Personality:
Gentle - Soft-spoken and compassionate; Shinrei is a kind man. He never reacts in any way violently or cruel. In everything he does Shinrei means well and it shows on his face and in his actions. It is possible to anger him, though for the most part he feels only a deep sadness and a desire to help you.
Idealistic – He strongly believes there is good in everyone and that if he only offers a smile and shoulder to cry on, everything will turn out fine. Shinrei is full of this endless optimism. Every time something bad happens, he continues to tell himself it will get better… and when it eventually does, it simply reaffirms that belief. He is prepared to work hard if necessary to achieve his dreams of unity between Pokemon and humans.
Composed – Are you angry? Perhaps you should go yell at somebody else. Shinrei will not bat an eyelash. He will however, calmly ask you if you would like a drink of water… once you’ve done stomping around that is. Shinrei is completely unruffled by what goes on around him. He watches and learns, and reacts to everything with the same serene look. Very few things are able to shatter his composure.
Self-sacrificing – Your well-being, in Shinrei’s mind, is more important than his. He will not hesitate too give up everything he has if it is necessary. He has grown up within a group and can not imagine not being willing to die for his fellow Pokemon. If you become his friend, you are guaranteed a companion that will ultimately give his all for you. His dream is also his duty, and he will sacrifice his own happiness in order to realise it. Sometimes Shinrei takes this too far and it is thus easy for cruel minded people to manipulate him.
Absent-minded – Shinrei will forget your name, and don’t even attempt to make an appointment with him, because he will not turn up. Not only does this Chimecho have no sense of time, he has no sense of obligation when it comes to arriving at all punctually. He often becomes quite lost in his own thoughts or simply becomes engrossed in something for so long he forgets exactly where he is and that he might have places to be. Less important facts (like how you like your coffee) tend to slip his mind, but it’s hard to be too angry when he simply smiles and shrugs.
Strengths: Quickly adapts to most situations. Fast learner. Isn't deterred by failure. Has great musical ability.
Weaknesses: Unwilling to completely believe things he had been told until he has experienced it for himself. Is a pacifist with no fighting ability at all. Prone to illness.
Hobbies: Singing, learning how to read, studying humans
Likes: Music, night, butterflies, honey, children, cuddling, forests Dislikes: Cruelty, thunder storms, fire, alcohol, the taste of coffee (does however like the smell)
Quirks: - Does not understand the concept of possessive love or marriage. Those are ‘human’ ideas and they both baffle and amuse him. As a Pokemon, there was no such things as promises yourself to someone for life and he can’t imagine being annoyed if a current or former mate took on another partner.
- Also has no concept of personal space. As a Chimecho he was always around his fellow Pokemon, constantly clinging to each other for support and just because they enjoyed being close. Thus Shinrei has a hard to time realising when he has overstepped the bounds, or that his touch might be taken as something more...
Other: -Is a vegetarian. -Has zero skill with battling and is generally a pacifist.

History:
Shinrei remembers a face. It is a kind face. It is the face of a human. It smiles down at him, and he can feel small fingers brush away the remnants of his egg. As he stretches little arms for the first time, lips opened into a delighted smile. He could not help but smile back. That is a cherished moment in his memory. Nothing that came after was ever terrible, or filled with pain, but he holds the memory of that human face in his heart like a shield.
The moments after that are a blur. Confusion and fright, before he realises that the ones he had placed in the dark with are other Chingling’s. They cling together, amongst blankets, and listen to the roar of the world. The world moves around them and if they do not drop to the ground, they are thrown sideways. It is not a happy time, but they comfort each other. Sometimes they all cry out in high-ringing chimes, but the world does not stop its ceaseless rumbling movement and eventually they grow quiet again.
They are sleeping when it finally does stop. There are new noises and voices to wake them. But none of the Chingling’s are afraid anymore. They can sense no ill will, they are merely curious as they are herded out into the night air. Trees surround and loom above them. The brilliant night sky twinkles down and a bright moon casts light upon the group. A white beast roars to life again and they are left behind in, what Shinrei would only learn later, a Pokemon reserve.
From then on, Shinrei was a wild Pokemon. The small group of Chingling’s clung together, learnt how to adapt and survive. They played and loved and found great happiness together. It was during that time that some of their number, Shinrei included, evolved. One fine night, in the moonlight, they transformed. They were content in their little part of the world, knowing nothing of what was beyong the forest.
Then as time went by, that began to change.
There had always been many other Pokemon in the reserve, but the Chimecho and Chingling’s rarely gave them a passing glance. They were content with each others company. However as more new and rather interesting Pokemon began to arrive, Shinrei grew curious. He began to follow some of them, asking questions of what the world outside was like. Some spoke well of it, but most spoke great ill. Many of the Pokemon brought to the park were those that had been abandoned or mistreated. They spoke of their hatred and disgust; they spoke of how to humans Pokemon were nothing more than tools.
Shinrei would remember that first image of his birth and he would become troubled.
He refused to believe the stories he was told, but at the same time he could not discount them. There were those who had the scars to prove that ill had befallen them. Thus Shinrei decided there was only one course of action left to him; he would leave the reserve and discover the truth.
