Infernos couldn't sleep on this clear night. After learning of the powers of the other squire's in class, he felt he was behind. Some could already manifest their power, he at least knew of his, but not how to use it. Infernos sat on a long wooden pew in the front row of the chapel, resting Shroud Breaker on its handle in front of him so he could stare at the head of his weapon. He and Shroud Breaker had begun sparring together and Infernos had started to get use to wielding such a large weapon. Infernos had an advantage over the other squire's though, he could communicate with his power. Though at the present time, that advantage did not seem to help.

. o O ( So you do not know how to activate yourself?)

" I am new to this world and there are many things I do not know Infernos. This would be one of them"

. o O ( But you told me what you are, and what you can do, so how do you not know how to use your power? )

" Just as you know in your core you are a Knight, a servant of the Guardians, I know what I am, and what I am capable of."

. o O ( My apologies friend, I just do not being at a disadvantage. We can work this out, I know it.)

Infernos gave a slight yawn, the tiredness was there, but he was determined. Shaking his head to awaken himself, Infernos focused on Shroud Breaker thoughtfully.

" Rule 52: There's no rest for the wicked, that is why they lose"

. o O ( Yes I know, I will retire shortly)

A long, hard day of training, learning and studying had taken its toll on the young pink squire. She had retired to the chapel after dinner to meditate and pray for guidance and strength. She still was unsure about her role in things, because she didn't really feel all that useful. She wasn't the smartest, she wasn't the strongest, and she could hardly use her powers because she found it too hard to activate. And too pointless, really. Still, the Guardians chose her specifically, so there had to be something she didn't know yet.

She'd fallen asleep on the pew during her mediation and self reflection, unaware that someone else had entered the sacred place.

Infernos stared intently at Shroud breaker and in his mind saw the hammer activating. He mentally tried to project this image towards his weapon, but it was a futile effort. He really wished to be able to access his Guardian's gift. Having an impressive weapon was nice, but he needed to be prepared.

Giving a sigh, Infernos stood up and raised Shroud Breaker above his head with both hands. He started to give a big full body stretch. This was time he was not spending training on the grounds. Resting his weapon on his shoulder, Infernos looked over the chapel, hoping that a spark of inspiration would hit him. All of it made him want to become a knight, but nothing helped him learn how to activate Shroud Breaker.

It was then that he noticed a pink pile on one of the pews. Walking closer to inspect it, Infernos was surprised to find a pae'il asleep. He guess that she might have found comfort here, in a place close to The Guardians. He thought about leaving her there, or trying to carry her to a bed to sleep on. The pews wouldn't be comfortable after a while. Infernos reached over and held her shoulder and gently shook it.

" Hello? "

Alethea woke with with a jump at the voice in the usually quiet chapel and fell to the floor. She scurried under the pew, unsure of what disturbed her, not considering that in the chapel in Telrunya City nothing could harm her. "Who's there?"

She peeked her head out from under the pew to see her fiery classmate looking down at her with a concerned expression. She knew he was no threat, so she pulled herself out, and up off of the floor. She patted her rear and legs to dust them off a bit and looked at him.

"What are you doing here so late?" she whispered.

Infernos got a better look at his fellow squire once she stood up off the floor. He found it odd that her immediate reaction was to hide beneath the seat instead of confront her awakener. The building itself was a sanctuary was it not? Infernos masked his confusion and thought to put his companion at ease by answering her.

" I am ... troubled... as it were, by the fact I can not access the potential of my gift. So I came here to gather inspiration to aid me in this task."

He felt that explained his reasons enough for her to follow. Infernos had opted not to whisper like her though, feeling that there was no one around to disturb other than themselves. It made him ponder though as to why the other pae'il was here.

" Please explain why I found you asleep on the pew"

It was a direct statement, but Infernos found that sometimes people can take what you say and use it to avoid or manipulate the truth.

Alethea took a quick survey to see if anyone else was in the chapel with Infernos. Last thing she wanted to do was get in more trouble and be put on more restrictions. "It's past sun-down. We shouldn't be out of our rooms," she whispered, as if Infernos was unaware of the rules.

So this guy couldn't use his power either, huh? "Well, I can't use my gift yet either, but it wouldn't make much difference. I came here to seek answers and I fell asleep. What time is it?"

She sat back down on the pew, propping her arms up on the back of the pew in front of her. She just started at the altar in front of the large room. It was lit up with candles surrounding a small silver incense burner. She wondered sometimes if the Guardians really did hear their prayers, or if this was all in vain. And then she felt guilty for thinking such a thing when she was specifically chosen BY the Guardians for her faith and potential.

She bowed her head, forgetting for a moment that there was another Pae nearby, and sniffled a little as her thoughts saddened her. I'm being punished for my weak faith.

Infernos looked towards a near-by window, noticing the lack of light outside. He knew all too well that it was late and he should be back in his room, resting up for training the next day. The trouble was with classes and training, he hadn't the spare time to work on his issue.

Infernos turned back to look down at the one winged squire as she mentioned her similar problem to his. So he was not the only one? Perhaps while he tried to work on his issue, he might inspire her too. Infernos' mind was busy thinking and almost forgot to answer the question presented to him.

