This thread will chronicle my experience (and probably Cheeva Catkin's as well) with a user from another RP. There is a LOT to be learned from this lady because she made a lot of mistakes. The drama that she caused spanned two websites, two RPs, many, many months and eventually descending into vicious attacks and stalking.

SOUNDS FUN RIGHT? emotion_awesome

To start with...I met Yo when she joined WINGS--an RP guild that, at the time, I was vice captain of (I'm currently the captain as the old captain is on indefinite hiatus). She seemed nice enough and very eager to get involved.

The first warning signs were her character. The character was a classic Mary Sue complete with an obnoxious physical description that talked about her "waist length curls" "delicate hands" and "bright blue eyes" among other things. The character was pretty, slightly naive and was clearly a representation of Yo herself.

The only bad thing about her at first was the insanely long posts with her RPing with herself--usually bizarre things like randomly helping a woman give birth to twins and such. But then we got a random rape scene. In broad. Daylight. In a crowded. Market.

The idea itself was so bizarre.

Protip: Do not create random, horrifically over dramatic scenes so the male character you think is hot, can come save your character. In fact, try to avoid horrific melodrama at all times. Especially if it's random and completely uncalled for.

But even after this, she wasn't horrible to deal with. There were just a lot of little annoyances. The main issue was that she was hugely emotionally invested in this character because the character was a representation of herself. So she would get annoyed and whiny if people didn't like her (and very few of the other characters liked her because she was irritating as hell).

Protip: Don't be so emotionally invested in your characters that you can't handle it when other people disagree with them or dislike them. Your character cannot be awesome and loved by everyone. It's not going to happen. This is why self-inserts and Mary Sues can spawn so much drama. Distance yourself from the RP for the sake of your own feeling sand for the sake of the RP.

Another problem that plagued this character (and every other one she created) was that she would come up with these bizarre scenarios to ingratiate other characters to hers. Her character was always trying to do favors for others, or solve their problems just so the others would like her. The problem was that most scenarios were just......sort of dumb. Like finding a sheet of high quality, perfectly pristine and useable paper in the middle of the desert, so she could give it to a man that made paper flowers for a living.

Because we all know that there are just loads of paper sitting around in deserts waiting to be found by people.

Protip: Don't come up with things that are impossible, then get mad when other RPers are like "No...that wouldn't happen. It doesn't make sense."

Another issue with Yo was that she was really, really, really, really.....REALLY pushy about pairings. Like, to the point it got creepy and she would talk to me about the "romantic" dreams she was having of Seth and her character. She would get mad if a pairing she had chosen, didn't work out, and whine and complain and talk about how horrible the male character was, and generally carry on in an annoying fashion.

Protip: Pairings happen. They're fun to RP. Don't get so set on one that you get pissed off if it doesn't work out, or get jealous if the character you're set on talks to other people. Especially don't get stalkery and creepy toward the RPer. Respect people's rights to RP their characters how they wish--even if it means they don't fall in love with your character.

(don't worry--there's more to come) emotion_awesome

AND NOW...to share Yo stories. emotion_awesome

One thing about Yo's posts that were really, really annoying was that she was constantly trying to draw attention to her character's beautiful features. She mentioned the fact that her character had blue eyes in nearly every post. She was constantly fluttering them at people, or beaming them at people, or raising them to look at people. She never just looked at something. She looked with her bright blue eyes. If she cried, her "blue eyes" filled with tears. It was really irritating because it was like she thought blue eyes were uncommon or special somehow, and felt the need to draw attention to them.

Her first character caused a huge drama in the RP and she eventually removed her. And created a second character.

WINGS has a culture in it that is based on real life gypsy culture. It's a culture I created, drawing elements from the Roma, and various other cultures. She created this herbalist that.......was the most horribly cliched gypsy ever. ;____; It made me sad to see my culture fall so low.

Drina (like the first character) had waist length curls and blue eyes. She still mentioned the blue eyes in every post. The main block she hit with Drina is that there was nothing to do with her. WINGS has a very specific plot that revolves around very specific things in the RP and Drina didn't fit...anywhere. Which meant half the time Yo was badgering people to RP with her because all the other characters were busy. Like the first character, Drina instantly latched onto the first male that she met, poured water on his head, then wondered why he hated her guts. emotion_awesome (Clearly it was just because he was horrible and didn't understand her.)

Drina also failed miserably because Yo could never find anyone that was available because all the other characters were too busy to go by potions from a random gypsy lady in the market.

Then Yo made an attempt at creating a male character.

Protip: No matter what. Never. Ever. Ever. EVER. ......EVER describe your characters genitals in the profile. It will completely weird out your fellow RPers for the rest of their lives.

A lot of the weirdest Yo moments that stand out to me, were from after she left WINGS and joined this other RP run by a WINGS member.

She created this character with..........LoL............waist length curls and blue eyes. emotion_awesome And latched onto Sethrian as her target male. She would talk to me on another site about how much she really loved Seth and really wanted to RP romance with me (which let me just say---coming from a 31 year old married lady, was just a wee-tad awkward for me). She also told me that she had "romantic" dreams of Sethrian and her character. The fact that she made it a point to say they weren't at all sleazy just honestly made me think they were DEFINITELY sleazy.

