Welcome to Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Benefit Dinner!

It seems that the schools have tried their best to outdo themselves, and a moderately nice restaurant downtown - River Oaks - has volunteered their building for use for the night. Tables are scattered across a large room that resembles a cross between an eatery and an event hall. The ceiling is low and cozy, but the room is relatively empty - the small tables scattered about have been arranged to make space for a small dance floor in the center. The bar and kitchen are located in an aclove next to the restrooms, and large windows look out onto the street.

Tables have been pre-reserved for those participating in the blind date part of the event, but there is plenty of seating for everyone it would seem, as the little two-seaters hardly take up the vast expanse of the dining room. The decor is very eclectic - prints and colors are matched and mismatched in tablecloths and sheer covers so that is runs together in a kind of rainbow mess. As if that weren't jarring enough, the wait staff and hosts are dressed in similarly comic uniform. Satin military-style jacket and pants combos in neon colors certainly make them stand out from the crowd!

A sign indicates that you are allowed to find your seat on your own, or ask the volunteer staff for help finding your assigned table.

PHOTO OP
As you walk in the door, you are temporarily blinded by flashing bulbs - someone is taking photos!

I'll be keeping a list here of participants and raffling off some free couple art at the end of the event. heart

You notice as you walk in the door there's a giant poster plastered to a glass panel, with a transparent face. People are stepping behind it and having their friends take pictures -a neat souvenir, or a Valentine's card for that special someone?

(Just save the picture to your computer - it's a transparent PNG - and drop your character's photo behind the main layer & add text!)

You've recieved your postcard in the mail. Perhaps you were excited - someone new, or someone old and dear - or perhaps it was a bit of a disappointment. The alternative is worse still; maybe they seem to have gotten you confused with someone else and given you a partner with the wrong personality or even gender! Whatever the case may be, it's game night, and despite your misgivings you've decided to come out and see how things go down.

For those of you who didn't manage to get in touch with your dates beforehand, the tables are labelled clearly with couples' names. Surprisingly there are two tables with three seats -threesomes?! What could be going on? It seems no one has a clue, as everyone (including the wait staff) look harried and off kilter.

Well, at least the music is ok. Take a seat, and someone will be with you shortly.

At first, you thought it would be fun. I mean, volunteering for a school hosted event on VALENTINE'S DAY...The romance, the intrigue! What wasn't to like?

Well, the uniforms.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Yes, ladies, that is one size fits all satin.

And as if that weren't bad enough, it looks like there's a KID'S TABLE at the event. You're not getting paid enough to babysit! (Well, actually, you're not getting paid at all.) So who are these hapless selfless volunteers who are putting their holiday fun on the line for the sake of the community? Well, ROLL CALL!

THIS EVENT OPENS o2.13.12 @ 5PM PST

Oh boy. It's a Monday night, but instead of staying home and watching cartoons, you are inexplicably stuck at a restaurant with a bunch of strangers. And their children. What's worse, they won't even let you sit with your mom and dad. You were instead rudely delegated to some kind of KID'S table. The nerve! It's clear from the decor that they had NOT planned on entertaining kids your age - everything seems like it was geared to entertain a five year old.

Parents SUCK.

But wait... what is that over there in that bucket?!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Mixed in with all the boring dolls and stuffed animals are what appear to be plastic crossbows loaded with rubber darts. Maybe it won't be such a bad night after all...!

THIS EVENT OPENS o2.13.12 @ 5PM PST

Diners can see from their tables an old wooden door next to the kitchen that presumably leads
to the outside. Occasionally, scratching and mewling sounds can be heard issuing from it...

It's also awfully close to the only restrooms. Perhaps you'll open it and take a peek?

[If your character decides to open the door, please quote Ravvlet in your post!]

THIS THREAD IS NOW OPEN!

Welcome to Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Benefit Dinner!

It seems that the schools have tried their best to outdo themselves, and a moderately nice restaurant downtown - River Oaks - has volunteered their building for use for the night. The ceiling is low and cozy, but the room is relatively empty - the small tables scattered about have been arranged to make space for a small dance floor in the center.

CURRENT EVENT

BE SEATED

Have a seat! You can either ask one of the waiters or waitresses to take you to your table or assume you selected on on your own. Couples participating in blind dates are assumed to be at 'reserved' tables. Tonight is going to be pretty low key event-wise to give everyone a chance to get in and get some posts underway.

