Reading - It would be a far cry from an understatement to call this girl a bibliophile. She'd gladly admit to it too, especially since it is likely she was not paying attention to the majority of syllables dropping from your mouth until then. How happy she would be to seize you by the sleeve and drag you to the nearest bookshelf, to run her hands along the ripple of cracked and unbroken spines alike, as if each tome were a vertebrae of her own, a joint of bone torn from her body and misplaced in a vessel of paper and ink. The press of paper, new and old, rough and thin, against her skin, she relishes the slight bump of raised letters hitting the ridges of her sensitive fingertips, the sounds of each word hidden in careful font type. None of this compares to the expression that crosses her face when she settles down with a stack of fondly chosen novels, the blissful anticipation that sparkles to life in her dreamy gaze. When a narrative captures her, she goes utterly silent, her movements still and only then does the stir of her breath and the rustle of pages break the fragile image of an enraptured lover, set ever in the moment of fascination. A social worker might explain to you that it is escapism, that she seeks haven and solace from reality in the worlds buried within her own imagination. In accordance, her favorite books are typically filled with intricate world building, engaging characters, moving storylines, or any combination of the above.
Food - A love borne of necessity, there is no denying that she first dedicated herself to learning how to cook for the sake of making life easier. Now, she takes a quiet pride in her ability to prepare meals and feed herself, enjoying the process of bringing ingredients together into something new and delicious. It doesn't hurt that for someone as enamored with food as she is that cooking comes easily to her, so both the process and the results are precious. There are few recipes she holds as special and has sentimental value.
Leisure Walks - With the invention of GPS, she happily takes leisure walks whenever she pleases, wandering around the city and exploring the nooks and crannies. It is a game she plays with herself, the adventure, the unknown - taking strange faces and making up stories about them in her head. Usually walking around with an audiobook playing in her headphones, she carries a small notebook and at least one novel in her bag at all times. Upon sighting a reading spot that intrigues her, she'll nest there for ages, just reading her book and stopping every now and then to jot down her thoughts in her notebook. The change of pace, a refreshing and new scenery, all helps keep her heart light and feeds her mind unfamiliar images to occupy itself with. Nor is she a helpless lamb to be picked on, for she is skilled at aikido and would not be easily taken down by a thief or otherwise. After her mother's death years and years ago during a battle between the Negaverse and the Senshi, Jade took it upon herself to learn the self defensive art.
Virtues:
Passionate -- What is she passionate about then? Well, the obvious answers are plain; more interestingly is her devotion and continued empathy with her foster home that she still visits, to this day, to read with and babysit the the little ones. She feels an abiding connection to those who took her in with kindness and sincerity. Her sense of gratitude to the families that means her good intentions falters not. To the ones that continued to take in foster children, she lends a helping hand whenever she can, dropping by on the weekends to make breakfast or simply reaching out to the new foster members. Jade is fiercely protective of what good things seem to remain in a senseless world and her foster home is proof of that. In a place were something like magical soldiers and Negaverse armies clash, what are powerless, normal humans like her to do?
Grounded -- For all her nearly fanatic love for books and reading, at her core she is practical. She knows what she wants in her life and does not want to be distracted from it if it can be helped. With the nonstop drama and news she sees about the terrorists wrecking havoc and whatnot - she sincerely could not avoid it anymore if she tried. It is often remarked upon that Jade keeps the coolest head of all - unaffected by the latest report on what happened where with such and such youma. After all, her goal is to live a peaceful life she can be content with, to find someone that she can see herself spending her days with, if not love. Just to have companionship and the chance to create a family is her dearest wish. Steady and searching, she won't let go of her aims so easily. Jade's steadiness is not easily shaken by others.
Focused -- Jade has faith in not just her own ability to achieve her aims, but she has faith in her ideals themselves. No matter the obstacle or the setback, the sting of failure might n** at her ankles with the bite of regret, but she has done too much to move out of her old life and forge a space for her heart to find new loves. While every stumble pains her, she endeavors to rise above it. With every hurdle she stumbles over, she is even more eager to conquer it, to find the open window in the face of every closed door. What Jade wants, she is certain she will get.
Flaws:
Tunnel Vision -- The flip side to her passion and her focus, is her self centered world view. When interested or attached, she is an extremely intense entity, easily losing sight of trivial things such as sleep, deadlines, closing hours and on the occasion even forgetting to eat (unthinkable!). Most things, however, that do not directly affect or impact the issues she cares for she pays very little attention to. It leads to a certain ignorance of her social setting, as she rarely cares to keep abreast with the news and creates an unintentional callousness when she deals with the world.
