No one is certain how new totems come into existence; it seems that they are always hanging from the ward-tree's branches in undiminished numbers. In time, some might notice that new guardians bear a curious resemblance to guardians who came before…
Breeding rules
- A guardian must be an adult (buck/doe) to breed.
Owners can win a maximum of one breeding slot every two months (for all of their guardians).
As guardians do not physically reproduce, m/f, f/f and m/m pairings can all contribute their spirit essences toward new totems.
Each owner may keep one totem. If you're unable to find homes for additional totems, we will give them away for you.
Immediate relatives and ancestors/descendants cannot breed. Cousins are fine. If in doubt, ask!
Breedings result in 2-4 totems. Two is the default; additional totems may be earned by:
1. Intent to gift a totem to a newbie (someone who doesn't have a guardian yet)
2. RP thread(s) completed between both parents within the past two months (at least 20 posts total)
3. One or both parents is an awakened guardian (50% chance of extra totem per parent)
Breeding slots
- Please check colorists' personal breeding pages for slot availability. Slot openings will be announced in the main thread.
Regular breeding slots cost 15k gold. With a regular breeding slot, premade edits may pass down to offspring at the colorist's discretion. Body styles and rare premade edits (edits that are not listed on the customs page, such as the Samhain skull mask) may pass down on a limited basis. Unique edits will never pass down. Please keep in mind that although premade edits can pass down with regular breeding slots, they are not guaranteed to do so—hence why we offer edited slots!
Edited breeding slots cost 50k gold. With an edited breeding slot, at least one offspring is guaranteed to inherit a unique or rare edit—sometimes multiple edits—from one or both of its parents. Please keep in mind that certain types of edits are not heritable (we will let you know if this is the case). Edits may also change in appearance as they are passed on. Not all colorists do edited breedings and those who do may choose not to open edited slots; please visit their personal page for details before applying for a slot.
If a colorist does not specify which type of slots they're opening, always assume that the slots are regular, not edited.
In character information
- From an IC standpoint, neither guardians nor their chosen know exactly how new totems are produced.
However, "breeding" seems to occur when two guardians encounter one another and share an emotional connection, even if it's brief...
Guardians are typically unaware that their essence has mingled with another guardian's. The process is usually unintentional.
In most cases guardians do not seek out or recognize their offspring. Sometimes, perhaps because their attitude toward family and parent/child relationships has been influenced by their mental connection with their chosen, they may be interested in finding, meeting, and even establishing a relationship with their relatives. You are free to RP out family dynamics (or a lack thereof) however you want!