It was really creepy. ;^;

Guys, I don't care how much you like another character. Never tell their RPer you have romantic dreams about them. It is WEIRD.

One of the other incidents from this RP was involved with another gypsy character who was part of a large, traveling caravan/market. Originally she had said that Mala had a great family. But as it turned out, Mala sort of alienated some of the other characters and almost no one in the caravan liked her. (Like all of Yo's characters, Mala was honestly really, really, REALLY annoying. She was simpering and whiny and her "blue eyes" constantly were filling with tears. So she created this huge domestic abuse scenario where Mala's father was beating her and her mother. It basically resulted in the entire caravan and nearly every character in it having to grind everything to a halt, to deal with the domestic abuse thing. It was random, unasked for and uncalled for.

I mean, drama is great! But not when it makes half the RP stop and focus on your character, because you aren't getting the attention and love you deserve. At that point, it becomes an annoyance. It took a couple of days of RPing to clear up that whole thing. Intense drama can be really fun to RP, but it's really rude to literally FORCE some kind of massive emo-drama fest on the whole RP without even warning people it's coming. It's one thing when it's one small corner, and another when it forces a ton of characters to focus on your character for several days. >.<

That doesn't even get into when we found out she was "borrowing" some of my characters and ideas.

Um...like, in the second RP we were in, Angela was a sky pirate (as she usually is). And she was first mate of a small pirate ship that focused on smuggling goods, rather than raiding other ships. And she was her typical self. A little snarky and sarcastic, hard to get to know, but with a compassionate side as well. She was born into a pirating family, but eventually struck out on her own.

Yo joined this third RP and created a sky pirate who was captain of a small pirate ship that focused on smuggling goods instead of raiding other ships. Shew as snarky, sarcastic, hard to get to know, but had a compassionate side...She was born into a pirating family but eventually struck out on her own.....

Creepy part? The name was Isla. Which is an anagram of my first name (Which Yo does know my first name is Lisa and this was also when some of the other creepy, stalkery stuff was going on). That may have been a creepy a** coincidence but I was so completely weirded out by that. LoL

I'll add to this one, since I was the one who bore the brunt of the, truly vicious, verbal abuse that lasted an hour ^_^; But, before that, let's get into this little bit, here:

StrawberryZ0mbie
Her first character caused a huge drama in the RP and she eventually removed her. And created a second character.

Aislinn was a Highlander. Highlanders are a creation of mine for WINGs based off a race from one of my novels (dumbed down for the setting). A northern off-shoot of Strawberry's pagans/gypsies in WINGs, they have their groundings in a complex mixture of Celtic, Germanic and Welsh culture, social politics and folklore (sorry, I'm a writer, I tend to research a lot XD).

Yo, however, decided to treat the culture as a made-for-Hollywood stereotype of the Scottish people, not seeing the nuances - especially in the accents. She asked for permission for Aislinn to be a Highlander and I said yes.

Hindsight, is 20/20, am I right?

Yo decided that she wanted to simply pick and choose what aspects of the culture she wanted. She wanted all the exoticness and drama of being a foreign race/culture, without the actual personality and social conflict that would come from it.

Protip: If you're going to use a race created by another RPer, use it respectfully. Don't just pick the most awesome and exciting parts of the culture and ignore the parts you don't like or you feel will make your character, omg, "flawed". By choosing to RP a culture, you take the good with the bad.

Aislinn was a nightmare. A big ball of Mary Sue horrific nightmare. Highlanders were supposed to be rugged, relatively tough characters, and while naive about foreign cultures...they weren't idiots. Guess what Aislinn was? 8D If you guessed, delicate, weak (of body and mind...and character) and a completely daft fool, you guessed right! She was a beautiful, weak, helpless, woman, who only wanted to heal the sick and be loved!111 Nothing like my Highlander characters and nothing like I imagined any Highlander characters ever being.

Needless to say, reading her posts made that vein above my eye, twitch.

Yo was also desperate for Aislinn to be the centre of attention at all times - despite the fact that she bounced her to a new place in each post. Now, in a guild like WINGs, where one day lasts over two months, you can imagine how well that worked out.

Protip: Work with the timeline of an RP. If and RP is slow moving, don't have your character bounce around like a schizophrenic squirrel.

As Strawberry pointed out, the reason she was so attached to Aislinn was that she was far too emotionally invested in the character. If Aislinn wasn't winning anyone over, or if she wasn't getting attention ,she would suddenly have these stunningly over-dramatic scenes.

Strawberry has already dealt with the broad daylight rape, but I'm going to deal with two others. See, despite it being rare for Highlanders (outside of two, for plot reasons) to have the WINGed abilities, Aislinn had them. One of them was, I believe, a form of astral projection. At one point, when no one was paying attention to her, Yo had Aislinn go to bed (in the...middle of the day ~.~ ) and dream about a girl who had been brutally raped (sensing a theme here, people? ) and who was dying. She RPed a long, painfully scene, with herself, where Aislinn comforted the dying girl through her death.

