Lycander moved about the kitchen grabbing the seasoning while the ground beef he had on the stove cooked. Next to that skillet was a second that he was currently finishing up frying the last tortilla for homemade tacos. He flipped the tortilla and folded it so it took on the appearance of a taco shell (in theory).

The redhead grinned. He'd planned this night out and worked hard to keep it a surprise from his roommate. Lycander was fairly confident he'd managed to succeed in keeping Requiem from suspecting he had anything planned for tonight. After all, it was Valentine's Day and Lycander planned on making it special for his boyfriend. So he'd sent Requiem out to pick up a few errands for him while he prepared everything. And he was rather proud of himself at how well he'd done in the short time he had.

Adding the taco seasoning to the meat, he stirred it around before snatching down a few of the nicer glass bowls from one of the cupboards. He dumped cheese into one and lettuce into another. The third he added Spanish rice to, carrying the three bowls out to the dining table. The table itself had been set for two with black plates and wine glasses set out. A pair of candles sat to either side of a small glass vase holding a few crimson roses. Maybe a little cheesy overall, but Lycander didn't care. He just hoped that it wasn't too much. Though it was probably comical to see such an elegant set up when he was in casual wear and had TV turned on for soft background noise.

The meat started to sizzle and the redhead bounced back into the kitchen. He was probably out of time, but everything was pretty much set up how he'd envisioned it! Now, all he was missing was the one he'd done this all for.

Requiem, with all the subtlety of a graceful dancing cow, had, in fact, no idea what holiday it was, mostly because he was not exactly the type to even keep up with such things. All he knew was that Lycander had been acting extraordinarily strange as of late - humming to himself, locking himself in his room without explanation, giving no real answers when Requiem had asked, confused, what was in that bag and why was he hiding it. All he had gotten was "It's nothing, don't worry about it" and a squeeze of his hand.

Which left Requiem feeling very confused.

Now returning from the errands Lycander had asked him to run - as well as running a few of his own - Requiem blew a few strands of pale hair away from his face and made his way up the steps of the building he lived in with the redhead. It was cold outside, and the jacket around his shoulders was pulled tight, the hood over his head and hiding a rather significant change he had implemented that afternoon, mostly on a whim. The hair, combined with a set of brand new clothes, was something he had decided to rather spontaneously, but it was not something all that exciting.

Pushing open the door, Requiem struggled in with the bags, brushing snow from his coat.

"Lycander, I'm home," he called out distractedly, not noticing the entire setup behind him as he set the bags down and fussed over them, his hood still up and dusted with thick white flakes.

"I think I got everything you needed..."

Okay so tacos might not have been a super romantic type of dinner on this day, but they were homemade tacos! And who didn't love homemade tacos? Besides, super fancy just didn't seem right. Plus, Lycander wasn't that great of a cook. And he hadn't wanted to order food. It would have lacked a personal touch. And since this would be their first Valentine's together...yeah the redhead was taking the excuse to be a little mushy and adorable tonight.

He heard the door open and Requiem's pleasent voice call out. A smile split his face as he finished scooping meat into a taco and placing it on the plate full of them. All the toppings were already on the table.

"Welcome back!" Lycander called back way too cheerfully. He chuckled softly. "I imagine you did, darling."

"Can you bring the dessert stuff into the kitchen for me?" He asked, grabbing the plate of tacos and carrying it out to the table. "The rest can wait until later. You're just in time, Requiem! I have dinner all set and ready to go!" The redhead grinned throwing a quick glance over his shoulder wanting to see his face when he saw everything.

The apartment smelled...different. It always smelled good (Lycander made certain of that), but tonight the scents of slowly sizzling meat wafted across the room to his nose, rather than the scent of flowers or cinnamon. Requiem's brows rose as he straightened, bags in hand, and carried them to the kitchen.

"I think I got everything..." he said again, settling the bags on the counter, and with his back to Lycander, he shrugged out of his coat, draping it over one of his arms as he peered into the bags. His newly cut hair sifted against the back of his neck, the new clothes still a bit stiff as he moved, boots making quiet thumping noises on the tiled kitchen floor.

"I've got...fresh fruit, whipped cream, some chocolate..."

There was a rustling noise as Requiem began emptying out the bags, then a clunk as he started pushing things into the ice box, his coat swaying on his arm.

"So what are we having for..." he started to say as he turned around, but then stopped abruptly, his words dying in his throat. It was only then that he noticed that the lights were set low, the dining room table was set, and there was a vase of flowers in the middle - a vase of roses.

Requiem felt his cheeks dust red. He took a hesitant step towards the table, still clutching his coat.

"Lycander, what..." he said, but his throat felt a little tight. "What's...what's this?"

Something was different, he thought. He couldn't put his finger on it and had no idea what it was, but there was just something different about Requiem. Or maybe he was being paranoid since he was trying so hard to make tonight perfect and lovely.

"Mmm...chocolate and fruit with whipped cream." He grinned.

Lycander carefully placed the plate of tacos on the table and stepped back to stand just off to the side where he could still see the kitchen and Requiem as he walked in. The corners of his lips curled slowly up as his roommate didn't notice anything right away. But that wasn't totally uncommon and worked to his advantage. He had a wonderful view of how he reacted to seeing everything setup.

