Scarentine's Day was approaching too quickly for Thackery's tastes. He'd been spending so much time around Ash that he hadn't found much free time to sneak off and collect presents for his boilfriend and their minipets. Though the reaper might not mind a lack of gifting, he knew that there were some finicky little kitsunes who would hate him for weeks. It would just break his heart.
So, with a moment to get away, he had snuck out with a bag over his shoulder and plenty of silver seeds in tow. Gifts for the pets were first on his list; his priorities were not quite that crazy, but Ash's would require a bit more thought.
Or so he'd assumed.
It appeared that the store was stocked with extra little toys and trinkets specifically for Scarentine's. Tiny outfit, anatomically correct heart-shaped chewtoys, red and pink fear candies. How was he supposed to choose?
The result was a frighteningly large pile of items on the counter, the Cerberus poking through them in desperation. All of these would use up all of his money, and then he wouldn't have any for the non-minipet friends in his life, and...
He whined, frowning at the jumbled mess, willing it to sort itself out.

Female l 5 feet l demon - kitsune
Back to Halloween- but a different part of it. The first thing Reine did was examine the golem she'd gotten- female, check, and she even had boobs, granted they didn't feel as special as she thought they might, but it was better than nothing. Even if it seemed she'd lost a few inches of height, and gained..
Twitch.
Ears. She reached up to touch them, this felt so weird, like she was cosplaying, except she couldn't pull them off. And... she even had a tail. Or tails. Tails? One two three four five six... oh god.
She was a vulpix. A shiny one, even, considering her colours. After the shock from that particular revelation had faded, Reine shook her head, reminding herself that she was on a mission. She walked up the path, mentally trying to recall the map Clarice had drawn for her. It surprised her how modern this section of Halloween looked, really.. even as she walked into the mall, there were shops, granted, the food and the fashion didn't appeal to her, but shopping in Halloween? Apparently monsters had lives too.. who knew.
Turning a corner, Reine spotted the place she had been looking for- Minipet Supplies. Alright, just go in, grab a few bags of fear candy, and go home.
Home. When had she started thinking of the island as home? Chuckling, she stepped into the store and started looking around the shelves.

Ah, was that the sound of the door opening? Maybe the other customer could help him pick through some of this! Thackery's ears twitched in the direction of the noise, and his gaze soon followed...just in time to catch the golden tips of kitsune tails.
Oh Jack it was happening again.
A knot grew in his throat. He dropped the bedazzled minipet brush he'd been holding and strode purposely towards the tails.
"Tomoko?" he called, coming to an immediate halt as soon as he got a full glimpse of her. Not Tomoko. This must have been how she'd felt when she confused him for his triplet.
"O...oh. Oh I'm sorry, oh." His cheeks were hot and he knew he was blushing but Jackdamnit he didn't want to be, this was so shameful. "I didn't mean to bother you, I...ohhh. How long have you been here? I haven't seen you before, oh, wow, um."
He closed his eyes. He couldn't look at her anymore right now. He still wasn't quite used to keeping his composure around the kitsunes yet.
"Well, I'm Thackery, anyway, so..." Blindly, he reached out for a handshake, careful to not extend his arm too far. He didn't want to accidentally molest a stranger.

The store was less halloweeny than she'd expected, and more.. valentines, what, was 'halloween' a seasonal thing.. did it mean that if she came here around christmas, Santa would be there?
More like 'holidayland' than 'halloweentown', huh.. Or maybe they just celebrated valentines here as well, Reine made a mental note to do more research..
Tomoko?
She turned when she heard a voice call out, but before she saw him she knew who it was- she recognised the voice, and a chill ran down her spine. No.. no, she'd promised Ally, but she'd also promised him, but he was one of them, and it looked like he didn't know who she was, so maybe she could get away with it, or maybe she could ignore him or run out of the shop or something, but the way he was looking at her, the memory of him swearing to protect her..
Instead she went with her first instinct, throwing her arms around him. Reine had missed him more than she'd expected, even after trying to shove him out of her mind, pretending they'd never met. Even through the familiar warmth she was aware that she shouldn't be doing this, and not just because of Ally screaming at her in her head- maybe she should have just walked away.
"I'm Reine," she whispered. "Please don't tell anyone else."
Pulling away, she looked up at him. He wouldn't.. betray her now, would he, call security on her or something? This was wrong, she was a hunter, she shouldn't be friends with one of these monsters, but.. it seemed a little too late at this point to turn around.

