xxxxxAs the sun set beyond the horizon, the weight of the direct summer sunlight was relieved. In its place was the phenomenon of dusk; the atmosphere was stifling with residual warmth, the ground was still burning, and would do so until the n** of the Serengeti breeze set in. In the midst of the undisturbed nature, a single soul crept along, each footstep rustling in unison with the waking of the nocturnal creatures. Though her head hung, she continued in the straight path of an individual who knew the area. Her eyes flickered open, but she was nearly asleep as she walked. Shani thanked whatever God her mother believed in for the relief. It had been blazing hot and she had been boiling inside. Her coat attracted heat and the not-as-hot night air was all she needed to cool down once more.
xxxxxThe sunset rescued her, providing Shani a drop in temperature and a burst of energy. All was silent as she approached the oasis smack in the middle of the Serengeti, save her own intrusion of the brush and the scattered pattering of smaller creatures. That was, until there was the familiar bubble of water and, with it, the scent of fresh and green foliage. She allowed a relieved smile to quirk the edge of her maw. The water seemed to cool the air around it. Shani was quick to crouch down among the prickly greenery and their lengthening shadows to take a bellyful of gulps. She was wide awake now. The day had been long and tiring, with a lot to keep her busy. And now it was dusk - her favorite time of day.

xxxxxTabansi was a wanderer. Never settling down was his passion. Flirting with pridal guards and getting run out of the area by their large, angry mates was his specialty. And he enjoyed it all. The lithe Cheetah boy was now loping about the desert after leaving the Ukuucha'Wafalme lands a day behind - after he'd figured out what that pride was about, he realized that no tail was available for the pouncing and scrammed. Since then he'd come across very few others, and none who'd held his interest for more than a few short seconds. It was exhausting, really, this life of his; traversing the lands searching for artificial friends to entertain him until he got bored and left again. At least, Tabansi viewed it as a hard, burden of a life. Others might not think so well of it. xxxxxPicking his way about the slow-cooling sands of the desert, Tabansi already found himself tiring of the scenery. Or lack thereof. Grain after grain of sand took up his view, leaving nothing pretty for the eyes to feast upon. Sighing, Tabansi thrashed his tail in annoyance before quickly bouncing off his hide legs into the super fast run Cheetahs are famous for. In no time at all he came upon a beautiful oasis, palm fronds jutting up into the air so high they seemed to puncture the clouds. Continuing his run, Tabansi's smile burst into a full-on grin as he lowered his head, set on crashing through the outer, leafy shell of the oasis and into the stagnant water beyond. Only gaining speed with excitement, he barelled through the green and straight into a tree trunk, a loud thud resounding as his skull connected with the bark and Tabansi's body dropped.

xxxxxShani let her muzzle stay submerged in the cooling flow for a moment before raising it out of the water and and shaking it off. Shani yawned as her muzzle rose farther into the air - she was nothing but awake, yet her body wished for her to rest. Her eyes fluttered shut for a moment, and then opened as she stretched out one of her long, muscular hind legs. If anything, she was fit and always ready to move. The oasis was a place of solitude at this time of day. As were, as she had slowly discovered, most other lands out in the open that she was familiar with. Between bouts of sudden frustration, this was a good enough life. No accountability, no responsibility. Until, of course, the time came where she needed to look out for herself. With soft steps, she ambled away from the shore. Thoughts filled her mind rapidly, but she did her best to shove them back into the abyss that was her mind.
Sudden noises filled the air around her, causing her rounded ears to tip forward. Shani's senses went on alert - around here, strangers normally meant trouble. As she braced for impact, she imagined what brute would leap from the greenery and attack her. But to her surprise, all that happened was a loud thud. 'What...?' Cocking her head, she took a step forward. All the sounds had stopped. Who was dumb enough to scare her before attacking? She felt anger building up inside her, but held it in. Instead of being fearful, she stood tall and strode forward. A clump of lanky brown fur was at the base of a tree, and she had to stare for a long moment to figure out what had happened. The second she did, she couldn't help but laugh. "Is this how you try to get all the ladies? By running into trees?" Shani flicked her long tail and strode toward him. She was more powerful at that instant. She had no reason to be fearful. "Are you alright?" She generally was nice. It took a lot to actually make her break from her normal character.

