Emily had managed to learn how to flutter a bit and even manage small moments of flight. Other than that, she hadn't mastered true flight. Walking out to the park, she thought she'd try some more. Looking around so as not to be disturbed by any other kits that might decide to make fun of her, she fluttered her gold colored wings as hard as she could. Elation rolled through her as her paws lifted off the ground though that elation was soon followed by a small frown and discouraged grumbling as she soon flopped back down. Why did her flight abilities seem to come and go so?

Today Théo had decided to take his time while strolling through the park and enjoy more of the scenery. That is, until he spotted a kit practicing flying and then falling. Théo couldn't help but chuckle to himself as he scanned the area for her teacher. When he could find no adult on the ground he checked the skies. Still no one.
Confused, Théo wandered over to the kit with concern on his face. "Excuse me, young lady, but where is your instructor? Did they fly off without you, expecting you to follow them?" He shook his head as if already upset with the adult that had ditched the child unknowingly.

Emily let out a small squeak at the sudden voice. Turning slowly, she eyed the stranger wearily. "M-my t-teacher?" She questioned looking at him with wide, innocent eyes. Pondering this further, she assumed he meant a parental unit who might be looking after her, showing her how to fly. Giggling lightly, she shook her head causing her over sized ears to flap around and smack her in the face repeatedly. "None... I've b-been teaching m-myself.." She offered a small, meek smile. "My mothers are wingless..."

"Wingless?" Théo asked. He glanced at the kit's back to confirm that he hadn't been mistaken. Nope, she did have wings, very pretty golden ones. Yet to Théo's knowledge the goddess was not one to bless a wingless couple with a winged bowl. Though, perhaps, there was a history of wings that both mothers had not received.
Théo shrugged off his question, not caring if the kit had answered while his thoughts had wandered or not. "Well then, little one, if you don't mind me asking, how are you doing in your lessons?" His voice was patient and questioning, but his eyes held humor.

She nodded. "You see.. I'm adopted.. so.. That's why my mothers don't have wings and I do.." She eyed him as he seemed to be in thought and looked around a moment, idly fanning and folding her wings as she allowed her mind to wander some.
His voice brought her attention back all at once though. Turning her head back to face him she smiled. "Well.. I guess you could say not very fast learned...." She chuckled lightly. "My bottom seems to keep finding it's way back to the ground."

Théo chuckled in reply, "I can see how that's a problem." He loved the way kits explained things. "I had a similar problem when I was your age." He remembered the troubles he had had all too easy, each bruise and scrape causing him to wince again. Looking down at the girl, Théo felt a wave of sympathy and impending pity at the prospect of her learning such a delicate technique as flying on her own.
"Hey, I have an idea," Théo said finding himself struck with a need to help. "How would you feel about having me as teacher? I'm an excellent flier... Or so I like to tell myself. Ah, but perhaps introductions should be first?" He smiled, having only just now realized he still did not know the kit's name despite having a conversation with her. "My name is Théo. What's yours?"

Emily pondered having a teacher a moment. "I'm Emily." She said with a small meek smile of her own. "It's nice to meet you Mr Theo." Her tail flicked lightly as she weighed out the pro's and con's of letting some one help her learn to fly. So often was it that she was willing to take the initiative and do things to help others that she didn't stop and think of letting some one else help her. Finally coming a conclusion, she gave a small nod, more for herself than anyone. "All right... If you think I'll be a good student.. I'd like to learn."

Théo beamed as he replied, "Emily~ A lovely name. The pleasure is mine." He dipped his head in acknowledgment before watching the little one think. Théo was very amused as he almost saw her mind whirling away as she thought about her options.
Finally she spoke and Théo cheered. "Awesome!" He coughed, realizing too late how immature that sounded, as he blushed just a tad. "I'm sure you will be fine." He took a moment to glance at where the sun was, before continuing, "Do you have time for a lesson today?"

Emily nodded with a small giggle. "I have time... I don't have to be home for an Hour.. I told my moms where I was going so they wouldn't worry." She sat, waiting for what he did next, What lesson would she learn today?

"Alright, then," Théo started, "I saw that you have enough strength in your wings to gain lift for a while, but not for long." He paced a bit infront of Emily as he pondered the best course of action. "First off, I will assign your 'homework': You must flap your wings any chance you get. I don't mean you have to force yourself to come off the ground, but you need to build lots of muscle." Théo flapped his wings hard, causing a wind gust, to show off his own power. "As you continue to grow up, your body will get bigger and heavier so you must make sure your wings can always support you. Right now, how often do you practice or at least flap your wings?"

She furrowed her brow a little. "Well.." She squeaked out, a bit intimidated by his pacing. "I don't do it but maybe once a day.. When ever my younger sisters don't need me.." She flapped her wings a bit, trying to build up her own little dust cloud like he had. Sadly the remnants of his dust cloud reached her nose, causing her small form to shudder and then.. "Achoo!" She exploded with a hefty sneeze that sent her tumbling backwards. "Sorry..." She sniffled as she scrambled to get back to her feet.

Théo could not help but chuckle when Emily sneezed, despite being obviously apologetic. "Sorry about that." He decided it was probably best to hold still and sit before her instead of walking around. "See if you can double that. Even if you feel a bit silly, try flapping lightly even as you walk." Théo gave it a moment's thought before realizing the potential for teasing from other kits. "Or at least while you're hanging with your mothers or sisters." Family should provide some protection, right?
"I think today is probably better used as a 'theory' day, if you don't mind; Since we don't have much time and all." Théo glanced around, as if he was looking for something, until the wind lightly blew his fur about. The gust managed to pick up a few fallen leaves from the ground and drift them up and across Théo and Emily's path. "Okay, so you see those leaves being lifted? The wind can be a big help or hindrance for anything wishing to fly."

"I suppose I could do that.." She nodded with a bit of determination as she righted herself finally and dusted herself off a bit. Idly she fluttered her wings as she listened to him talk. "But how does it help?" Her eyes had that large orb like quality that usually is seen when a youngster gets curious.

"Well, the wind likes to lift things," Théo said while crinkling his nose and smiling. "It will help your wings push you up with just a light flap." The wind picked up again, ruffling feathers where it could, before dying down once more. "It also glides over your wings and body while you fly, keeping you lifted for periods so you can soar without straining yourself." Théo's eyes glistened, enjoying his memories of every flight he ever took.
"However," the male continued, his face going grim, "if you don't pay attention, the wind might also over power you or leave you to fall...."

Her eyes got even wider. "Oh..... That sounds.. dangerous..." She looked up at the sky with even wider eyes. "So the wind.. is fickle then?" Her tail swished lightly as she looked back at him. "What else does the wind do?" Her head tilted off to the side as her pink eyes fixed on him intently. She didn't want to miss anything in this lesson. After all, if it wasn't for the kindness of this one strange she might not ever learn to fly.
