During her gestation period, she was infused with nanobots, as an experiment to determine the power of shape shifters, for military use. She was initially a success, but as she got older, she became more curious about things, and would on several occasions, refuse to listen to the scientists as she was observing something. Eventually sick of it, they pinned her to a wall and put a mask on her, forcing an anesthetic gas on her. When she woke up, she was in a cage in the slave market. She watched over a town for hundreds of years, protecting it from harm, until one day, in an act to prove that they didn't need her, the villagers surrounded her, tied her up, beat her, and sent her away. They rejoiced merrily until, at the height of their celebration, the army of a nearby village, having found out that Shirubā had been sent away, stormed the village. The last few survivors realized their mistake, and died pleading for her to return. Shirubā Shijima herself was brought to the slave market, where she is at the mercy of whoever buys her.
