A scattering of trees pleasantly swayed along the edge of a small meadow. Filtered through the leaves, emerald light dappled the forest floor. It was the sort of place where midsummer dreams echoed across time, even in the depths of winter. Every mote of dust that drifted along was a wayward faerie in the mind's eye. There, across a cluttering of large stones, a tawny-gold wolf danced, nimble and sure-footed. His tongue hung out, pale and pink. His eyes shown, bright as a summer fire. Trailing the treeline, he shared the shadows of the forest and basked in the glory of the open meadow. Above, the sun was a golden ball in a blue sky. For a moment, the male stopped to wonder at it, tongue drawn in and head cocked to one side. He waggled his tail, readied to spring, and with a laugh, launched himself skyward, snapping once, twice and again at the far-off sun. Eyes squeezed shut, he landed in the grass. The wolf swallowed his prize, turned around, and opened his eyes again. The sky was still blue, but he could not see the sun. He shook his head and chuckled. That great firefly of the dawn, it followed him every day for more seasons than the wolf knew, and every day it shown, the wolf had caught and swallowed it. That silly sun, it would never change.

A certain dark grey female lounged on a large, flat stone, soaking up the warmth of the sun. Perhaps she ought to be out gathering information for the pack, or stirring up trouble for the fun of it; however, even she liked to relax from time to time. Gather her thoughts, review what she had been doing recently, plan her next bit of fun. Besides, things had a way of finding her even when she was not looking for them. Given the scent on the wind, it seemed that today would be no different.
Coyote cracked open her mismatched eyes and peered in the direction of the scent. Whoever could it be, wandering out here in this unclaimed territory? Would they know anything useful? More importantly, would they be fun to play with?
She considered going off to find them, but instead decided to stay right where she was. Lethargy was the theme of the day. If the wolf wandered away, so be it. If he decided to wander her way, so much the better. So, the female lay her head on her paws and resumed dozing, willing to let fate decide things for a change.

The honey coated male had paused only momentarily to enjoy his victory over the sun before he carried onward. His tail, which kept an optimistically neutral level, trailed behind him dutifully, bounced with his every step, and occasionally waggled for the apparent joy of it. The wolf stepped around noisy twigs, but the leaf litter of the forest edge still crinkled rather obviously as he trotted along. A flock of red-breasted thrushes broke the treeline and madly flapped skyward over the meadow. The wolf tilted his head toward them, and as he did the winds shifted and blew a fateful gust across his senses. It was the scent of another wolf. A she-wolf. With a little smile and a spark in his eye, he turned to follow his curiosity. It was rare to find a she-wolf that was not pleasant company, even counting the most grouchy among them. The lone fellow weaved his way through tall grasses and over a slight hill. The spot was not very high, but gave him a fair view of the area. He spotted the other wolf where she lounged easily. His tongue fell out as he grinned. "Ho there!" the wolf called, his voice exuberant and hearty. With a quick trot down the little hill, the male swiftly made his way towards his new friend. As he drew near to the wolfess, his tail began to waggle pleasantly. Ears forward, he tilted his head, "What is a fair maiden such as yourself doing out here all alone? Surely you have many jovial companions to keep you occupied, yes?" He plopped his rump down and picked his back foot up to kick at in itch. "I would gladly volunteer for the position, if you like." He set his foot down. "You see, I have no companions of my own this day. I have been traveling alone for quiet some time, in fact, and it can be quiet lonely. Birds are not especially fond of conversing with wolves, though I can't imagine why. Oh! Forgive me! You weren't napping, were you?" His tail paused for a moment of concern before continue to wag softly.

The dark female stirred and cracked her eyes open again. Ah. It seemed fate had decided that she would get to play today, after all. Such a cheerful plaything, too! And a flatterer, at that. This could prove quite entertaining. Should she crush his happy spirit? Perhaps lead him into trouble? Or perhaps he would be one of the rare few she released unscathed...more or less.
Then again, given his cheerfulness, she might not be able to resist playing with him. Such wolves could grow so very tedious and trying. Time would tell. First, though, regardless of her ultimate decision, she had to play nice with the silly male.
"You flatter me, sir wolf," she said, a certain degree of teasing laughter coloring her voice. "To think I would have so many companions. Let alone any so jovial as you." She stretched he lean body languorously, not unlike a cat, then gave him her attention once more.
"Do not trouble yourself. I was already waking up. Truth be told, I have been traveling alone for a time, myself. I would welcome the company."

"Oooh, good!" he squealed, as much as a fellow could squeal without sounding overly effeminate. Like a bolt, the wolf leapt straight from his seat to what little space remained on the she-wolf's rock. He squirmed around, a bit noodley like a ferret might, and made himself cozy against the female as though they were already the best of chums. Assuming she hadn't fallen off the rock, of course.
"Do you really think so?" he mused. The wolf paused and squirmed a bit more, kicking at the air to flip over onto his back. "That I flattered you, that is. I didn't mean to, honest." He looked at the she-wolf from under his nose, ears squished by the rock underneath so that they stuck-out from the sides of his head.
"Better than being rude, I suppose. Anyone can be one of those dark, brooding types. You know the ones I mean." He drew his eye-brows into a knot and made a profusely stern frown, "Grrr, look at me! I am so dark and brooding, grrr! And I don't talk to anyone unless I have something dark and brooding to say, grarwlrrrrr!" The wolf directed his upside-down, smoosh-eared frown-of-all-frowns to his new buddy and gave her a moment to bask in his brooding quasai-glower. Then his tail waggled most seriously, as all tail waggles ought to be for the most broodingly brooding of broody wolves.
Then he exploded with a grin and flipped back over, "Oh! I almost forgot to ask, what is the name of my dearest companion?!" He shuffled his paws and scooted himself up into a sit. "You may call me Suncatcher!" he beamed and stuck out his chest, clearly proud of the title.
OOC: lol, what a goof!

More to the point, she would welcome the entertainment. What was this silly male doing? He was certainly a touchy-feely one. Not very aware of personal boundaries, either. He very nearly knocked her off of her stone. Luckily, it was a large stone, or at least large enough; he could only knock her sideways a bit. Her ears flattened and she glared at him in exasperation, but after a moment, she simply shook her head.
"Coyote," she replied, then corrected him. "Brooding wolves never wag their tails. Do you believe that flattery is such a terrible thing? Or is it simply that you do not want others to think you a flirt?"
Strange creature. What was she to do with him?
OOC: XD Sun is too fun. This is going to be a test of my skills to keep Coyote in character.