There were arms around him, and Thackery had absolutely no idea what was going on. This was easily the most confusing kitsune encounter he'd had so far - and he thought his meeting with Tomoko would have held that spot forever. Maybe his reputation of being such an excellent kitsune protector had finally gotten ahead of him!
But then she spoke.
And it was so much better than another kistune. Reine!
It had been a bit difficult, coming to terms with the promise he'd made. But she was so different from the others, and she'd offered him almost an entire boney dragon tail, and, and...! He clung to her until she pulled back, and could hardly stand still, hands shaking with adrenaline. With his tail wagging so enthusiastically, he forgot he wasn't in his natural form - and Reine the Kitsune got a lick on the cheek in greeting.
"Ah! Sorry, oh, sorry!" Realizing he was probably drawing too much attention towards them by nearly shouting at her, he lowered his voice a bit. "I won't tell anyone, no way. I promised that I wouldn't let you get hurt, and they would..." He didn't want to think about what they would do, judging from the conversations he'd read on the SEEDS forums.
"What are you doing here? Do you have minipets too? Who's your favorite? And how are you..." he gestured quizzically towards her, just briefly. "Oh, Jack, forget all that, I'm glad you're okay! I missed you!"

She wasn't sure what she had been expecting from his reaction, but a lick on the cheek was most definitely not it- though it helped her relax a little, and Reine found herself smiling at the way he was reacting, his tail wagging. Maybe.. maybe she could try that as well, after all she had six tails and she might as well use them. They swished back and forth somewhat awkwardly- oh well. It'd come with practice.
Practice. Wait, no, she wasn't supposed to be learning how to wag her tails, she was here on a mission. Why.. why were there so many dilemmas, she shouldn't be consorting with the enemy, but Thackery was a friend, and there he was, promising that he wouldn't let her get hurt.. 'and they would'..
She breathed a sigh of relief, almost- she wasn't a gone case yet, if that meant that other than Thackery the other monsters were real monsters, things that hurt people, things she could hate- and be okay with hurting. Just not him.
"I'm here to get supplies," Reine admitted. "We're running low on fear candy, and um... they're actually all kind of... scary, I saw a rabbit once with loads of teeth, and--"
She shuffled her feet awkwardly, looking down.
"I missed you too." She didn't dare to ask about what had happened after the hunters left, considering Caelius wasn't back yet it must have been something serious.. but Thackery looked completely unhurt, and that, at least, was a good thing.

As Reine described the reason for her trip and her (obviously delusional) idea of minipets, Thackery looked more and more confused. How in Halloween could they be low on fear candy? That was one of the most basic things you had to have around! When he shopped for his minipets, it was because they were running out of new toys or had chewed through another one of their brushes. Maybe it was the opposite for hunters: lots of brushes, not enough candy. That made sense.
"They're not scary! Okay, well. Maybe some of them. But I have some that look like you do now! And other dogs like me, and...oh, how much time do you have here? Lots of it?" He sure hoped so. "I can show you all of my minipets that aren't scary, and then we can go to the Scarentine's Party! There will be other minipets there, and if it's like last year, maybe you can win one to keep. A nice one. That won't make mean teeth at you."
He bared his teeth to demonstrate "mean teeth" but the scariness didn't quite carry.
"Oh, and I can share my candies and stuff, then if you don't have enough, we can come back here afterward?" He clasped his hands together with his best begging face, hoping that she would say yes. He didn't want her to get in trouble, but if they could manage...this would be so great!

T..time, um. Time, well, Clarice hadn't really given her a time limit, all she had to do was bring back a few bags of FEAR candy, right? And.. she really shouldn't be doing this, but what if, what if it was an opportunity for surveillance, to see what the halloweeners were like, she could gather information, she would even write reports on it. Plus she would probably be less suspicious if she was with Thackery, they both had ears and tails maybe she could pretend to be a very distant cousin?
No, a said mental voice that sounded vaguely like Caelius'. Stop there. Stop right there. Reine winced, imagining the brilliant blue arc of the scythe, that was right- she was a hunter, on a mission she needed to complete.
"I don't think I can," she replied, trying to keep her voice cold, but there was no hiding the disappointment, that little twinge of regret.
"Maybe.. some.. other time." She couldn't even look at him, now, instead focusing on the bag she was holding.
"I'm sorry.."

This was the best Scarentine's ever. Reine was going to be able to come to the party. She could meet Ash. And she wanted to talk about kitsunes. She wanted to talk about kitsunes.
He tried to contain his excitement, but his tail continued to give him away.
"Of course! I think I still have my name book from when I named Kari, and...oh! You can borrow some of my clothes, too, so you look like you're dressed for the holiday. And I can tell you everything about kitsunes. Everything." The last word held an almost foreboding tone, but his knowledge was mostly harmless. Just excessively expansive.
He took her hand and offered a smile.
"It'll be fun. And if anyone bothers you, I'll beat 'em up."
And as the thrilled thoughts flooded his head, he led her back towards his dorm. Everyone would be so glad to meet her, he just knew it!