Socially Graceless: -- Seven times out of ten, she can barely hold a polite conversation past the first three minutes. The pleasant greetings and rote chatter of commonplace dialogue; any more of it and she zones out, eyes taking on a distinctly glazed expression as she stares right through the other person. If you called her out on it, it would take about three repetitions for her to register the words, to which her response would be a serene and amiable assertion that she wasn't particularly interested in what you were saying. It earns her no small amount of ill will and unkind words, but she has countless universes opening at her touch, innumerable kindred with whom she finds resonance with in her books, so she tells herself that it does not bother her. Mention half a phrase that connects with books or food and suddenly she'll be a vivacious and unstoppable fount of knowledge and energy, actively (perhaps too actively!) setting a quick fire tone to the exchange.
Prideful -- Certainly some may merely write it off as self confidence, but Jade is at the age where it is a far more dangerous folly - she has unexpected, if unassuming, pride and lots of it. She is proud that she has survived her less than easy life. She is proud that she is still standing in spite of all her hardships. She is proud that she can live on to be her mother's legacy. It sows within her a strong sense of entitlement, regardless of how a meager a future she expects and demands. Jade does not deal well with failures and wouldn't be quite sure what to do if she herself were to fail at accomplishing something she has set her heart on. Small detours along the way are expected, especially when they are outside of her control, but Jade often desires to be capable of deciding the course of her own life. Any shortcoming hits her oversensitive mind as a far larger mistake than it actually is and to admit to one out loud to another stings her more than words can say.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Violet and almond shaped, she has long lashes that do not curl very much; of Chinese descent.
Hair: Dark brown - nearly black naturally, but she has taken to dying portions of it whenever it suits her fancy. Since she often forgets to maintain it, it is not uncommon to see parts of her hair retain their artificial color even when her natural color has grown out. Usually, she keeps it tied up in a careless bun or ponytail - or braided - whatever it takes to keep it out of her way! It is atypically long mostly due to her forgetting to get it cut. Upon the once in a blue moon that she does feel motivated enough to go out of her way and take time out of her day to sit her butt in a hair salon for that long, she will get it shorn into a pixie cut that barely goes past her ears in preparation against how long it will probably take for her to return for her next hair cut ! She wears a jade hairpiece - her namesake and a heirloom from her mother; it typically dangles against her forehead.
Face: A small, heart shaped shaped face with a sharp and defined chin that belies the steely firmness of her personality; a soft mouth that curves easily into laughter or excitement, she has a single mole/beauty mark in the shape of a peony right under her left eye. She is a surprisingly beautiful young lady, for one who is so unglamorous and plain hearted as herself.
Clothes: She does not dress poorly, but neither is she the sort to spend outrageously on clothes. As long as she is comfortable and the price reasonable, she does not mind going shopping, but wearing any single piece that costs more than $50 makes her itch with anxiety. She'd really rather spend money on books... Mostly, you'll see her in a large, relaxed sweater or top with a pleated skirt and stockings, or a cardigan + dress pairing, since it requires the least mixing and matching.

Hi French Vanilla! Overall Jade looks fairly consistent and solid, but just needs to have the virtues and flaws cleared up a bit more with some examples to show how they would be noticed by others in a way that would reflect either positively or negatively upon herself. In the Leisure Walks hobby it mentions that she is skilled at aikido. Please go into further information about this! Where did she learn this skill? Just how skilled is she? More information is needed on this! The Passionate virtue could use more explanation and expansion beyond just her activities in the foster home, which reads more as a hobby than a virtue. In what ways are she passionate? And in what ways does her passion reflect positively upon herself to others? It describes that she is very focused, almost to the point of her Tunnel Vision flaw below, so doesn't read all that virtuous at the moment. For the Grounded and Focused virtues, how are these traits externalized to be viewed by others? Just giving some examples of situations where the virtuous nature of these traits may become apparent would be helpful. The Tunnel Vision flaw is fairly strong flaw, but again some more examples could be used! This is touched upon in the Passionate virtue, and some of that could be moved to here - that she forgets to eat, sleep, deadlines, etc.. Just moving that into here would likely be example enough to complete this flaw, but examples of how she it affects others would be helpful as well. Prideful doesn't sound all that negative and reads as having pride in things she should have pride in. This needs further detail about why it's a negative trait. Again, examples here would be helpful! If you have any further questions, please let me know! When you've made your revisions, I will give the quest another look! Either way, quoting me is the best way to call my attention back to the thread!
