Location: TrineFinally, the investigation began to wind down as the countless tips, rumors, and potential pieces of evidence were chased down. People were becoming irritated with the constant interruptions in their lives and more than once, fights had broken out. As much good as the investigation was doing, those benefits were quickly being met and negated by the negative tension it was creating. Trine, being a surface Weyr, did have the ancient depths of other Weyrs but their mine, a half-day’s journey out into the jungle, was deep, dark, and a carried with it rumor of unrest. The Wherhandlers had noted more Felines then normal stalking their human number and the shifting of Whers around had left the mine short-handed, leaving the potential for it to be exploited. Dusty and entered via a single round opening picked into the rock of a cliff-face, it took but a few steps before darkness fell within the tunnels. Torches spat and hissed in sconces set into the walls and the main tunnel fanned into several more that snaked through the cliff in search of everything from gems to coal to firestone. The people were dirty, rough, and hardy… every one of them built for the work at hand. However, one clean face stood out among the others, her riding leathers marking her for a Rider rather than a Handler. She was talking to a hand pick as she stared at the wall, a sizeable chunk of quartz mostly buried. Investigation Week 5 Only the NPC described in this post may be interviewed. This is an ORP that will be lead by Staff - staff will be posting responses based on the posts received once or twice a day, each character can post as they want but the NPC response will not wait for all to post before answering. Feel free to ask whatever questions that your character would ask! Remember that this is an investigation about the Mystery Man who assassinated two ranking Riders and tried to kill a third. A Hint: Look for relations between rumors and things said but remember not everyone knows the truth! Think about the answers you receive!

Okay this might not have been the best of choices she'd made. Definitely not one of the smartest. But if she hadn't agreed to go check out the mine, Narisa was pretty sure Cepheith would have gone by herself and tried to fit her growingly large frame into the mine. Her one compromise was that the gold inform the others of their group that they were going to the mine and requesting they meet up with them there.
"I still don't like this." She muttered, sliding down from Cepheith's neck and eying the entrance to the mine warily.
The gold snorted, yellow-orange tinged eyes narrowing. I am sure if I tried really hard I could fit in there. She swished her tail, tilting her head to eye her bonded. I will be right here, mine. Do not venture too far.
Riiight. Easy for the big dragon to sound so confident. Hands clenched as she took a deep breath, Narisa carefully entered the mine, darkness swallowing her up after only a few steps. Her heart pounded just a little faster, a glance thrown back over her shoulder. She kept going, following the torches and feeling severely out of place with all the hardy looking miners. It was almost enough to make her turn back and wait outside, except one figure caught her eye.
"E-Excuse me!" Narisa approached what looked to be another Rider. Talking...to a hand pick? "What are you trying to do down here?" She asked curiously, figuring it was more appropriate then 'Why are you talking to an inanimate object'.

Cetalese smiled at Cepheith as she passed the Gold outside the entrance to the mines, offering a brief greeting before passing into the darkness. Halith had few qualms about Ceta going to the mines for her investigation, except that Halith herself couldn't come, much as she had been unable to accompany Ceta for most of the five weeks of interviews and searching. Grumbling briefly, Halith had settled for another afternoon with Velath while Ceta went haring off into the dark for doubtlessly exciting and dangerous adventures.
Cetalese shook her head at the memory of her dragon's reaction. In the present, she heard Narisa's voice echo back to her, and then another voice, a woman's, respond, before she rounded a corner and reached them. Her eyes moved from one person to the other, and then up to the quartz embedded in the wall.
"Do you usually come hunting gems in the mines, Greenrider?" Ceta asked, recognizing the knots on the woman's shoulder, though she didn't know her name. There were always so many among the ranks of Greenriders, it was difficult enough for all of them to know one another. "Perhaps you've heard some rumors about who the killer was that the other riders were unlikely to know? We had one person tell us it was the infamous Holdless Flynn, but others have said it was a rider."

The woman looked up at Narisa's entrance and stared for a moment when she was addressed, her head tilting slightly when Narisa voiced her question.
"Excuse me," she said briefly to the hand-pick and then turned around to smile at Narisa. "Oh, I'm just about to dig this chunk of quartz out of the rock. I like to collect pretty gems and the like, but it's easier to look for the cheap ones no one really wants." She pointed at the crystals poking from the rock wall. "Like this one. The miners are good about putting up with me when I pop in every now and again."
Her eyes moved past Narisa as another girl walked into the area. Huh! How had she known what they'd been talking about? "Often enough. It's one of my hobbies. The miners don't talk as much around me as I think they do when I'm not here, but things do echo down here." Oh. K'in looked thoughtful for a moment. Maybe that was how the girl had known. That made more sense. "Sure, I've heard some talk. Miners muttering about lots of things to do with the recent unrest between the weyrs. The killer though? Hmm... I don't think they've mentioned anything about him while I've been here."
She looked thoughtfully at her hand-pick. "Mmm… I've thought about this, though. I don't think it's someone from Malvren, or Benden. Has to be an outsider."
In the light of the glows, it seemed the woman's eyes were blue as she returned her attention to her guests. "I'm K'in, by the way. You must be our new Goldrider, Narisa, and you must be one of the other new riders, one of the Greens." She beamed and held out a hand for shaking to Narisa and then to Cetalese. "So you're two of the investigators that've been causing such an uproar! You see?" Her attention redirected to her pet hand-pick. "I told you they could be polite about their questioning. L'zet just has crabs in his pants all the time."

Cepheith rumbled softly and dipped her head in greeting at Cetalese. She still didn't like the fact she couldn't join her rider inside, but at least another was joining her now. Mine, Halith's comes.
Narisa sent a silent thank you to her dragon, giving the rider she was currently talking with most of her attention. When she pointed at the quartz, Narisa stepped closer to look at the gem in question. There really was a sizable chunk in the wall.
"Well that's good that they don't mind you coming here." She said with a smile, moving back a step and looking over her shoulder as Cetalese appeared. Narisa gave her a quick smile, turning back to the other rider. A greenrider? Not someone she knew though. Of course that wasn't a huge surprise either.
"Why do you think it's an outsider?" She asked curiously. It was strange hearing someone not jump to point fingers at Benden for once. "I mean a lot of people keep saying Benden is to blame, yet I've not really heard a good sound reason behind this." Narisa nodded, shaking the hand offered. "Aye, I'm Narisa. Pleasure to meet you, K'in. And yes, unfortunately we are." She added sheepishly.

"Mmm," K'in said noncommittally for a moment. "Well, why would you attack your own leaders? I hadn't heard the Benden or Malvren were at all unhappy with Kestril or H'trel, so if the killer was from there, what was the motive in killing their own leaders? No, it would have to have been someone from a different Weyr or maybe the Holds."
She tapped the handle of the handpick against her hand a few times. "No, definitely one of the other Weyrs. He snuck up on Abigail. To get that close means he came from between or was familiar. And since I don't think anyone from here did it, it had to be some strange rider."
She smiled at her interrogators. "I'm kind of sorry to see it's only the two of you willing to brave the mines, though I think that says good things about you. The mines are a good place to check, if you can get the miners to start talking. After all, there are always treasures and secrets in the dark!"
