Several days had passed since she left her home by the river, but Helle still caught herself stopping every now and then to look behind her. She was chasing a vision, a dream she had of another blue lion like her. A brother, a sibling. Family by blood. She had dreamed of him most nights for as long as she could remember, so that was almost as good as knowing him - right?

Helle stopped and turned to look behind her once again. Charon had raised her from a cub, he was the closest thing she had to a father. Had he asked her to stay, she would have remained by the river, always waiting for night to fall and Charon to swim across to her side of the river. But when she had broken down and told him about her dreams, about the blue lion and the yellow one too, he had quietly urged her to seek them out. And how could she say no, find an excuse to stay when she had already dreamed about the place where she first met her brother?

Not much further now; in her dream she had flown high above the land as a bird might fly and seen the tree where she would meet her brother. Taking a deep breath, she started to run. The sooner she got to the tree and found out whether or not this blue lion of hers was nothing more than a dream the better.

As he walked, Phrixus' large paws created small dust clouds each they touched the ground. It was so soft, the only feeling that really calmed his mind any more. Stopping for a moment, he lifted his front paw, staring into the print it left on the ground. Just looking at it made his heart heavy; because he knew, that somewhere, hopefully, there was another like his.

Though he always tried his best to push old memories out of his mind, he found that it was near impossible to do. He remembered all too well what happened when he was young - how the only other creature he had cared about was ripped away from him. It was all so long ago that sometimes it felt like a dream. But he knew better. He knew that what he felt was real, based in everything that happened then.

Closing his eyes for a moment, he furrowed his brow, giving a look of being in pain. It was all he could do, for now, to keep from sinking into a dark pit within his own mind. Stopping and being swallowed up in his own pain wouldn't help him find her. It wouldn't even help him function. He needed to keep moving, to always keep his golden eyes on the horizon, watching for the familiar shades of blue that would finally bring him happiness again.

At least, he tried to always hope that he would find her.

Helle's steps slowed as she neared the tree until she stopped completely beneath its spreading branches. This was it, she was certain. And when she had been the bird, when she had been watching from above, her brother had come from... that way? Everything looked different from down on the ground, what if it wasn't even the right tree? Best not to think that way. The sun had been that direction, so she should turn her head and face-

She let out an involuntary gasp as she spotted a lion with a pelt as blue as hers, still a ways off. Could her dreams have been more than passing fancy, could they hold some piece of truth? They had certainly felt real enough.

It was fairly hard to tear his eyes away from the ground for more than a moment. Phrixus had gotten into the bad habit of getting so caught up in his thoughts and memories that he tended to ignore the world around him. Shaking his head, he knew that that was no way to find his sister. If anything, his eyes should be in constant movement, searching every horizon, every shadow, for the smaller blue figure from his memory.

There were times when he really worried that he wouldn't recognize her even if he stumbled upon her. What if something had changed? What if she was completely different from how he remembered her? His worries and fears always pressed in the back of his mind, but he knew that they wouldn't do him any good, not at this point.

Looking up, he could see the faint scraggles of a tree. His vision was strained from countless days without sleep, staring straight into the heart of the sun. Just underneath, he couldn't tell if it was a figure that he saw, but his heart jumped a little, hoping. Turning his head behind him, he justified his hopeful eagerness with the fact that it would be, at least, a good place to rest after the long journey he'd been on.

It was him. She took a step forward, but paused while still beneath the branches of the tree. They would meet under the tree, it was simply how it had to happen. But it was him, the lion from her dreams! He was too far away to tell for sure, but in her bones she knew that her dream had been right, that the blue lion that approached the tree was her brother. And he had a name, his name was –

“PHRIXUS!” she shouted. It was the shout of a child, a child falling down and down to the river. Falling? She didn’t remember falling, but she remembered his face, watching her fall, much younger then. And his name was Phrixus.

Coming up slowly, Phrixus could very much feel the wear on his body. He felt so aged and run-down, he really couldn't stand it. The last thing he needed was to be all tired out; it would mean more stopping, and less searching. But this time, apparently, would put an end to all of that.

Eyes worn, Phrixus' ears sluggishly flicked up at the sound of his name. He had kept his eyes tracing the ground as he walked closer to the tree, feeling a little too dead to do much else. But the voice behind his name is what made his eyes widen in surprise. For a moment, he could have sworn that his heart fell straight out of his body and flopped on the ground beneath him. It was like a soft voice from a distant memory, one he had feared that he had lost forever.

"H..Helle?" Shutting his eyes hard, he tried to clear his vision, trying to make sure that he wasn't dreaming. But there she was, like a blown-up version of that same small cub that he had let slide right through his paws.

Helle started to cry, not understanding why. She didn’t understand her feelings, the strange mix of loss and relief. Loss, for all the time they could have spent together, relief for finding him again. Him. Her brother.

They were supposed to meet under the tree, that was how the dream went, but she started to walk towards him, almost stuck in a trance. She had to touch him, to bury her face in his mane. To smell him and know it was really her flesh-and-blood brother, not just another dream.

“Phrixus,” she repeated, smiling despite the tears. “I missed you.”

