He wasn't sure how he had managed to drag himself away from that ally, but he had. it didn't matter, really: the details were lost in a haze of confusion and pain. His body knew he needed to get out of there and, after however long it had been, he had managed to. He stumbled and dragged himself, fell over a few times, spent most of the walk powered down until he had to push himself to walk through a familiar mirror so he could find his way to the one place he knew he would be safest.

He all but fell into Lydia's room, pain tearing through him as he hit the ground and powered down almost immediately. It was dark, quiet, and he worried distantly if he had woken anyone up with his thud of a fall.

He hoped not.

Another timeless period passed over him and he lost track of himself, the pain ebbing as darkness swirled around him. He was in a state, both physically and mentally. The beating he had taken had been severe, but his confusion at why he was being so badly hurt was just as difficult for him. He had tried to be nice, knowing that he was supposed to fight the white moon senshi, but he hadn't realized they were so cruel.

She hadn't given him a chance. It hurt him just to think that they were all like that. But in the end he wanted to help them. If they could accomplish their goals, let the white moon senshi see and join their side, maybe they would be nicer. Happier?

For now, though, he couldn't ponder things too much. He just closed his eyes and took a little nap, bleeding on the carpet and promising himself distantly that he would clean it up.

There must have been something about the shared apartment of Quinn and Lydia. Some weirdness that made it a magnet for injured Dark Mirror Senshi to come toppling into through the mirrors nailed up on the backs of their bedroom doors.

Grant was the third in their court to writhe in pain in one of the girl's bedrooms.

Lydia missed the sound of impact and the pained cry that followed. She wasn't even home, least not yet. As Grant was stumbling his way to other safety of her room, Navi was finishing up the last of her quota for the week. Her mirror wraiths were full and sated, and in her own, twisted little way, she'd made the streets of Destiny City just a little safer. No one would miss the pimp she'd preyed upon that evening, or his whore. Not that they were dead, Navi didn't kill her victims, it seemed counter productive. Perhaps they'd chose another profession once they regained consciousness though.

Her task finished, Navi made her way to the nearest mirror and slipped through.

She did not expect the body on her floor just past her door, and as she stepped through the mirror and into her room her foot caught on the poor young man's side, and she pitched forward with a rather startled little scream. Barely catching herself on the edge of the bed before sinking to her knees to stare wide eyed at the figure laying prone on her carpet.

"Grant?" Her voice was quiet at first, unsure, but it grew in volume, and quickly. "Grant! Oh my God. Grant! Hey, Baby wake up." Within seconds she'd moved to his side and gathered his upper body up and into her lap. One hand pressed into the side of his head, the other uselessly petting through blonde hair. "What the ******** happened to you? Grant baby, wake up!"

Grant let out a soft sound of pain as her foot connected with his side, already bruised and damaged from the senshi's attack earlier. He was barely conscious, though, and the pain roused him enough to bring him back from the strange flow of the darkness around him. It was like being lost at sea, deep under the waves, except he lacked the sensation of drowning and could only assume he already had.

Distantly he heard her voice and his instincts kicked in.

She sounded awfully worried, and he did not like the way her voice changed as she let out a scream and then called to him. Why did she sound so upset? Was it with him? He was too dazed to realize it was because of his injuries, thinking that maybe she was upset that he had come into her room without permission.

That had been rather rude of him.

He groaned softly in reply, his head telling him he had very clearly answered her questions. His words, if they were words, came out in mumbles and on top of each other. His face was already bruised and drying blood clung to it. His eyes eventually fluttered and he looked up at her, smiling softly.

"I'm okay..." he nodded his head slowly. "I'm okay..."

The furthest thing from Navi's mind at the moment was the unannounced entry into her room. Frankly, if he'd gone stumbling through any other mirror but her's, she'd probably have been upset. He was her boyfriend after all, and being a super senshi, she felt responsible for him even beyond her personal ties to him. It wasn't her job to train him, That was Leto's task, but the Eternal had made it very clear she hadn't minded Navi stepping in to show their newest recruit the ropes.