" I am unsure of the exact time, but yes it is late enough that we should be in our rooms. I how ever decided to take this moment to work on my ability instead during this time so i can continue my studies without distraction. I am prepared to accept any punishment for my actions."

"Infernos..."

. o O ( What is it?)

" Can you not see she is upset?"

. o O ( Upset?...)

Infernos hadn't seen anyone like this in a long time, and while he had some vague memories as a child, crying, he was not accustomed to dealing with someone being upset. Infernos was not clear on ways to cheer someone up, but he knew what kept him from ever feeling like this. Kneeling don on one knee, Infernos lowered himself in attempt to see her face as he spoke.

" You do not need to feel this way. You are alive, you are a squire, you have a home, food and companions. The Guardians have chosen you, for you are strong in their eyes. To have faith in them is to have faith in yourself. Do not worry if you can not use your ability, for it is only an obstacle. Rule 21: Mountains are made to be conquered. Sometimes it will appear as if a task is impossible to do because of an obstacle in your path. How do you not know the Guardians did not place it there for you to grow stronger from it?"

Alethea sniffled again, and used the back of her hand to wipe the runaway tears that had escaped her attempts to stifle them. Is this guy for real? She looked at him with a c**k-eyed expression and shook her head. She almost lashed out at him that he doesn't know what he's talking about. But she knew there were in the chapel, where the Guardians can hear them best, so she refrained from acting out. Besides, Infernos didn't do anything wrong. He was trying to help. Even if he's clueless about it.

She dared not correct him, either. She figured it would be easier to let him believe she was upset over not being able to use her power, like he was. She scooted a little bit away, and looked at him with a curious glare. "Rule 21? What's rule 22 if mountains are made to be conquered?" she whispered, trying to not sound as snarky as it felt like it did. She didn't mean to sound like a smartass, but it was a natural reaction to feeling so exposed.

"And I guess. We're all here for a reason. I just need to find mine." She lowered her gaze, now unable to look him in the eye for fear he might be able to see her soul and thoughts and then he'd know how weak her faith really was. "How do stay so strong?" she asked meekly, barely over a whisper.

Infernos saw he had not got through to his fellow squire yet. To him is was hard to understand why she was acting like this, like she was with out hope. Pushing himself up until he was standing, Infernos turned around and sat in the seat beside the pink pae'il, looking towards the head of the chapel, tapping his fingers on his maul. He was thinking about what to say next, but for now he answered her question of rule twenty-two.

" Rule 22: Don't forget your victories. You will have failures in life. It is important to look at the positives from them, even if they are few or small."

The rules he had memorized over and over again. Some of them important teachings from his mentor. He'd never seen anyone of his peers take them to heart as he did, but perhaps one of them might offer the advice they needed.

Infernos glanced over to the girl beside him. It was not like a squire to act like this... right? He was about to ask her reason for being in the chapel, when she asked him another question. How does he stay so strong? Infernos almost didn't hear the girl, he wished she'd speak up, it was not as though there was anyone around to disturb.

" I am strong because I am needed to be. I am strong because the Guardian's wish me to be. I am strong for my fellow squires."

With that Infernos reached over while looking at the front of the chapel to take her hand in his, as if he hoped his faith as well as his words, would flow into her.

" I am strong for those that can not be strong for themselves. I am strong because that is what a Holy Knight is. I have been told before that my faith can make me blind, but as I see it.."

"Within the Light, I see everything"
"Within the Light, I see everything"

Infernos was surprised that Shroud Breaker spoke the very same words he spoke as he said them. It had never done that before. But the bigger surprise came as the maul began to glow, brighter and brighter. The light surrounding the pair of pae'il.

Alethea felt foolish for exposing her vulnerabilities to Infernos. While he was a peer and comrade, they still had to compete somehow. It was clear not all squires would become knights. She thought while Infernos spoke, not hearing half of his words.

If she let her doubts consume her like this, she'd never become a Knight. The Guardians needed someone faithful, not a sniveling little whiny girl who felt sorry for herself. If she wanted to become a knight, along side Eligor who a shoe-in for it, she was certain, she had to be strong and faithful. "I am strong for my fellow squires." Infernos' words rang in her mind. It wasn't just a coincidence that she's zoned out listening to him, only to pay attention at the exact moment he said that. The Guardians sent him to help her and she knew it.

What happened next caught her completely off guard. When the bright light enshrouded the pair, she moved to cling to Infernos, scared of what the weapon was going to do. Maybe the Guardians are Knighting us? No, that's stupid. Training isn't over yet.

"Infernos, what's happening!?"

With wide eyes, Infernos stared at Shroud Breaker as he held it up in his hand. The light wasn't blinding at all, even as bright as it was. His heart raced as if to express how he felt, that he wouldn't show to others. It was glorious, it felt like the Guardians themselves were moving through him. Infernos held onto the girl beside him in the chance she could feel it too.

" It happened.... Shroud Breaker... it is the gift given to me by the Guardians. I do not understand how this happened, but this is its light. Before it only the truth will shine through."

It was hard to not be in awe of the moment, but Infernos tried to maintain himself. He gazed around the room, and how it glowed. He could bring the Light to others, shine it upon the good and wicked. It made him feel as if he was already a knight.

" Well done my friend"