Later tonight, the current questions for the 20 Questions game will be posted, and a complete list of couples will be posted, for your reference.

For those with chibi senshi or guardian cats - there are things planned for you as well! Chibi should be moved to the kid's room, and can feel free to RP exploring the area- it's really geared toward younger children besides the rather out of place looking bow and arrow sets. Please assume that, for tonight, you are being corralled in the room by Guen and therefore can't sneak off yet! I promise that shenanigans will ensue soon enough, but I would like to give everyone a chance to get settled in.

Cats on the other hand, if any of you wish to play them, can congregate outside the back door by the dumpster if they wish. You will have the opportunity to engage in shenanigans of your own once things get underway.

I hope to kick off the mini events tomorrow night after the conclusion of the Love Bites V-day event. If you haven't checked that out yet, you should head over there now!

Don't forget to check the playlists for the music that's playing. Food is not being served yet - assume that the wait staff are still shuffling people in and taking drink orders.

Thank you all for participating and I hope we will have a great time!

Kathryn clutched her small bag tightly against her chest with her right hand as she stared at the exterior of the restaurant. She'd managed to scrounge a nice outfit for the evening even though she was unsure as to why. Her gaze flicked the the address on the door before flashing down to the postcard that she held onto just as tightly in her left. This looked like the place. She'd left a note explaining to Tallulah that she'd most likely be out past her usual time this evening but did not leave an explanation as to why.

Why had she jumped at the opportunity to take part in a Blind Date? Well it was too late to turn around now. Taking a deep breath Kathryn steadied her frayed nerves before pulling open the door and letting herself into the building. As she stepped inside her sight was temporarily taken away by the blinding flash of a camera. Shaking her head Kat glared at the picture taker before noticing the sign and the restaurant area beyond. Apparently they were to find their own seats. Kathryn jammed her postcard into her bag and began wandering about the room looking for the table that bore her name. She'd noticed the two tables that seemed to have three seats instead of two before shaking her head. That was bound to be messy.

Finally Kathryn came across the table that bore her own name. It was in the middle of the room and Kat shuffled her feet awkwardly before draping her jacket and placing it over the back of her seat. She took her bag and extracted her cellphone before silencing the ringer. It looked like she was one of the first people here.

Lily shuffled into the restuarant after having spent the last half hour getting Alex to help her pick a pair of shoes and trying to make sure her curls wouldn't escape tonight hairstyle. Really she had far to many shoes and while she had gotten far better at matching up and buying her own clothes in the last year, she still got a little turned about sometimes.

Her outfit she thought was simply enough. She hadn't wanted to seem over dressed, really she wasn't at all certain what she should wear to this sort of thing. Still she got dressed up enough and headed out hoping enough wasnt to much.

Finding her tabled was easy enough, how could it not be? Her table was arranged for three and most of other tabled were not, actually she didn't think she seen another set for three. Oh it was so awkward. Still she smiled and took her seat happily waiting for her dates to arrive.

Seraphina came dressed to impress having given her hair a very vintage look, strutting in an outfit that hugged all the right places and showed off her long legs, which were her most favorite asset. She smirked slightly looking down at her card once more. The statement about the boat amused her very highly and she hoped her date was as fun as he appeared to be.

She sauntered over to her tabled wanting of to have all eyes on her for a moment and hoping to make the guys drool, if only for a second. Mission accomplished she happily slide into her chair being careful of a choice of clothing not wanting to have a wardrobe malfunction just yet.

Eliza practically skipped into the restaurant, an explosion of color that was a bit overwhelming, despite the more muted hoodie that she wore open over the dress. Anyone who knew Eliza knew this was to be expected, she never matched and her clothing style was that of falling into the closet. It did however appear as though she made an effort on some level. She did actually brush her hair making it fall in waves and not the all over the place still she was know for.

She already knew her date and she couldn't help but to laugh herself silly at the fact. She was going enjoy the night, not at all thinking on terms of blind date, but more a fun party, but Eliza was like that, still all imagination despite her 15 years.

Aitana had signed up for this whole valentines thing after prompting from her foster family. Had they known that she was going on a blind date with a girl they might have changed their mind and taken back their money. Or maybe not. The brazilian had never been particularly open with her interest in males and females, not that she was the sort that was actively seeking out a mate. She had more important things to do!!

But that didn't mean she couldn't have a night of fun with this 'blind date' thing.