Eyes dropping, Phrixus felt a wave of guilt wash over him. "I...I missed you, too, Helle." His eyes faltered as he looked back up at her, taking a small step forward. If only he had taken better care, back then, to make sure that she was safe and secure, then maybe they wouldn't have had to wait this long. What if she had been searching for him as relentlessly as he had been for her? He couldn't forgive himself to letting so much time slip by with them being separated.

"I'm...I'm so sorry." He hesitated, bringing a paw up as if to move forward. He wanted to touch her, to wrap her up in his paws and not let her go until he was sure that it was really his sister that was there in front of him. But he couldn't. Deep down, he still felt the pain and guilt that he had felt that day; he had carried it with him, this whole time, not letting himself be forgiven for letting her slip away like that.

"You...I..." Eyes moving back and forth, he wasn't sure what else to say. He wasn't sure if she was mad, or if she just wanted to move on.

Helle stopped a few paces from her brother, abruptly aware that the lion before her was a stranger. What good were dreams, compared to meeting someone face to face? She'd watched him grow, watched him wander, but he'd never been more than an imaginary friend. She'd never been able to smell him, the way she could smell him now. Never touched him, never even heard his voice! No, she'd only watched from afar, flying on the wings of a bird.

She smiled at her brother, the stranger, not understanding why he was apologizing. She had no bad memories of him, no proper memories at all. But she'd never seen him be cruel or unkind in her dreams. If this dream was coming true, then surely all the other dreams were true as well?

"It's all right," she said. "What ever it is, it's all right. Charon said family's the most important thing... and you're my brother, aren't you?"

Letting out soft sigh, Phrixus gave her a soft smile. It was a bit odd, standing here with her; he didn't know what to expect at all, he had no idea of what her personality had come to be. But surely, just surely, it was something sweet and amazing.

"Helle, so much has been lost." His brow furrowed a bit, wondering how much of her life had been sucked up by their separation. Most of his life since then had been dedicated to finding her, to trying to make up for everything that was taken from them. What if all those things hadn't happened? What if they had had a loving and constant family? Maybe they would have known each other all this time; maybe he would actually fully know the lioness standing in front of him.

"I'm...afraid that we must start from the beginning, you and I." Looking off towards the horizon, he was starting to feel a bit numb. This whole affair so far had been such a mixture of emotions; happiness at finding her, sorrow from his own guilt, and now this odd nothingness knowing that they had very little shared history up until this point.

Helle looked at her brother and wondered. What would it be like if he wasn't a stranger, if he was someone she knew properly? How would it feel to have someone she'd known all her life, someone she'd grown up with, blood of her blood?

Charon's always been there, she reminded herself, but it wasn't the same. He was the closest thing she had to a father and she never would have left him had he not urged her to do so, but he'd always been distant, apart. He'd joined her each and every night, but her days had been long and empty.

Not that the stranger before her had ever been there, even nights. But she held no blame; he was not responsible for their separation and she believed, deeply and truly, that he was a good lion.

"Where else is there?" she asked softly. "Everything starts at the beginning... brother."

Staring blankly at her for a moment, Phrixus' heart jumped a little with the word 'brother.' It was a title that, for the longest time, he didn't think he even deserved to dream about. But it was nice, now, hearing it from her.

"I..." Letting out a huff of a laugh, Phrixus was starting to feel a little lighter about the whole situation. They were there, together, finally; he hadn't actually planned this far. He had always hoped and wished that they'd meet again, but it had all but turned into just that; a fantasy.

"I'm not sure what to do now, my dear Helle." His voice was a little stronger now, and he could manage to keep a slight grin on his face. She didn't seem angry or upset, so he'd just roll with this feeling for as long as he could. But he was at a loss as to what to do from here; where would they go? Would they start a life together, as a family? They were both grown, though, and he knew that she might have an entire life already.

Until today, Helle had never known whether Phrixus was a flesh and blood lion or nothing more than a passing fancy. For all that she had seen all of the places he had traveled, the only place she knew or understood was the bank of the river where she grew up. Actually meeting Phrixus was such a slim probability that she had never considered what she would do if it happened. Leave Charon and the only home she'd ever known? Never! Only... she already had. And the river of the dead was no place for her brother to live, not after all of the places he had been. Charon himself had told her it was no place for the living.

Suddenly hesitant, she gathered her courage and asked, "Perhaps... I might travel with you? If it won't be a burden."

Feeling a bit more confident as each moment passed, Phrixus knew that it was all because of his dear sister; she really had grown into something amazing, hadn't she? A lion like him didn't really deserve her in his life, yet here she was, finally.

"O....Of course!" Eyes widening for a moment, Phrixus was a little in disbelief. He couldn't really imagine why anyone would want to travel with him, and it seemed like by this point, he had become the burdensome one. After all, he had spent his whole life since the incident searching for her, so now he was pretty much just a lump of fluff with nothing. Well, except her, now.

"I...oh, my. You've made me the happiest brother in the world, you know that?" Giving her a smile, he wasn't really sure how to proceed, but he knew that it'd at least be a great adventure, with her by his side.