The groan did nothing to sooth the poor teen's worries. If anything it made her worry worst, and her grip on the side of his face tightened all the more as she pulled him closer to her. He was battered and bruised, bleeding all over her carpet and now her lap, it was terrifying.

He's assurances pulled a very startled bark of laughter from her, but it disolved quickly into a worried whine as she smoothed her thumb along his brow and cheek to clean away a bit of the blood that was drying there. It didn't really help, and in the end she only managed to smear it all worst, but that didn't keep her from bending over him to press a feather light kiss to his lips. "You're not fine," she murmured, ginger curls falling around his face and shoulders as she shook her head.

"What happened to you?" Energy gathering gone wrong? Navi didn't think so. The extent of his injuries went far beyond self defense. Someone had attacked her sweet Virtus, and it looked as though they had meant to kill him.

The thought left the pale girl's blood boiling, and she had to grit her teeth to keep her voice soft as she asked her next question. "Was it the white moon?"

Grant smiled softly as she kissed his lips, smiling at her as best he could. Everything hurt, but that didn't mean he couldn't smile at least. Even if it hurt, it was worth it.

He wasn't too bad off. At the moment everything hurt because the injuries were fresh but he was no longer struggling with shock and surprise. It had been long enough for everything to settle, and bruises to form. He'd taken a few hard hits and kicks, and the senshi had not gone easy on him.

The memory made him shudder, which he didn't like.

"A senshi attacked me... she said I was evil... she said I was crazy... there was a mistake... I wasn't who she thought I was..." He shook his head slowly but even he didn't believe that one. The senshi had been so convinced, it was hard not to think the same.

She took his attitude and attempts to be nice as him being crazy, devilish. He had never been accused of something like that before.

He nodded at her question, looking up at her pathetically. He had been beaten up by a white moon senshi, and had done absolutely no damage in return. It had not been a very good show on his part.

Navi withdrew away from him enough to see that soft smile, and it brought an answering one to her own lips, though not half so light. Her's was a scared, trembling thing, even as the anger at his current state boiled in her eyes. She was a wash of battling emotions, and each and every one flicked across pale features as she looked down at him.

She slide her fingers through the pale blonde of his hair, smoothing it back from his face and taking in the silky softness. She was petting him, and it was very obviously a nervous gesture, but she didn't care. The White Moon had effectively found the dark senshi's weakness, they just didn't know it yet.

"There isn't a person alive that's further from evil then you, they didn't know what they were talking about." How could anyone mistake her sweet, kind Virtus as evil? Navi was baffled. There had definitely been some sort of mistake, but it was not one the DMC was going to be taking lightly.

Whomever had done this, they were going to pay. And dearly. It was just a matter of finding out who was responsible.

"Who did this to you?" The tip of a finger traced along the side of his face, careful of any bruises.

The look on his face was almost heartbreaking, and the emotion behind it even worst. It was not only a hard lesson learned, but no doubt a humbling experience for someone already painfully humble. They were going to have work on his self defiance, and his offensive capabilities. Firstly though, they had to get him all healed up.

Grant closed his eyes as she smoothed her hand through his hair. It was a very comforting gesture, and the only part of him that did not seem to hurt at the moment. It made him smile, it not wavering as he opened his eyes slowly to look up at her again.

Guilt settled on him, though he was trying to reassure her that he was fine. He felt bad for scaring her so much, and wished he could undo the fight with Ate. He could fight her properly, maybe, and he could have avoided this damage. It wasn't being injured that made him wonder about it, but knowing that his injuries were causing her pain.

something he just did not want to do.

So he wanted to put the fight behind him, to put the pain from his mind. To tell himself that he was okay, so he could tell her and have it be true.

"A senshi, I don't know her name... She threw trash at me..." he sat up a bit more, trying to move though it reminded him with fresh pain that he probably shouldn't be. He was going to be more purple than skin tone soon. He looked at her and sighed. "I think... it was all a big misunderstanding..."