Aitana was a strange mixture of masculine and feminine, her hair loose and girly, her red dress short with a line of ruffles running the length of it. Her posture was anything but feminine though, the soft definition of atheletic muscle visible on her crossed arms, and her tanned face lacking any sort of makeup. Finding the table with her name on it, she pulled out her postcard once more before flopping down into her seat, glancing at the information provided.

The girl was not exactly Aitana's type, but she was cute in her own mousey way. The description provided had been perhaps more confusing. Aitana had to look up the word 'dork', and though she'd never really gotten a full understanding of it, it was easy enough to see that it had been a derogatory one, which had puzzled the proud girl as to why anyone would say such a thing about themselves. Aitana however was definately a stud! And she was strong enough to lift someone off their feet. So only time would tell.

Leaned back in her chair, she tapped the leg of the table with her foot as she listened to the music. Hopefully this whole thing wouldn't be too frilly and girly.

Parting with $50 had been a real stretch for Corey. It had taken many hours of debating at the arcade and later at home to decide to that it was worth it. And in the end it'd only been worth it to not have to be alone on Valentine's Day. Corey Boone had MORE than enough experience with that, and it was about time he did something about it. Besides.. he'd decided to non chalantly stick some fliers for his arcade out around the neighborhood, advertising the 'perfect' place to take someone for a valentine date. So he could totally write this off as a business dinner!

He had been curious about who he might get matched up with for the blind date. He was cautious not to get his hopes up too high, knowing quite well that he might get matched with someone less than 'legal'. After all how many eligible legal ladies were they? He never saw them running around, but then.. he was usually locked away in the arcade. The surprise when he finally got his card though was one he was not prepared for. The cute teacher that he'd met that one time! It wasn't a blind date at all. Though she'd scolded him he thought she was pretty sweet and fun. He probably didn't stand a chance at getting laid though, alas.

He'd still have fun, especially if he could succeed in fulfilling Alexis' request. Hopefully she hadn't been dissapointed getting her card!

Recalling Seraphina's advice Corey dug through his closet for his cleanest and least ripped up pair of tight fitting jeans and his one and only buttoned up shirts (a soft powder blue), tying his hair back into a simple ponytail. He'd helped himself to a small teddy bear from the claw machine, a set of 8 crayons from the ticket booth, and couple of the balloons (usually used for birthdays at the arcades). Using a ribbon that had been sitting in the lost and found for a few months he attached the balloons with a small bow around the toy's neck.

Having arrived early enough to put up the fliers Corey was able to set the small gift on their table, arranging it before he set to waiting patiently for the familiar face. He had to pull out her chair when she arrived after all!

It wasn't parting with fifty dollars that bothered Harmony. At the time she'd considered it a reasonable fee for the chance to be surprised and possibly swept off her feet. She wasn't realistically looking for a boyfriend to come from this event because, hey, she was growing a bit cynical. But at the very least she had dinner and a good time and didn't spend Valentines Day seeing her mom and Tony going out and being happy while she stayed home to watch Sleepless in Seattle or something. No, that wasn't what bothered her. All she had to do was look at the post cards for her heart to fall straight to her feet.

Jett Draven.

The name managed to send a scratch straight up her spine like nails on a chalkboard. She should have written anything but him but how was she to know he'd put his name into something like this? He had a girlfriend! That was the source of the mess in the first place! That's why she was standing in the doorway and debating whether or not to go in. By the description on the card she knew he couldn't possibly have filled it out for himself which she assumed meant that horribly fake girlfriend of his would be around somewhere. What awkward situation would ensue this time?

The only reason she didn't just up and leave was for Arian. She knew him, met him and hung out with him a couple of times. She didn't want him to feel like he was stood up as he probably paid the fifty dollars for himself for tonight, too. Besides, he seemed like a very sweet guy. If it wasn't for the Jett mishap she might have been very happy with how things came out.

In the end Harm took a deep breath and stepped through the door. Once inside it would be impossible to leave...she hoped. At least she'd dressed up for the occasion, wearing something kind of conservative with her own unique fashion. If she was going to be in a private hell she might as well look good.

The dress code had said formal wear, so Arian had swapped his jeans (his usual trousers of choice when not in the shorts of his school uniform) for a pair of smart black trousers and paired it with a white shirt and black waistcoat. The dark-hired teen had forgone a bow tie or even a tie, but had dug out some cuff links – even if they were froggie cuff links. Although at least the cuff links matched the ribbon tying back his long dark hair into a low ponytail.