Not only was it painfully written, it was completely inappropriate and unnecessary. Rather than making her character seem awesome, it made her fellow RPers feel awkward and isolated.

Similarly, she decided she wanted Aislinn to be a nurse, and had her go to join the local hospital. Well! Because at that point no one was fawning over Aislinn, suddenly there was someone having a difficult delivery, and only Aislinn could go help the baby!!11 Again, all self-RPed and all very, very awkward and painfully written.

Again, it was a scene contrived solely to make her character - and by extension, Yo - seem brilliant and awesome.

It did not.

Finally, Aislinn/Yo had rather an intriguing issue. She had a peculiar vision impairment. One that baffled and intrigued us all. Aislinn was somehow completely blind around any men who were married/paired. To her, they were invisible. Single male characters, she had on infra-red radar, ready for squeamish glomping. But coupled males, might as well not have existed.

Our suspicions as to her horrible impairment was confirmed when my character, Laklas, a doctor at the hospital, was standing in front of a door, after just knocking. At the time, he was paired with Angela (I miss their crazy crying ). Aislinn, who was also going to see the same character as Lakals, walked up to the door, ignored Laklas, knocked, then stood there wondering why the hall was so empty.

Laklas and I were baffled. He tried to interact with her, but no die.

It wasn't until people pointed out that she was deliberately missing Laklas, did she finally acknowledge him.

This, really, was the last straw for myself and the crew. After a lot of painful discussions, Yo removed Aislinn as part of an epic temper tantrum (now, at this point, I was only 21 - she was literally ten years my senior and acting at least ten years my junior).

And this...was when the abuse began...

The thing about when she attacked you....I know you guys had a lot of problems because you kept pointing out things she was doing wrong with Aislinn (and then she had the nerve to try to tell you that you were wrong about your own culture). But her attack was just so over the top. @___@

I always wondered if she really attacked you because she thought you were a big mean auto-hating Mcgrouchy pants, or if it was because she was trying so hard to be my best friend forever and you kind of.........already have that position.

I had to admit...I giggled like a loon every time Laklas called her "Apple" XD

Yeah, I always felt that it wasn't so much that I was asking her to, you know, respect my work, but more that she was scarily obsessed with you. I remember, one night, we were discussing how we'd chat a lot on Skype voice chat (which we need to do again, by the way >=O ) and IMMEDIATELY she wanted your phone number to call you because you guys were the same age and would totally be best friends because of it.

That was literally what she said. I remember being really weirded out by it. I remember thinking, one day, she was going to turn up on your doorstep.

She was constantly sort of trying to angle herself in, trying to get one up on me, when it came to you. I remember her telling me you said something about me (I don't even remember what it was now) and I flat out told her we'd known each other for over four years at that point, and you'd never say something like that behind my back.

You'd say it to my face XD And then we'd work it out.

And I know she was trying to tell you things I said, that I never did.

So I think it was really her trying to be your best friend and put me off side. Because she'd try going through the other RPers and the Captain, too about things I'd "said", to try and alienate me. I still have all the conversations where she was trying to entrap me.

She was very, very manipulative.

And I so forgot he called her Apple XD That was so hilarious XD

But yeah, it was because we're closeish in age and other stuff. (She's still older than me though...weird lady. I think that weirded me out a lot, knowing that she was being like this and she was older than I was...it was just like "ew...stop. ;__;"

Yeah, I think she asked me to call her, or asked for my number at least three separate times. ;___;

And I'd totally forgotten about that time she claimed I'd said something. Ugh...I honestly don't even remember what it was she claimed I said now. @___@

I remember a lot more of the DS stuff--like when she had Mala completely ignore Rue. And then when everyone decided Mala was an uppity bint for ignoring the disabled character, Yo threw a major hissy fit because we wouldn't let her edit, claiming she totally didn't know Rue was standing there except that......it was really obvious she was standing there. @______@

I think that was the incident that sparked the massive domestic violence scene because after that Sethrian, Rue, and whoever else was standing there all disliked her.

I forgot to reply to this ~.~

Yes, her age was what got me, too. How can you be that unsta...oh, wait, Wild XD

I really do swear I thought I'd hear you say she showed up one day. Creepy lady.

And I think it was something like you didn't like me as much as you said, or that you had a problem with things I did, or that you weren't really that good a friend with me or that you claimed she was the better friend...or something along those lines. Something, basically that was a lie and we would have discussed if it was true. I remember telling her it was BS and that we'd been friends for years.

I know she stopped after that, lol.

The DS stuff was so annoying -.- Because for all her innocent "I just missed her!" we all knew it was crap. And, yeah, wasn't it basically the next post where she went "OMG, ABUSE!"?

That hour of abuse on iScribble was truly, truly horrible. It really was. Arch never did anything that upset me quite as much as Yo and I really don't think I could stomach dealing with her again. I can't even really feel sorry for her, which I know is terrible to say, but she didn't have a care that she was verbally abusing someone who was terribly, permanently ill =/ And it wasn't just the terrible things that she was saying, but the knowledge that she was a woman ten years older than me, treating me like that.

^_^; She is, I'm sorry to say, a horrible person.