Of course, he hadn't been expecting to see the new Requiem. Lycander found himself staring, mouth slightly agape. Was that...that was Requiem...right? Course it is! He couldn't pull his emerald gaze away as he took in the new look. And boy did he very much like it! Those little warm tingling feelings fluttered around his stomach as he just stared.

With some difficulty he managed to shut his mouth and clear his throat. Ah, there was the reaction he wanted to see! Lycander moved from where he stood just to the side and slid an arm around Requiem's shoulders.

"This, darling," he said quietly, that dangerous and bright grin of his flashing. "Is a special dinner." He leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. "Happy Valentine's day, Requiem!" The redhead tugged the coat playfully. "And I must say, you look quite dashing!"

With a bounce to his step, Lycander moved towards one of the two chairs, pulling it out and giving his boyfriend a dramatic bow and a sly grin. "I hope you don't mind tacos." He added, glancing up through the strands of shaggy red hair covering his face.

Requiem, as always, was completely oblivious to Lycander's surprise at his new look. He hadn't thought much about changing it - at first it had been a rather belated celebration of his graduation - a really belated celebration, considering that had been months ago, but really Requiem had just decided it was time for a change. Since he'd forgotten that it was, in fact, a holiday - a romantic holiday - his new clothing had nothing to do with pleasing his boyfriend.

Though from the look on Lycander's face, he'd certainly done that.

The kiss to his cheek, as always, made Requiem flush red, as did the arm around his shoulder. He still was not used to being in a relationship like this, even after all this time, and his stomach flip-flopped, butterflies rampaging. Quietly, uncertainly, he followed Lycander to the table, glancing down at the chair pulled out, at the candle, the music, the setting...

"You did all of this for me?" he said, in some state of disbelief. "I..."

He didn't even know what to say, his fingers clenching subconsciously on the hem of Lycander's shirt, curling and uncurling.

"Thank you," said Requiem faintly, and sat down.

For all his confidence and overabundant amount of energy, Lycander's heart was beating three times its normal speed. He was nervous about everything. Afraid that maybe he'd taken it too far or hadn't done enough. He knew that Requiem was not used to such things as a romantic sort of holiday - the romantic holiday to be exact - but he'd still had that strong (sometimes ridiculous) urge to do something crazy and extravagant just for his boyfriend.

If he was being honest, he was not used to any of this either. Though it didn't show very often. He'd always gone about things in a 'half in, half out' sort of way. Look but not touch. Flirt but never get serious. He'd never found anyone that made him feel a strong sort of draw towards. Until he met Requiem.

He really did love seeing that color appear on his cheeks.

Lycander chuckled, that cheerfully innocent yet sly look dancing about his eyes. "Of course I did! Why wouldn't I do something outrageous like plan a splendid and maybe slightly romantic dinner for you, hmm? Okay so tacos aren't that romantic. But they are homemade!"

He waited until Requiem was seated before straightening and moving to snatch a bottle out of the kitchen and fill the glasses. The liquid was clear and bubbly, appearing at first to be something like champagne. But on closer inspection would be revealed as only sparkling cider. Though the redhead did have champagne and a bottle of wine hidden in the fridge, courtesy of his mother.

"You're most welcome." Lycander murmured, filling Requiem's glass and offering him that warm smile. "Probably silly, using the cider I know. But I figured it was fitting with everything else." He winked and practically bounced back to the other end of the table, sitting down and making a grand gesture with his arms. "Dinner is served, darling!"

He was not good at showing emotion, not good at telling his emotions. For Requiem, things were one big, grey slate and nothing was set in stone. He had never been one for showing too much emotion, either; years of practice had given him the ability to keep his face as expressionless as possible, keeping his chin held high, his eyes straight ahead. Ignoring the blatant stares, the whispered comments, the sneers...it had all grown to be part of Requiem's daily life, something ingrained in his mind.

And then he had met Lycander and everything had been shot to hell. Needless to say, Requiem was still reeling over everything. He was not entirely certain how much longer it would even take him to get used to the fact that Lycander was not just a friend, he was much, much more.

Looking down at the table as Lycander filled his glass made Requiem's face streak pink, his cheeks warm in the glow of the candles. His fingers tensed slightly on the tabletop, curling and uncurling over the tablecloth.

"I...don't know what to say," he mumbled, reaching out a hand and lightly trailing his fingers over the stem of the wine glass, the cider sparkling inside. He turned his face to Lycander, biting his lip, and then smiled shyly, and lifted his glass.

"To us, then."

Watching Requiem's expression, he felt he'd put just the right amount of effort into this dinner and hadn't gone overboard. It made him feel light and giddy seeing that color to the Majin's face. And knowing he'd been the cause of it.

Majin. The word still didn't make him feel any fear or disgust. Lycander never even batted an eye when someone whispered the word or another witch admitted to being a Majin themselves. Yes he knew what they were capable of. Had been on the receiving end before. And yet...here he was, making a splendid valentine's dinner for one very special Majin. One that he was fairly certain had succeeded in stealing his heart. And not in the manner one would think when hearing that phrase connected with a Majin.

Lycander's expression shifted to a special one just for Requiem as he smiled at him. "To us!" He reached out and lifted his own glass, taking a sip before setting it back down again. Then grabbed the plate of tacos, placing a couple on his plate and passing it down to his boyfriend. Following this were the bowls of cheese, tomatoes, rice, and sour cream.

"How is it?" He asked after several minutes of quiet food tasting. "I haven't made tacos in a while, I have to admit. And I hope I didn't go too overboard."