If it hadn’t been for the fact that Saffy had shelled out fifty dollars for this thing, then there was no way that Arian would have turned up to something like this. As it was the dark-haired teen was already half regretting turning up and being dazzled on entrance by the flash of a camera hadn’t helped. The whole blind date thing seemed so incredibly awkward – and that was without the whole mix-up in postcards thing – and yes to Arian it was most obviously a mix-up.

It took finding the table – a table that was most clearly set up for three people – for Arian to begin to think that maybe, just maybe the two post cards thing hadn’t been some sort of mistake. Although the fact that his was only one of two tables set up for three wasn’t making the dark-haired teen feel any more comfortable about being there. To be honest right now about the only saving grace to the whole thing was the fact that he at least knew one of the faces on the two postcards, albeit not very well and Harmony had always seemed nice the few times they’d met.

Almost as thinking of Harmony had conjured her, Arian looked up in time to notice the mint-haired teen enter the room herself and gave a small wave from where he was over by the table.

Lian didn’t want this. He really didn’t. When he received the cards in the mail—not one, but two—he hadn’t been surprised to realize that one of his friends had signed him up for this blind date business. First she had set him up with a girl named Jada, and now this. The young didn’t particularly like Valentine’s Day, if only because he wasn’t too interested in finding a lover of his own and found it distasteful to watch other people stick their tongues down each other’s throats. If he could, Lian would have gladly abandoned the social function in favor of spending a day at the tennis courts, but that also meant abandoning a couple of women. With a heavy heart, the college student dug through his closet.

Unlike Lily, Lian had chosen to dress more simply. He donned a white shirt and black vest as well as a pair of slacks and his usual pair of boots. Frowning as usual, he reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear, the silver cuff dimly gleaming in the light. The man walked into the restaurant, his hands buried in his pockets. At the moment, there weren’t that many people, which made it easier for him to spot one of the two tables neatly arranged for three. His brows furrowed at the sight. So it hadn’t been a mistake in paperwork after all. Bright blue eyes softly lit up with recognition at the red-haired girl. He strode over to her and seated himself. “Hey,” Lian greeted curtly. His gaze lingered on her clothes as he attempted to gather up the words for a compliment. “You look…nice.” Not exactly the kind of outfit he liked, but it certainly wasn’t ugly either.

-----------

To be honest, Sydney had been tempted to sign up for the event herself. However, the more she pondered the idea the more she came to the slow realization that blind dates weren’t exactly her thing. While she admittedly loved to chat with others and had no qualms with speaking to strangers, romance wasn’t exactly on her priority list at the moment. If love somehow struck in the head she certainly wouldn’t ignore, but for now the freckled redhead wasn’t going to fervently seek it out. Instead, the high school student found herself awkwardly fiddling with one of the strings on her brightly-colored outfit.

Wide, curious eyes stared at the shiny fabric as she tugged at her sleeves. Although she had been expecting typical waitress and waiter uniforms, this wasn’t so bad either. Slowly, the corners of her lips stretched into a pleased grin. In fact, these uniforms were pretty cool! Perhaps they were a bit silly, but they would certainly catch people’s eyes! As a volunteer, this seemed to be a pretty vital thing. She happily hummed along to the song, despite her failure to recall the tune. The waitress flitted around the tables, occasionally calling out to others, “Does anyone need help finding their seat?”

-----------

Normally, Hayden would have preferred to wear a tank top, hoodie, and a random pair of jeans picked from her packed closet, but it seemed the event had called for a formal dress code. After she spent a few minutes sighing and huffing over the sudden revelation, the young woman eventually dragged herself over to her closet and sifted through her small collection of dresses. Eventually, she opted for a simple green dress and matching flats. She adjusted her light green bandana as she strolled into the restaurant. She hummed, disappointed with how small the current crowd appeared to be. Hayden restrained herself from snapping her fingers. Drat! Perhaps it would have been a smarter choice to arrive later, but oh well.

Sighing, she looked around for her table. After politely waving off an oddly-dressed redhead—was she a waitress…?—Hayden managed to finally find her seat and slid into the chair. The black-haired girl leaned into her chair and crossed her arms, drumming her fingers as she patiently waited for her date to arrive while quietly humming a tune completely different to the current song playing in the background.