The smile he offered up to her as she slide her fingers through her hair was enough to keep her at it, nails running gently along his scalp. It was a relief to find a part of him that wasn't battered and bruised that she could touch without him wincing. If she could bring him comfort while he was in pain, even through something so simple, she was sure as hell going to do it. It wasn't just for him though, she needed the comfort as well, the ability to touch him, to believe he was going to be okay.

Logically she knew he would be. He was hurt, and badly, but none of his wounds were life threatening. It was hard to remain logical while she looked down at his bruising skin though, and the panic that had settled into the pit of her stomach refused to be swayed.

When he tried to answer her question on who had done this to him she couldn't help but let the disbelief show on her face, if only for a split second. "Trash, you're sure?" Mentally she kicked herself, and after shaking her head she rested her hand on the top of his head with a sigh. "I'm sorry, of course you're sure. It's just.." She only knew one senshi that threw trash around, and that particular white moon warrior was supposed to be her friend. It was a little hard to swallow that Ate had beaten her boyfriend almost to death, let alone mistook him for evil and sadistic.

Her chin have a half hearted bob as he went on to explain the whole thing away as a big misunderstanding. "Yeah, I'll say.." Still, misunderstanding or not, this wasn't something Navi could just let go.

Bending, she placed a kiss on the boy's forehead. "Don't worry, I'll sort this all out." Be it through a conversation, or a physical altercation.. Really, until she had time to mull it over, Navi wasn't sure what she was going to do.

First things first though. "Can you sit up? We need to get you cleaned up and dress your wounds." Whether he honestly could or not was probably irrelevant. Because she'd asked him to, he was going to try, and she was there to help him. When she got him propped up against the side of her head she left the room to get a wet hand towel, a box of gauze, and a roll of medical tape.

Grant was feeling much better now that he was resting. Okay, so maybe it was not resting so much as it was lingering in a half state of consciousness and unconsciousness, but at least he was where he felt safe and with the person he felt the most safe.

"I can sit up," he said slowly.

He did as she asked, always. He sit up carefully, pain moving through him, but it was fading. He was going to be sporting some bruises and evidence of this encounter, but he was glad to have it done with. It was behind him, and dwelling on it would not help him now. All he could do was focus on the future, on getting better and making up for the energy he did not drain because of the encounter.

Leaning on the bed, he smiled at Navi sweetly.

"Thank you... for helping me," he would pay her back for the materials, and for the carpet cleaning. And bake her a nice cake. Those were the important things in his head now, and no thought of retaliation or revenge came to him. even the fear had faded, replaced by simpler, nicer things.

While Grant couldn't really afford to let his mind wonder towards baking cakes and repaying her kindness, Navi would let it. The young man wasn't a fighter, he didn't think like one, and throwing a fuku on him wasn't about to change that over night. He could forgot about retaliation and revenge because Navi would not. She would find Ate, and she would get to the bottom of what had happened, and one way or another this entire matter would be settled to the dark senshi's satisfaction.

While out of the room the ginger haired girl finally allowed herself to power down, fuku fading away and relieving the shorts of gauzy top she'd been wearing that day, but the blood from Grant's wounds still decorated her legs.

She returned to him moments later with a wet rag and a first aid kit, kneeling beside him with a gentle smile. "There's absolutely no need to thank me, you know I'll always be here for you." The kiss she placed on his cheek was feather light, afraid that anything more would hurt him. She didn't want to cause him anymore pain then she had too, and she knew cleaning his injuries would be unpleasant.

"Try to be as still as you can, alright?" Her eyes and voice held the apology her words did not, and the reason for it became immediately obvious when she set to work scrubbing at one of his wounds as gently as she could while still being effective. When she'd cleaned it as well as it could be she set the rag on her lap, grabbed the first aid box, and proceeded to apply neosprorin, gauze, and tape to keep it all in place. When that was finished she moved onto the next scrap or cut, then the next. All the while whispering sweetly to him, about music, about future dates, about anything she could think of to take his mind off the discomfort of having fresh wounds tampered with.

"I know, and that's why I do have to thank you," he said, not argumentatively but soft and honest. She summed it up for him, that she would always be there for him when he needed it, and how could he not always be appreciative to her, for her, because of it? Every moment, good or bad (though mostly good because he did not dwell in bad), he felt like he should be thanking her just for being her.

