Danny was out for her routine check of Roch's dorm. She was almost becoming militant in how often she checked it to make sure he hadn't returned without her. Once in the morning, after her early jog around the campus, and once after all of her classes had ended.
Today she'd missed the morning check because ... well she'd slept in to be honest. Danny wasn't really the type to sleep in, but with all the stress she'd be under lately, she'd been overdoing it a tad. Staying up on the hexbox with Michi later. Sparring in the gym for longer. Studying. Yeah, actually jacking studying for once.
So that made it the afternoon check. Unceremoniously, she knocked on the door and said, "Roch?" There was no response, and she nodded her head, turning away from the door. Still no sign of him. She began walking a few steps, as she always did. No Roch still. Maybe he wasn't returning. Yin had said to try though, so she was.
That text she'd gotten though ... it said he'd be back. So why wasn't he back?

Roch headed down the hall to his room, his guitar slung over his back, a slightly bittersweet smile on his face. He'd made a decision. A lot of people might call it a cowardly decision, but he was going to jackin' well stick to it. A friend--a close friend, one that he could share things with, that was jackin' well more important than a stupid crush.
He had no doubts about just who and what he was, after all. Not this time around. He almost didn't even notice the fire demon heading in his direction as he thought about his grand decision.

My that boil looked a lot like Roch. The purpl-
"Roch!" Danny screamed, nearly afraid that if she didn't shout something RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT he might disappear again. In a matter of seconds she was flinging down the hallway and throwing her arms over him. Her nose buried deep into his neck. Why was she feeling so much more grabby than usual? Plus her heartbeats were just off the richter scale. She wasn't even this way with Rikki. What.
Still not detaching from him, she said, "Roch where did you go? You sent that text but I mean you were gone and I looked with Hel-" She took her head up for a moment and then hugged him all the more tighther. Still not even letting him get a word in, she said, "I missed you."

"Can't--breathe," he gasped as her demonic strength threatened some of his rips. "Looser--please?" he begged. He probably should have called her earlier, huh? He frowned as his heartbeat sped up just a little bit, and wrote it off as panic over death by best-friend.

Very stubbornly, Danny said, "No." She wanted to hold him. So damn straight she was going to.
She did at least loosen the grip on him. Now it wasn't a crush so much as it was a big long bear hug.
Truth be told, part of her way very afraid that if she let go, he might go running off. Yin had told her to talk it out with Roch, but ... Well part of her was worried that when they talked, Roch might run off without her again. No, she would just be holding on for a while longer.

"Oookay," he said slowly, then wrapped his arms around her waist, picking her up and carrying her a bit awkwardly to his door, where he put her down and squirmed in her hold so he could unlock the door. Then he picked her up again and headed inside.
Then he dropped down on his bed, expecting her to move so she was seated as well. "Okay, from the beginning!" he said. "Granddad asked me to go check out an old friend of his--er, school for reapers," he said reluctantly. "He kept shoving it on me till I went just to say I had, see?"

Danny had to resist letting out an incredibly ghouly squeal as Roch carried her into his room. This was like ten times better than a Yin piggy back ride. Roch never did stuff like this! She would've just been happy to know he wasn't running off, but now he wasn't running off AND he was carrying her? Talk about lucking out.
Once he threw himself on the bed, Danny had to do an awkward sort of slide off of him. Her tail was about three inches from his blankets! That would've been a horrible way to start this off. Jack, you had to be more careful where you threw your flaming ghouls!
Now that she was done tumbling down onto the ground, Danny just spread herself out there, leaning back on her hands and her legs sprawling out on the ground. "School ... of reapers?" she said, prodding his story onward.

"No more tail cage?" he asked curiously as he noticed the change. "Oh, yeah, well it was more like a prison than a school," he went on, frowning. "All boils, five o'clock drills on this jackin' obstacle course, and this room that stopped you from usin' your FEAR, it blew," he told her, lounging comfortably on his bed as he watched her with a slightly strange expression.
It was unwittingly predatory, that expression. Wait, he thought, what was he doing? This was DANNY. His expression changed.
"I made some pals, though," he said, cheering up again. "I'm gonna have to find them during a holiday or somethin, get their numbers."

