Grumbling about nothing in particular, the voice of the strange lioness could be heard faintly if one chose to listen. She swayed in her walk almost like a drunk stumbling home after a long night of boozing. In fact she looked quite mad as she walked along mumbling obsenities to no one but herself and the wind.
Her paws kicked up the dust as she went, her fire-tipped tail sweeping the ground behind her. She looked tired but determined.
"Oh for crying out loud!" Suddenly it seemed she truly had gone insane, for all her white-tipped paws left the ground, her slender body twisting mid-air as she tried to rid herself of some ghostly apparation. She landed on her feet a second later with a great thud, shaking her head to try and rid herself of the irritant.
Flies.
How she damn well hated them! Her growls and cursing grew considerably louder as it proved that her little jump had done nothing more but aggravate the annoying buzzy things.

Uumikaji was seated on a large slab of rock, chin tilted so he could watch the sky. He hadn't been at it too long, before he'd been at a wateringhole and had just decided to head back this way. After all, he'd be needing to go back into the kusini lands some day. Well, today in all truths. Or maybe tomorrow.
He took a deep breath and shut his eyes, he wasn't supposed to be thinking about that. He'd come here in order to free his mind. His tail lashed behind him and as he opened his eyes and swept the land with his angry, crimson gaze it passed by the orangey lioness. The flies didn't seem to bother him at all, actually there were only a few trying to bother him. He wasn't sure but he figured they were repulsed just how a lot of lions he met were. He was okay with that though, he didn't want nuisances like flies about all day.
He watched her with a raised brow, keeping his mouth firmly shut from any comment coming, he didn't want her bothering him, no sir!

Her latest jumps and twists had thoroughly tired her out that was for sure, and finally after giving up she continued at a rather sluggish pace, head and tail low. She was pissed off that was for sure. All she wanted to see were the rolling dunes again, not this stupid, crappy place that she despised more than anything.
The flies receded a little as she continued her walk, perhaps annoyed that she wasn't getting so frustrated at their presence. This in turn helped ease her and the muscles that had been flinching to rid themselves of the insects were allowed to relax.
It was only when she raised her head and span it around so that her good eye could take in her surroundings that she spotted him.
A lion who truly was RED!
Her heart flopped in her chest and a terrible emotion that hung somewhere between fear and excitement gripped her. A firekin, all the way out here!? She'd never have expected it, not at all! Did he know of what had befallen the pride!? He couldn't have if he was outside of the borders. Torn between her desire to turn and flee and the need to question the youngster she stood, swaying from side to side. Then finally when it was clear she had to say something she threw back her head and gave a terrific roar. It lasted only a few seconds before her jaws clamped shut over the sound and silenced it, then with quick steps she began her approach.
"What hails you child of Finar-si?"

Uumi's face tighted a little and it became curious, quizzical. Child of Finar-si? Now what did that mean... Perhaps... it was some sort of greeting from her own pride or something. He didn't even think of it being a god, or her mistaking him for someone with a parent that went by that name.
"Excuse me?" He finally said, eyes half shut and a frown lightly on his mug. He was quite pleased he was on this rock now, it gave him the height advantage and he liked that, plus this lioness didn't seem stable at all. She'd approached like she was deranged!

A frown flickered over her face as she listened to his reply, ears twitching backwards. She looked completely stumped for a moment, for who could be a Firekin and not know of the great Finar-si their wise and powerful creator? Then realisation fell upon her like a silken veil. So this was one of the youngsters she had heard about, the ones who knew nothing of tradition and the ones who had been left to rule the pride. Her heart lurched painfully for a moment but she decided not to dwell upon it.
"Why - may I ask - are you here when the pride is in such desperate need? Have you not heard of the terrors that have befallen our kin? I myself am returning there so that they do not fall into a hole they cannot climb out of."
She stepped closer, raising her head to glare at him. "Does little red lion not know of what I speak!?" There was a madness that whirled about in her eyes, as if she had spent too much time alone. She no longer knew the ways of communication and had no respect for any lion that was not a Firekin.

He tried to think over what she meant, wondering which pride she ment. As she stepped closer he almost leaned back, but he forced himself to stay put. He bared his teeth just slightly. "I can be where I like." He finally sneered out, which was true. Well lets try and figure this out again. She was orangey red, which wasn't as startling in his mind as the dark red fur he'd seen on one other firekin. Though he still didn't know much of the pride, or even it's name. He finally realized she must be speaking of the same pride.
"Little red lion?" He arched a brow, hissing. "My name is Uumikaji. Use it or go the hell away, and why should I care of our kin? They're worthless bastards." Why was he playing along like that? Ah, well Uumi was a bit bored.

Oh yes, she liked his fire! He had the attitude of her kin that was for sure, strange that he'd say such thing about his family though, for surely he had to be proud of his background? She knew she always blessed her good fortunes in being born into a pride of warriors. His rebuke's didn't annoy her really, in a way it made her more confident that she had found a member of her pride and she gave him an almost maniacal grin.
Perhaps they could return together to help heighten the strength of their dwindling numbers.
"I apologise Uumikaji." She bowed her head slightly, using a respect that she only ever held in the company of her brethren. "I am Ripuka, though I doubt you'll remember me, I left the pride a while back but I am adamant to return." She flicked her tail idly, gazing at him with her good eye.
"By your reference to our kin as...'bastards' I assume you have heard about the youngsters who have taken over rule...the ones who know nothing of tradition." Her hackles rose a little at this, annoyed that the ways of old had been neglected in one generation of lions.