And being his.

He followed her orders almost too well, not moving at all and taking very little breaths to make sure his chest didn't move too much. It hurt his ribs a bit to do that, though, and he found a happier medium eventually.

Though the procedure to clean and bandage him up was stingy and painful, Grant was a good patient and he let her work without complaint or interruption. He liked the conversation and replied easily, her effort to distract him clearly working. It was hard to focus on bad things like pain when he had happier things to draw his focus. And he had always been a simple creature.

When she was finished he smiled and looked at himself, feeling stiff and sore but better in many ways. He'd need some time to heal, since he could not use his skills on himself, but that did not bother him too much.

"I'm glad we got to spend some time together," he said, looking at the silver lining of his severe beating and possible trauma, "though I hope I didn't interrupt anything... I feel more like myself now though. Thank you."

Lydia sighed at the young man, head shaking at his stubbornness, but she couldn't help but smile all the same. She could have reiterated her stand, but it would have been pointless to argue. So instead she placed a soft kiss on his temple.

She'd patched him up as good as she was able, which wasn't too bad really, and now all there was left to do was get him into bed where he could sleep off the worst of the pain and get some well needed rest.

She blinked down at him as she got to her feet, smile slipping and giving way to a small, worried frown. "You didn't interrupt anything." He was silly for even thinking that, but of course, that was Grant. Unassuming, meek, and far too nice for the world they lived in.

"I'm glad you're starting to feel better though." At least he wasn't in as much pain as she'd found him in, that was certainly a relief.

"Let's get you into bed now, alright?" She didn't wait for an answer, but of course she didn't really have to. Grant would agree with anything she suggested, he always did. It was a little scary how much faith he placed in her, but at the same time, it was one of the things that drew her to him. He took her as she was, never questioning, never doubting.

As carefully as she could she helped the young man to his feet and got him situated in her bed, tucking him in before bothering to undress and change herself. She couldn't help but watch him as she moved around the room as she got herself ready for bed. It had scared her finding him like that, more then she was willing to admit. She'd lost him once before, and came close a second time not too long ago. If anything happened to him.. She just wasn't sure she could bare it.

When she was dressed and ready she crawled into bed beside him, curling herself around as much of him as she could without disturbing his injuries. She didn't want to hurt him anymore, but she needed to touch him, and be touched. She buried her face against the side of his neck so she could draw in the lingering scent of him from the soft skin behind his ear. "I promise you, the person responsible for this will regret what they've done." It was barely a whisper, but he'd hear it unless he'd drifted off.

Grant was the kind of person who made promises and believed in them. He believed in keeping his word, but not because he had to try to do it. It was his nature, his calling. He did what he could to be honest and true simply because he did not know how to be any other way. So when he promised her, what seemed like an eternity ago, that he wouldn't leave her, he was still bent on making that a truth.

It was a difficult concept, as he was sometimes forced to leave her side, and he was only lucky to have found her again after their misadventures in the park. He, however, considered it fate and that he was just getting help in keeping his promises of protecting her and helping her, and just being there for her.

Maybe he wasn't doing the best job right now, getting himself hurt and having to run to her for help, but it would make him stronger and he would know what to do and what not to do. Trying to talk to that particular senshi, for one thing, was something he'd learned not to do.

It was all just a part of their journey together, and he would figure things out as they came up. He wasn't great at big picture kinds of things, but then, that would require worrying about the future and he was physically incapable of doing that.

Once he was in bed he nearly nodded off immediately, snoozing while she got herself ready for bed. He thanked her a few hundred times, for everything, and was smiling as he dozed. He shifted when she moved next to him, welcoming her to his embrace and holding her to him as best as he was allowed.

"You don't know," he said softly, swallowing a yawn, "they might feel bad already." Stupidly innocent once again, he missed her threat and was assuming she meant that the white moon senshi would feel guilt. He nodded off after that, though, losing track of his thoughts on the matter and just content to feel her next to him. It made all the pain fade, and reminded him of how good his world was.
