Physical Description: As men come he is small although far from a tiny man. His build is not particularly muscular nor does it quite befit a Shinigami who is supposed to have years of training and his training has actually simply ended by making him look not scrawny. Yanagi has sandy blonde hair with eyes which are very dark brown but end up looking black most of the time. His robe is the standard and he has made no changes to it deciding that they would be a waste of time as he is sure he will tear them apart in some fashion by the time his missions are done and it would be easier not to have to mess around with them again.
Personality: Yanagi is a lover of plants in his spare and work time. It is contestable that Yanagi's hobbies actually take up the majority of his life as he spends any spare hours he gets tending to them. If there was one word to describe Yanagi it would be quiet. It describes him in fact pretty much spot on as he rarely if ever talks not due to being shy but due to finding little interest in most people. He works as a shinigami purely because it pays well and he needs money and resources to fund his hobby and because of this he strives to keep a good record and will always play by the rules unless his plants are put in harms' way.
In the few cases where Yanagi is forced to speak he is clearly irritable and his language although polite suggests that he would rather not be here but rather tending to a garden or something similar. He is always impatient with others even when they are actually talking about his 'hobbies' and would rather learn it from a text book.
Despite all this Yanagi is surprisingly quite daring. He will never back down from a fight he knows he has to take part in and will gladly fight enemies much larger or more powerful than himself. This is mostly because he can't bare the thought that his plants would wither however and comes out of the fact he finds the results of cowardice to be far more terrifying than getting killed.
Zanpakutou:
Zanpakutou Spirit: Given that one's Zanpakto is a manifestation of the soul it should be unsurprising that Yanagi's is a tree. Though it is a spirit it never actually says anything and does little to teach Yanagi lessons verbally but rather by subtly influencing the spiritual world around it. Though the tree appears only mere metres away running at it is an impossible task as no matter how much one runs (and one can clearly see their feet moving forward against the ground) they will never get any closer and the tree remains in one position and one position only. Regardless of this it seems possible to actually move further away.
The tree itself is a strange jet black tree that seems as though it has been set alight and charred however this is clearly not the case as grey leaves cover the tree. In terms of breed it is most alike to a yew tree and is about as large and thick.
Inner World: A clearing in the forest where the spirit stands eternally unmoving. There is a never-ending moonless night and no light shines down making the scene pitch black if it were not for a faint grey light that seems to radiate from the central tree making itself barely visible.
Sealed Form: The sword manifests itself sealed as a fairly unusual looking sword. The blade is a katana as would be expected and the hilt and guard are both an absolute black with no decoration on them. The strange thing is that if the wrap is pulled off the sword it is possible to see that the beneath is covered in small seeds which are seemingly impossible to pull out and plant. Whether or not they can actually be planted it in fact another question entirely.
(Not obtained yet) Shikai Name/Release Phrase: Consume my flesh, Tsurī o sasayaku
Shikai Description: From the zanpakto once the release command is recited hundreds of jet black roots come blasting from the hilt of the sword wrapping themselves around the arm of Yanagi and then forming into a roughly blade shaped tool, most commonly a slightly poorly shaped longsword. The sword itself has no cutting power however it uses a thin coating of reiatsu around it to make itself equal in cutting ability as well as defence as an average zanpakto would be. Therefore it can actually be used as a weapon. The roots are so tightly wrapped around the arm of Yanagi that they would have to be cut off his arm (or his entire arm cut off) to disarm him even if only temporarily. The roots slip further and further around his arm as he uses the weapon more until they start ingraining themselves into his body. This process usually takes around a minute. After this point roots will periodically burst from his back. These are covered in grey leaves and photosynthesise to create reiatsu necessary to power the coating of the blade as well as some excess to make up for any energy lost. These roots also work as extra limbs and although they co-ordinate with Yanagi's fighting they do indeed possess a will of their own and may act defensively while Yanagi is on the offense. This phase of the Shikai continues for around another minute. After this point the zanpakto starts growing incredibly rapidly and it must be deactivated before a three minute total mark it passed or else damage to Yanagi's body will be irreversible and may leave him blind or with other damaged organs.
Shikai Powers: During the first minute: Weapon Growth: The sword Yanagi uses is a organic weapon and can move freely. Although it appears to be a set length the weapon can usually extend around an extra half a metre making strikes with it that seem likely to miss perfectly capable of hitting and meaning that extra care is required when blocking attacks.
After the first minute: Photosynthesis: Yanagi photosynthesises reiatsu due to the plants coming from his back. Each plant is like a branch of a small tree with grey leaves and unlike the tree found in the spiritual world they do not give off any faint light.
Extra Appendages: Although they are simply branches they move and act like arms. They can actually curl to carry weapons and be used to cast kido which is threatening as it means Yanagi need not worry about having a hand free for kido. They can be casted from the branches so long as he recites the chant.
After two minutes: Yanagi begins to produce excess reiatsu meaning his weapon gradually gets stronger and harder hitting and in addition to this he may use the photosynthesis to cast ridiculous numbers of kido.
Exceeding three minutes: Yanagi is essentially by this point a tree. He is incapable of deactivating his zanpakto as he will die instantly. He can however in theory cast many many kido as he is producing reiatsu constantly. Whether or not much past this point he will retain a consciousness is debatable however Yanagi never exceeds fifteen minutes as he is aware of the fact that his zanpakto may make him immobile or kill him eventually.

Skills/Abilities: Yanagi is highly trained in managing plants and if he were not a Shinigami he would make an excellent gardener. He is especially talented in the Shinigami Art of Kido. In most others he is relatively average to even sub par.

Biography/History: Yanagi was born within soul society and has never lived outside of the Rukongai or the Sereitei and actually has never really had much interaction with the world of the living. He was born more or less destined to have some level of spiritual power and while not fully aware of this constantly had dreams about a forest and a tree within it that gave him a strange feeling of foreboding (which he has long since forgotten.) and started getting him interested in plants as it was like no tree he had seen before. Throughout his early years it started as a casual hobby but as he grew older he became more and more of a recluse spending hours and hours researching and caring for plants in a desperate attempt to discover exactly what he had seen. As his research furthered he became more and more captivated by the tree he had seen until finally it became his sole driving force. By this point he was looking after at least a hundred plants and had failed to notice that his parents had died long ago in an attack on their house while he had been completely ignored and has also ignored the robbery going on. Although one might be expected to feel sadness as their parents deaths Yanagi having become completely obsessed saw it as more of a nuisance that he would not be able to leech of his parents and fund his collection and retaining of his collection further.
In response to this he started looking for work and as he displayed a skill for kido and for the arts of Shinigami he applied to join the academy. It was not long before he had to pack his bags and move away to the academy. His experiences there were not much different. He merely applied himself so he could remain at the academy and eventually start earning money to pay for his collection of plants.
Just recently he has left the academy and plans to apply for a squad. Preferably one with separate rooms as he would like his plants left untouched by non professionals.
