger than what I would've said." Also a good thing. Maturity was a virtue for Ami. She was liking this kid more and more with each accented sentence that came out of his mouth.

She tried to picture the hunter that Gale described, but nothing really came to mind. Ami was a big introvert- it was no surprise she hadn't met many people when she didn't really venture outside her room except to eat.

"I can't say I've met her, but I will certainly keep an eye out." That is, if she was anything like Gale. "Sorry, am I keeping you from eating?" she said, noting his displaced tray.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 28, 2012 11:52 am

"Yes," said Gale, and there was a slight dry tone to his voice as he idly twisted the ring around his gloved finger again, the habit one that he often forgot he was doing until after the fact. "I'm only sixteen. And probably the youngest you'll meet here, other than Ennéa, since I'm pretty sure she's still a few months younger than I am. But otherwise, yes I am the youngest hunter on the island."

<< And the shortest. >>

Shut your mouth.

<< I don't have one anymore, remember? >>

Good grief.

"I think you'll like her," said Gale, and there was a softened expression on his face, hardly noticeable unless one looked extraordinarily close, and it was gone almost as soon as it had come. "And no, the food is what's keeping me from eating. You're fine"

But time turned out to be a bit later than he expected. Gale pushed his chair back and stood, reaching for his half empty tray.

"Though admittedly, I have duty in a few minutes," he said, and then held out his hand towards Ami.

"But it was nice meeting you."

As Gale walked away, Ami let out a very, very audible sigh. She had so much to think about.
