Personalities: Theron is all business, all the time. When around more quiet, easygoing people, he can hold a decent, civil conversation, and is usually willing to lend a hand with some task or another, but don't expect him to sit and listen to your life story, or play politics -- he just doesn't have the time, patience, or goodwill for that.
That's about as good as it gets -- because he's also astonishingly easy to provoke. Any form of teasing (especially about his height) can get under his skin in an instant, and he gets very cranky when pushed. These bursts of temper are rarely serious, but if pushed, he won't hesitate to challenge someone to a sparring match to resolve the argument. The one saving grace about his temper is that, although he will remember that you're the a*****e who called him short, he's good about keeping it from interfering with his judgment and actions. He might hate you and never want to speak to you again, but that doesn't mean he'd let you take a hit from an enemy in a fight.
This is because he is completely dedicated to the idea of eradicating the threat of Halloween, of a world without FEAR. His sense of morality, of rightness, is strong enough to fuel many of his decisions. In his pursuit of that goal, he's willing to resort to whatever means necessary, and he won't hesitate to take any advantage possible, or use tactics others might find underhanded (if not outright unethical), in order to secure a victory with as few allied casualties as possible. To his way of thinking, the monsters they fight are opposed to humanity by their very natures. Although they might look, or even act, human, they will always be his enemies; he's made this division in order to be able to fight without any sympathy or remorse. If this makes him a monster, too, he honestly doesn't care, as long as the job gets done.
He doesn't fear hard decisions in general, and in fact appears to fear very little. As a child, he used to be afraid of pain, the dark, and monsters; now that he's experienced all three firsthand, he's still afraid, but resolved to hide that and fight. His ability to divide his personal feelings from his actions even extends to fear; he can lock it away and put on a calm face in many situations, although frightening enough situations will still crack his calm exterior.
He's extremely dedicated to the cause, and spends much of his spare time training, or reading up on monster lore, or helping out -- anything. He likes being self-reliant, and tends to try to do as much on his own as possible, hence why he fit best with the Mist Hunters. This independence carries itself to his personal life, though, and he tends to isolate himself, intentionally or not. It also makes him stubbornly resistant to the idea of retreating, and he will always hesitate to back down from a fight, even when logically, he knows he should turn tail and live to fight another day. Retreat means failure, and he
hates failure, so he tends to be even crankier than usual for a couple days after a battle (or even a spar or training exercise) goes pear-shaped for him.
Inazuma, on the other hand, is generally easygoing and cheerful, constantly prodding her Hunter to stop being so antisocial and actually talk to people on his own initiative. At least
once. Just to prove he can. Her tendency to treat life as one big, hilarious game tends to annoy the hell out of Theron, and Ina seems quite gleeful about provoking her Hunter into seething anger. If Theron suddenly looks like he wants to murder someone, it's probably wise not to make yourself a convenient target.
But in a fight, Ina becomes energetic, restless, even a little frenzied; she's surprisingly vicious and bloodthirsty, and often gleefully urges her Hunter on. He's still a little bothered by how cavalier she is about violence, but he can ignore that, and they cooperate well.
Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter? Theron spent his whole life in fear of the shadows, flinching at the sound of distant voices that only he could hear. His parents didn't know what was going on -- didn't know what to do with their strange, paranoid son, with a boy who stared at shadows with his eyes wide and lips pressed tightly together in some mix of fear and defiance, shoulders stiff and whole body trembling like he was ready to run. He never fit in with the other children; he was too uneasy in large groups, forever watching their faces, waiting for the moment when they would suddenly
change --
And the therapists all said it would get better in time, that he'd outgrow it and learn to handle people, but he never did. He couldn't find a way to explain that it wasn't the shadows he was afraid of, but the things casting the shadows -- that he wasn't afraid of illusions, but of monsters that were very, very real. He took gymnastics and martial arts, and learned to fight for real in the rougher parts of New York City, but none of that was enough. None of it could really fight the things he knew were out there.
That was the one part of his life he could never control, the one enemy he couldn't figure out a way to fight, and his hyper-vigilance and constant wariness were slowly ruining his health. He couldn't sleep, couldn't socialize, couldn't just relax.
When the recruiter approached him, to tell him that it wasn't just his imagination, that the threat was real, and that now that he knew what was out there, he
could learn how to fight it -- well. He couldn't say yes fast enough.
Weapon Ability Ina becomes charged with electricity for a short time, allowing Theron to make a series of rapid swipes.
(Swift Strikes mechanism)
Physical Description: Eye Colour: Very bright, pale blue.
Hair Colour/Style: Black, usually kept somewhere between short and medium-length, with bangs just short enough that they don't get in his eyes. Due to how active he is, his hair is rarely perfectly neat.
Skin Colour: Fair-skinned. Unfortunately, he tends to burn, rather than tan.
Clothing Style/Colours: Something inspired by military uniforms would be awesome; he tends to favor black, white, and blue, color-wise.
Extra: Inazuma desummons to a pair of
lightning bolt bangles. Also, Theron is short -- he tops out at 5'3", 5'4" if you're feeling generous -- but he has proportionally long legs.
