Kyndall did her best with the very limited budget she had. Most of it was dependant on volunteer work and the generous contributions of local businesses and patrons. The conference room was transformed into a medieval paradise, cardboard painted stone relief tacked to the wall and long tables stretched with clothes and set with chairs along the front and sides. A stage sat behind, unused and dark. Curtains hung over painted cardboard windows to add to the feel that they were in the Grand Hall of a castle.
There were modern niceties, of course, like a long table with food and punch in the back and a bar selling alcohol (strict limit on that, of course) nearby and another table selling DVD copies of the night's performance. Someone was standing near the door ready to stamp tickets or direct people to the booth near the entrance to buy them. Generic masks were provided with ticket stamps. More masks, or more ornate ones, were available for sale nearby. The goal here was money for charity, after all. They'd have an auction or two later. A band was off in the corner ready to play music to encourage people to the open space in between the tree long banquet tables.
She had the lights dimmed, a mock chandelier hanging over head. People would be arriving soon she hoped...

The strap from the light green and silver mask dangled from the fingers of Arian’s left hand as he stood sipping the glass of punch he’d picked up near the cardboard made up to look like stone relief that had been attached to the wall. The strap from the light green and silver mask dangled from the fingers of Arian’s left hand as he stood sipping the glass of punch he’d picked up near a table selling dvd copies of the play. The mask had been an impulse buy – a very impulse buy – brought on by the fact that the dark-haired teen hadn’t actually dressed up in costume for the event and the plain mask that had come with the ticket had looked pretty boring. Still it wasn’t as if he’d shelled out on one of the super fancy masks and it was all for a good cause – everything sold seemed to be going to charity after all. He drank some more of the punch as he stared around the room, taking in the cardboard made up to look like stone relief attached and the long tables that made the place look kind of like some sort of great hall – maybe kind of fitting considering what the play had been. Maybe at some point he’d go and see what food was on offer, but for now Arian was content enough taking in his surroundings.

King Uther was wearing most of his costume from the play, as it had turned out rather handsome. He had dolled it up with a new cape and a crown he had invested in for the party, and made sure he looked presentable in a medieval fashion.
At least he no longer felt strange in feeling so comfortable in armor, even fake armor. No, now he felt perfectly out of place and awkward, as he should have in the first place, blushing furiously as he walked into the hall and looked around.
He needed to find his date, and blend in with the rest of the dressed up goons.
Still, he was feeling proud. All of this for charity, all of this for good intentions and because of a woman he cared rather deeply for. He smiled as he looked around and took note of the decorations, the tables of food and drink, the section for dancing that looked big enough for one of those choreographed doo dahs from victorian times. But that was mixing the chronology and his brain hurt a bit.
Plus, he was pretty sure he wasn't going to be dancing. Maybe.
Tony sighed and spotted his lady friend fretting away near the stage, and he moved toward her. He caught her in his arms and hugged her close on impulse, nuzzling her affectionately and kissing her cheek.
"This is very beautiful," he said, though just what he meant was vague. "You've really out done yourself, Kyndall."

Kyndall was fretting near the stage and visibly relaxed when he came near. She'd taken the utmost care to dress for the event. Her dress was just as she'd envisioned and she'd worked in the headpiece and necklace she'd received from the Darrows for Christmas. Her hair was piled on top of her head in a mass of curls and her mask did little to conceal her identity but that was essential when throwing a function. She held onto him, her tension easing away. Really, he was handsome in armor. It's part of why she fell for him. The aura of a knight practically shone out of him. She smiled.
"The Lady of Shalott, at your service." she said softly so that only he could hear. Before he could protest, though, she laughed and kissed his cheek. "Don't worry. I've been telling everyone I'm dressed as Guinevere as promised."
Perhaps she was a little old for the part but she certainly didn't mind that. It was fun just to dress up and have a good time and she liked feeling beautiful. She felt even more beautiful when he looked at her the way he was and she almost blushed under his gaze. His compliments didn't help much to that affect.
"Thank you. I'm amazed how well everything turned out. The volunteers were amazing."
She's used her daughter as a volunteer, here meaning forced unpaid labor. Harm didn't protest too loudly knowing how much it meant to her mother. The girl was supposed to make an appearance and it bothered her that her daughter hadn't shown up yet.
"You look dashing." Kyndall gushed. "I think armor suits you better than you let on."

Harm took a deep breath as she entered the Ball Room. It turned out lovelier than she'd imagined when she helped paint the individual pieces. Put all together the room was magnificent and authentic looking. From far away she couldn't tell the walls were painted and cardboard. Everything was draped and framed and she couldn't help but feel a little proud that she'd helped make this happen for everyone who came and also for the charity it benefited.
She had a ticket and handed it to the person stamping them and waved off the mask. She had a mask of her own. It matched her dress in a complimenting tone. Her hair was gathered up in a mesh caul, a few tendrils of curls framing her face. She felt beautiful, having spent a very long time trying to find the right dress that fit just so and complimented her well. Alexandre would have been proud.
She spotted Arian right away and moved toward him. She hadn't seen the boy since new years and, even better, he'd been picked to be her blind date for this thing she signed up for. If anyone asked her why she wouldn't be able to tell them especially after seeing herself matched up with Jett of all people. That was in the same arena as being paired with Tony's son Nathan or even Raven. Harm shuddered once at the idea before shaking the thoughts away.
"Arian, hi!" She greeted him warmly. "You came! I'm glad! How are you?"

For a moment Arian looked slightly puzzled as a voice called his name, but puzzlement turned into a friendly smile as he looked over and recognised the mint-haired teen approaching him. Returning Harmony’s greeting, Arian asked after her health in turn noting that she seemed to have actually made an effort with her costume – unlike himself who had simply bought a mask to cover the ‘masquerade’ aspect of the ball. Privately the dark-haired teen thought that the green and gold dress suited Harmony and he mentioned the fact that he thought he costume looked good, exchanging a few more pleasantries before politely excusing himself.
Arian politely exchanged some more pleasantries with some of the other masquerade attendees while waiting at the food table for some food to munch on. He’d ended up with a slice of cake and some biscuits and had ended up sheepishly added a couple of sandwiches and a chicken leg to it before finding somewhere to sit so that he could much through what was effectively likely to be pretty much supper for the evening.
At some point the band started up and Arian let his feet tap to the rhythm, although he didn’t get up to join the dancing – dancing wasn’t exactly his forte.
It was relatively late when he finally left – at least for him – letting the dvd seller talk him into buying one of the dvds of the play on the way out. It was something he’d probably watch come weekend or maybe it was something to watch with his cousin during one of their odd movies nights.
[ooc note: changed this to a closing post as I’ve found out that the orp has been discontinued]