xxxxxAll that Tabansi could feel, see, and hear was his head. It was pounding, pain reverberating throughout his skull like ripples from a splash in the ocean. The inside of his eyelids was a bright, glaring red - just the shade of the fresh-flowing blood the Cheetah was all too familiar with from hunting. Although he hadn't been knocked out, Tabansi wished he had been, only to avoid the pain. 'Why the hell did I do that?' He blinked his eyes open lazily, attempting to regain his bearings. Before he could complete that, however, he heart a crunching of greens over the incessant pounding of his head. A voice soon reached his ears, and it was a moment before he actually registered the tone of the voice and even longer to recognize what it was saying. No sooner than the other had shown up, Tabansi was grinning ear to ear - an eager female was always welcome with him. xxxxxAlthough it did confuse him a bit that she was initiating the flirtation, Tabansi certainly didn't abhor it. In fact, he rather enjoyed the plot twist. Turning his head, the Cheetah with the golden eyes appraised the female standing beside him, attempting to work his eyes over her body completely. He failed, however; he knew he was in a strange position to be talking to a female, but also realized that his head needed another minute before he could rise. Therefore, he decided to reply without standing up. "I'll tell you later - I need to see if it works, first. Oh, baby, I'm fine! Don't worry about me!" With a deep, quiet breath he braced himself for the impending pain as he swiftly stood up, letting the pain show only in his face. Once up, Tabansi was able to fully look over the female, and boy, was he pleased. A gorgeous, flirtatious female out in the desert all alone? She didn't stand a chance.

xxxxxShani tilted her head as the cheetah regained his bearings. She felt somewhat bad for him. He had to be mental if he was just randomly running into trees. A smile played on her maw as he started to grin, though her own was more hesitant. He seemed a bit too eager for her tastes. The femme flicked her tail and held her ground, not really knowing what else to do with herself while he was lying on the ground. She had expected him to get up immediately. But of course, she was wrong. He seemed rather content just lying in the position that he fell in. Was it polite to help him get up, or would it make more sense simply to let him lie there? She was young and inexperienced with life. On top of that, it wasn't every day that some random cheetah crossed her path and ran head-first into a tree. It also wasn't every day that she had to deal with someone who could possibly be delirious. By the way he attempted to eye her up, he sure seemed to be.
xxxxxHer ears rolled forward at the sound of his voice. Definitely not the kind of personality she had been expecting. This brute seemed to be confident. Apparently, confident enough that calling her 'baby' seemed like a good choice. Shani rolled her eyes and glanced at him as he rose to his paws. He was handsome. But obviously, she would never let him know that. "I am not your 'baby'. But if you must address me, my name is Shani." She flicked her tail once more, wondering why he was giving her a once-over. He was built well. Strong, lean. Why was she even thinking about that, though? Shaking her head, she stood tall so her eyes met his. "And you are?" Her family had taught her to always be polite. She would honor them in that way, if any. He had yet to do anything too impolite. In fact, he seemed like a gentleman. A gentleman that wanted a quick fling before running off, but a gentleman nonetheless.

xxxxxStill a bit wobbly on his feet, Tabansi let out a hearty chuckle. This girl, Shani, was quite the Cheetah. She was flirtatious, clever, and, he had to admit, stunning. Quite an unusual albeit fantastic discovery he'd stumbled upon - and boy was he happy for it. "Oh, maybe not yet. But you will be." Tabansi attempted a wink, but with a head that was still airy, he stumbled a bit when he tried to step toward her. Wincing, he looked up and Shani and smiled, attempting to look put-together. What was with him? Sure, he'd just possibly caused himself to be concussed, but normally he was so on-top of his game that nothing could stop him! Flicking his tail was the most he seemed to be able to accomplish physically, so he settled with thrashing it back and forth lightly, continuing to appraise the girl. xxxxxWhen asked his name, the male Cheetah found himself having to focus on remembering it. He huffed slightly, frustrated at the idea that he could have injured himself that much. "My name's Tabansi, but you may call me what you wish, darling." Likelihood was that Tabansi was going to forget her name; so instead of repeating it constantly in the beginning, he intended to address her using generic pet names, so that she wouldn't notice when he lost her name under those of various other girls. His memory regarding the others he'd been with was never great, and he had no doubt that this little incident would only worsen the fact. Still, Tabansi remained optimistic with this new girl - she seemed like she could be a lot more fun that the others ever were. Excitement was burbling up inside him, showing itself in the wide smile dancing upon his face.