~-~
One night before his departure he dreams of a city and he knows it to be a city despite never having been to one. There are so many humans, their faces obscured by darkness, all marching along the streets to some indescribable beat. Voices whisper in his ears. These are the voices of those he had met, Pokemon who have recited their stories to him; so many tales of pain. But he can barely hear them. He wants to follow the people… where are they going…?
The dream shifts and he is surrounded by his friends and family. Chingling’s and Chimecho’s all packed together away from a stormy night. He feels a keen sorrow that he will be leaving them behind. They have been together almost since birth and the thought of discovering the world alone is frightening. But he can hardly take them along. Who knows what truth’s lie beyond the forest?
A Musharna smiles and makes his offer. Both human and Pokemon; was it even possible? If he were like that surely it would be easier to see the world. He could understand humans properly, and respond to them in their own voice.
The Chimecho accepts.
[OOC note: I imagine Musharna would have chosen Shinrei because he would be a fairly good advocate for Pokekind. He’s kind and wants to learn about the world. He wants to work with humans in a positive way.]
~-~
Shinrei awoke changed. He stretched out new long, pale limbs and blinked into at the surrounding forest with new eyes. His friends and family were creating a great commotion and he felt strangely alone as he covered his ears to protect them from the sound. It took them time to accept what had occurred.
He who had once been a Chimecho thought that perhaps this change made it easier to accept his leaving. He was, after all, not the same as he had been.
And so Shinrei stumbled from the forest towards his new life, knowing nothing of humans but excited of all that he would learn.
~-~
His first foray into the human world turned out to be awkward and just a bit frightening. Everything was too new and too different… and clearly there were rules you had to follow when interacting with humankind. A lack of clothing was not acceptable and neither was close contact upon the first meeting.
Thankfully speaking came naturally, and after a bit of stumbling around with explanations, his lack of social grace was accepted by the small village he had arrived in. They spoke of how there were others like him emerging all over the Pokeworld.
Shinrei spent three months learning; going to school with the children and sitting with the elders. Eventually he left, bidding his new friends goodbye. With each place he visited he became more self-reliant and a sense of serenity settled upon him, and yet his thirst for knowledge never faltered. He continues along, seeing the world and now hopes to meet one of his own…

For reference:
To say he was overwhelmed would be a complete understatement. Shinrei had only just begun to feel confident with this ‘walking’ business and now he had been thrust into what felt like another world. It was a complete assault upon his new senses.
Shinrei brought his hand up to his face, unconsciously pressing his fingers against his lips to hold back a soft gasp of dismay. He longed for the quiet glade he had awoken in. The transformation had seemed magical then. Now he only felt awkward and ungainly as normal people danced past, setting off firecrackers and shouting happily at each other in a bid to be heard. It was a cacophony and Shinrei’s human ears did not take well to it in the slightest.
Why had he even bothered coming here in the first place, you might ask? His first hint of the New Year festival had been the music, a melodious voice and the banging of drums. It was only once he had gotten closer that his curiosity had shifted into something more akin to horror. If only he could enjoy it as much as he wanted to. The delighted faces of those around him were infectious. They tugged at him to respond, to join in… and then something else tugged at him, in a much more physical sense. It was a little hand grabbing hold of his sleeve.
Shinrei glanced down, blinking owlishly at the little human child, his hand still pressed firmly across his mouth. He lowered it slowly and offered the girl a gentle smile.
“Come on Mr.!” The girl, smiling widely to show off the gap where her two front teeth should have been, tugged at him insistently. “You’re in the wrong place!”
“Oh no, I think have mistaken me for…” But where somehow she had managed to be heard over the ruckus, his voice was hardly audible. “… someone else.” He finished quietly, knowing it was pointless.
The girl continued to pull at his sleeve and he eventually relented, letting her lead him down the street, past the loud revelers.
Shinrei’s trust in her was soon rewarded as the sounds of the festival changed, from fire crackers and discord; to the bright tune of music. He relaxed and moved his hand, carefully slipping it into the girl’s in replace of his sleeve. She didn’t seem to mind, just looked back at him with another bright grin. Occasionally he stumbled, legs becoming confused, but she would help catch him before he did.
They walked past booths with shouting vendors, games of chance and skill, and the delicious aroma of food until they reached an area where the music reigned supreme.
“Didja get lost? Or didja have too much of the funny drink?” The girl asked him with a cheeky grin. “It’s okay, I won’t tell. Jus’ don’t fall off the stage.”
The stage? Shinrei spotted it quickly. In fact, it was impossible to miss, and it was currently holding a trio of musicians and a two dancers. He would have been more than happy to stop here and watch, but the human child continued until they were alongside the stage and in front of a small set of steps leading up.
“No…” Shinrei began to protest but the dancers had spotted him and they bowed to the crowd in goodbye and thanks. As they left the stage, passing by Shinrei, one gave him an encouraging pat on the shoulder. Then little hands pressed into his back and pushed him up the steps.
Faced by the crowd with the musicians waiting behind him, Shinrei looked bewildered. He looked pleadingly towards the little girl and she grinned at him, waiting for him to... do what? There was one skill he possessed. Or at least he had one skill he hoped he still possessed. He took a deep breath; one hand curled gently against his chest, and opened his mouth.
On the night of his first festival experienced as kin to humanity, the Chimecho sung.