Uumi made himself more comfortable, listening to her words. He knew it was very stupid to play along with something you knew nothing about, but this was entertaining. "I'm sorry, Ripuka. My memory seems to fail me often." He let his tone become a bit bored and nonchalant, trying to bid his anger a farewell. Though it would probably spring back up just as easily.
But he was very pleased she was using his full name. No one did that, even though he tried to get them to. "Besides that I don't note the leavings so much of our pride as I do the comings. Certainly some one else takes care of noting down who leaves." He raises a brow. "Yes, though I am of the same age they seem to not know their places. They will run the pride into the ground if someone doesn't stop them." His tail flicked, crimson gaze staying on the female. He wondered just how much of this bull she was actually believing, seeing as he knew nothing of the firekins.

Perhaps she believed him because she wanted to believe though deep in her heart she knew something was off. And yet the signs screamed at her. His vibrant pelt, his dark mane, his fiery personality and he held himself with dignity -- all signs leading toward him being of The Blood.
His last statement seemed to please her as a slight twisted smile spread across her face. "You speak with a wisdom that surpasses your age, we need others that think like you do Uumikaji." Her tail flicked sideways and her nose wrinkled in frustration.
"I have ignored my heritage for too long, but the time has come for me to retrace my steps to that place. My home." She had relaxed now, content that she was in the company of a genuine Firekin. It had been long since she had seen the powerful bodies of her male brethren but maybe it as her simple desire to set eyes on a familiar face that allowed her to believe. "Would you perhaps consider returning too?" She would not judge him for departing as she too had done the same.

His eyes closed slightly, leaving him just slits to view the world from. His ears were perked to capture her words, and a twisted smile of his ome flickered across his maw. "Ah, you flatter me. I am not as whise as you think." Hell, he might even keep up this game in order to recieve these compliments. But if anything he could find information out about this pride, which he's been wanting to do for a long time.
"Your return would probably be a blessing upon the young ones, they need someone who is true to the ways of our ancestors." She sickly smile didn't leave his maw, his tail gave a little flick and he fell still again. It would be hard to keep this act up for long, in truth. He would eventually slip up, pretending to be something he was not. But he has sort of done that since he was small, hasn't he? "Ah, I have stayed away because I've grown weary of being about my brothren. They have become fools, in all truths." But he avoided answering that question as best he could.

Ripuka let a purr lace her next words as she drew a little closer, her scarred face raising as she stared at him. "I see..." It seemed hat his would not be deterred, maybe he had found something out here in the rogue lands that she had not? Perhaps because her heart and mind had been tied with her pride she had not been able to see the wonders of the free roaming realm?
"Then you will not be moved?" She questioned, gazing about her, "tell me child of Finar-si, what is it you have found out here? I have wandered it for many a moon now and see nothing that would keep me there."
She sat then, tail curling about so it rested atop her forepaws, eyes full of curiosity.

He almost reeled back as she drew somewhat closer, but he forced himself to stay put. He was very jumpy in the sense of others getting too close to him. The fur on the back of his neck prickled a little at her purring words, one ear twitching.
Hmm, what had he found here? He looked around slowly. What would be a pleasable aneswer? "It is not so much what I have found out here... but what I have come to find inside our homelands. As long as those who rule there now are in power I seek not to stay there." Ah that sounded smart, he thought.
"I agree, not much in this land is worth staying for. Perhaps our true lands are the only lands worthwile... but again, only when proper order comes back to place." He was tiring of this game now, so soon. But if he gave it up she could very well flip out on him, or something.

With a snort and a shake of her head the Firekin lioness took a few paces more, pausing to gaze at him through her one good eye. He was a young and handsome lion and she was saddened by the fact that the idiot youngsters had chased out all that was left of the true blood.
"Then listen to rumour brother of fire and if word reaches your ears that new reign and new blood has been found then I hope that you will return. The Firekin are in grave need of a lion like yourself, one who is true to tradition and praises our wonderful Finar-si." Oh silly Ripuka. If only she had stopped to truly look at this male then maybe she would have seen he was not one of them.
Perhaps she was mad, or perhaps she just wanted some hope, either way her heart would believe in him even if her mind held doubts.
"You will be welcomed Uumikaji, by me if no one else." She dipped her head in a small bow and began on her trek again, pausing to yell a farewell. "May our wonderful creator Finar-si guard your pawprints and lead you to safety and one day I hope she turns your path back towards the desert."
Then with that she was back on her way. To the land of gold. To her home.

Uumi sighed, relief that she had finally left. What an odd encounter.. It had held amusement at first, but Uumi was glad it was over with. He slipped off the rock and made himself head back toward the Kusini lands, a frown on his face.
His life sucked.End