Danny's tail flicked idly at its mention, and she cursed under her breath lightly. "Yeah. I kind of- ... Smashed it." She looked away, slightly embarrassed. It was really hard to pick up all the little glass pieces afterwards. She'd ever tried slipping it on her tail again to make amends with the poor metal, but the hold was so dented and askew that it was impossible.
To be honest ... she was actually rather glad to be rid of her "tail cage." It was just that. A cage. She had always told herself it was for her friends though. She ... kind of missed being free like this. Danny knew she had to get it replaced soon though. It wouldn't be fair to her friends.
"Anyways. That sounds scary," she said, looking back up at him with big eyes. She noticed quite a few bruises and cuts, but didn't comment on them. They weren't really ... a big deal to her. She came home with bruises and cuts quite a bit. Maybe not so many at once but ... "Are you okay now?"

"I'd be better with a--" He barely stopped himself from saying "hug." WHAT THE JACK? Sure, he'd had trouble talking to Taryn, but he'd expected to have trouble talking to Taryn. He'd already acknowledged that he was attracted to the monster. But this--what the hell? This was DANNY.
The look of confusion on his face was probably amusing, had someone else known what he was thinking. As it was, it was just... well, confusing. Briefly he realized he'd been letting the sentence linger too long. "Snack," he finished. "I'd be better with a snack."

Snack? Had Roch not eaten at this reaper's camp? Either way, Danny was feeling very generous today. "Do you want me to order pizza or something?" She was quite aware that Roch could order it himself, but probably not ... pay for it. Either way, she already had her phone out.
She still hadn't quite clicked that Roch had been held captive in this school place, even though Roch had pretty much spelled it out. "So then ... why did you go to the school?" Her face fell a bit as she realized the answer might not be so positive for her. She had to know though.
Looking back up at Roch, she felt a little bit better. Had his eyes always been so handsomely sharp? The way his moehawk sort of sagged to the side of his head and fell in his face ... it was kind of attractive to be honest. Danny shook her head though. Obviously she was just happy that he came home; she had suffered Roch withdrawal after all! That's what this was. That's exactly what this was.

"Cuz Vegas told me to," he said, repeating himself with a sigh. "You really think I would go to an all-boil school by choice? But its over now, I'm back at school, and all I really suffered from was a broken nose," he said with a shrug.
Jack, he should probably kick her out, he thought. Something was definitely wrong with him. He was starting to feel... nervous. And like he wanted--
Just the hint of the thought made his mind rebel. "Danny? I know you probly don't wanna talk about it, but... have you heard from Rikki?"

Vegas? Why would Vegas make him do that? Danny loved Vegas- clearly Roch was just misguided. It must've been Austin that made him do it. There was no way awesome, kickass Austin would-
Well nevermind that. Danny could tell he wasn't telling the whole truth. She wasn't about to pry though. That was just how they worked. Besides, she didn't really have time to pry when he was busy asking questions about...
Rikki. Danny's face fell. "No. I haven't. He left school for two weeks," she said, quoting the sign that had hung on his door. It was weird that Roch hadn't seen it. Unless ... he was talking about something else?
Either way, it was making her uncomfortable. She stood up out of sheer anxiety and took a few steps away from Roch. "I'm ... gonna order that pizza. Give me a second." Before Roch could even protest, she stepped out of his dorm for the moment and put the skelephone to her ear. She had a short conversation with the person on the other line, ending up in 3 large pizzas headed for Roch's dorm.
To be honest ... she wanted a moment to collect her thoughts. Roch was throwing ups and downs at her and her damn heart wouldn't stop pounding every time she saw all of Roch's grin creep onto his face. Then he just threw a curveball by mentioning Rikki and- ... This was just too much. Much too much.

Roch was in the bathroom when she came back in, splashing cold water in his face. There was abso-jackin-lutely SOMETHING going on. Something wrong and EVIL, and he wasn't sure what. He looked himself in the eyes, trying to see inside of his head.
Something was wrong with him. Maybe it had been the all boil setting that screwed him up. Not enough time around ghouls must have made him sensitive or something--
He wiped his face off with his towel and headed back into the room.

By the time Danny had worked up the courage to go back into the room, Roch was still in the bathroom. She wanted to talk with him more, but she could hear the water running. There was no way you could get her into that room.
So instead she picked the papasan chair and curled up in it. It smelled like Roch- well the whole room did, but the chair especially. A small smile crossed her face. He was really back! He wasn't angry or avoiding her. He'd just ... gone to another school.
As Roch came back in the room, Danny casually said, "Pizza's ordered."
Picking at her nails, she continued, "Umm. Why did you want to know about Rikki?" She tried to say it casually, but it came out sounding a little ... warped.
