(( For those who would like to visit a grumpy Morag as she recovers from her wounding when she came to the rescue of the ambushed outpost. I thought it would be amusing. )) A growl rumbled in a throat swathed in bandages, a scowling face nearly lost beneath more of the same. Coming from a family and a pride that worshiped strength and fighting prowess, it was irritating to be made to sit around and do nothing while being coddled like a child.
But sit she did, in the shade out side the medical dens, watching the comings and goings of the pride. Despite all the pride members she had seen around, she'd yet to get a straight answer out of anyone about what had happened since she'd passed out after returning from the ambushed outpost. Had they found out who the attackers were? What about the bits and snatches she'd caught about some new group coming in from the north? Were they involved or coincidence?
Morag growled to herself as she shuffled a paw in the sand, annoyed with so many things right now.

From her spot, Shula showed as much displeasure as Morag did. To say the least, she was unhappy to be confined to the medical wards, wanting to go out and at least move, to stretch, to... Do SOMETHING. Sure, the medics let her move... A bit... But she wasn't able to leave the dens. Finally, the red lioness pushed herself to her paws, grimacing in pain before limping over and settling next to Morag. "It looks like you're going as stir-crazy as I am..." She needed SOME form of stimulation. Conversation would help. "I hope somebody comes and visits us.."

"I'm not sure I want someone to 'visit' me. I had a belly full of familial concern the day I stumbled back to the pride... Now that I'm not falling over from blood loss, I might have a few sharp words for those who seemed to think I'm unable to take care of myself. Were I truly, I would not be sitting here now."
Morag sneered at everything impartially, her tail lashing behind her. "It was not for want of trying to kill me that I survived the attack, and I like to think I gave as good as I got." A harsh smile pulled at her face, but the black lioness soon lost it in a growl of pain as it pulled at her wounded face.
The medics still weren't sure she would keep her eyesight on that side... Until the damaged healed, they said, there would be no way to really tell. It was a tense sort of waiting game where she alternated between knowing it was gone to hoping it would be fine... it made this period of inactivity even harder to bear.
"You'd welcome the attention, unlike me, I suppose. Father dotes on you." She said it simply, no inflection to give the listener a clue as to how she personally felt about the statement. It was... simply a statement.

Shula gave a bemused sort. "Take their concern where you can get it, Morag, times are changing... We won't be able to afford such a thing soon enough, if things keep going how they have been... The Hongshan's enemies are nipping at our heels now, and pretty soon everybody may be too occupied with fighting to try and begin to take care of those who are too injured to keep going... And then we'll be one with the sand." Her face pulled into a wry grin. "I think you took the eye out of the one who almost got you..." Almost being the key word. Then she shifted, letting out a sigh. "I'm actually enjoying the time without them doting... And he doesn't so much dote on me, as..." What was the word? She waved her good paw, trying to think of it. "Chases my tail in an eternal dance, I suppose you could say..." She put her paw back down, looking over at Morag. "He's proud of you, you know... All of you, all of your... Brothers, your sisters... Both in your own litter, and your half-siblings..." Even the huria. "I don't think I've ever seen a prouder father of the little spitfires he sired."

Morag shifted to sit straighter, and though she wouldn't have admitted it, she was rather pleased to hear of her father being proud of her. It felt good to know that someone cared about her achievements, even if they were the mundane kind. With her soldier of a mother and her war-like pride, growing up had been a hard path to tred. She didn't regret it, but she was not a rock. She had feelings, just like any other creature.
"I am not so proud I can not accept help when its needed, but having family arguing over me is something I can't stand. Arguing as though I weren't even there, attacking and defending my abilities right before my face... it rubbed me the wrong way and I'm glad to have had this time to myself, even if it's been dreadfully boring. I've been raised to care for myself and have been doing so for quite a while now... I think I held up well considering I was trained to hunt, not to fight invaders."
She let out a huff as she shifted herself, ignoring the tugging of healing flesh from the movement.
"I will admit, it is nice to know that they care. I just wish they didn't treat me like an invalid at the same time."

Listening to Morag's woes about family, Shula couldn't help but smile. "I suppose the previous generation raised our generation well enough that YOUR generation is a very close-knit family, Morag... But I can see where you have a problem with it all." She shifted, finding a more comfortable position again. "They're all worried about you, though... I know you already know that, but it feels worth clarifying."
The red lioness turned her gaze to the entryway for the wards, watching for anybody coming or going. Her ears flicked back, frowning a bit. "Those lions... These... Nergui... They're a troubling lot..." A snort left her nose. "I've heard stories of what the Firekin used to be, long ago, from Kosuke... And we were nowhere near THAT bad. Slaves were only taken if they crossed INTO our borders, with rare cases of cubs or lions being stolen from their homelands on purpose... And we certainly didn't move out and simply destroy prides for the sake of it..." What had those days been like, those bygone years before the Great Plague had hit?

The sudden shift in conversation was surprising, but no unwelcome. She'd given enough thought to her family for now. Not that this thought line would prove to be any more calming for her.
"I know next to nothing about the whole thing, actually. Up until the ambush, I just didn't pay much attention, too focused on putting in extra hunting time to feed the pride. I also... tend to avoid thinking or talking about what it was like in the 'old days'. My family is known for its long bloodline and which side of the conflict they supported." She glanced at Shula for a moment, stretching her forelegs and spreading her toes.
"As far as I'm concerned... that past is in the past and I have more important things in my future to worry about. Hopefully my recovery will be quick. I plan on spending more time in training now... polishing the skills that have apparently been lacking."

The red lioness shrugged, pulling her good paw closer to herself. "I suppose... But it IS good to remember the past... We don't want to repeat the mistakes our ancestors made, after all." She let out a light sigh, smiling. "It IS very good to hear you plan on training more. Every hunter and huntress should train, I think... And I'm not just saying that because I'm a soldier!" She tried to bite back a laugh, succeeding beyond a large smile. Far be it from her to think they didn't have enough soldiers! Some of her children were soldiers, something that brought her pride. Eventually, though, she hoped one would one day become a Tracker like Kosuke.

Morag smiled a little, feeling a little bolstered by this conversation with Shula. She had never known her all that well, but then, she didn't feel like she knew much of anyone all that well... but this helped a lot with helping her open up to the possibility that others in the pride might be worth knowing. And maybe she could survive her family without dying of embarrassment after all.
"I will be out there as soon as I'm able to be, wounded face or not." She said finally, stretching a bit to feel her spine loosen up and her muscles relax. The forced inactivity while she healed would be hard, considering she was used to being up and about all the time, pushing body as she hunted down the game the pride needed to survive. Some time to relax would be okay, but she hoped her convalescence would be relatively short.

"Mmm..." Shula looked beyond the entry way to the wards, ears shifting back just a bit. She missed training already... She only had a small comfort in the fact that her wounds weren't nearly as bad as what many others had received. Yes, she'd gotten bite wounds to her paw, but thankfully they weren't too terribly deep. She'd gotten off easy, and she planned on not wasting her time. As soon as she could get back to work, she was going to do so. She rolled slightly onto her back, stretching out, then opted to stay that way. She could use a nap right now... It was about all they COULD do at the present moment, something she wasn't fond of since it meant she felt lazy. But if she had to... She closed her eyes, ready to sleep.
